  • Yup, same inner thighs here
Also feeling pudgy lately. Like you said slip, I prefer this pudgy though to the overweight.
This is my last week of insanity with my schedule, then in August I'm looking forward to catching a break, having my pulled muscles healed (they're almost there), and spending some time in a more relaxing mode - get some swimming and sun and running in.... let my cortisol chill out some, let the water retention ease up, and be back in my more comfortable weight zone. I'm not able to get into my tightest clothes and feel comfortable because of the muffin - I'm not freaking out about it but want to have a change next month.
  • Hi ladies,

thigh droopage - I have that as well!

Have fun at the cottage, weather has been great and spending lots of time lying around and reading. I have barely exercised - I think it's good to rest my body. Got on the scale here and I'm up quite a few. Trying to add some balance and having lots of veggies but the ice cream cones are my weakness. Heading home tomorrow and back on plan.
  • Sounds like you had a nice vacation, Jenny.

Still struggling with up pounds from vacation. I was doing moderate low carb, lower calorie intake, and dropped down 4 of the 5 I had put on. Went out the next day for dinner and maybe had too much fun...was back up again to where I started, but this feels different. Have had really uncomfortable bloat, and weird stomach pangs that feel more like muscle soreness than upset stomach. No fever, but alternating between periods of sweating through my shirt and then being cold enough to pull on a blanket. Of course I spent all night on web md convincing myself I had all kinds of ailments. Maybe I just ate something bad? I also have been drinking a lot of the EAS shakes and having a quest bar a day...maybe it's a soy sensitivity.

Hoping this stuff goes away, going to the beach again this weekend and don't want to be feeling sick.
  • Quote: Shasta nice to hear from you I was just thinking about you the other day.

Happy Monday to all, hope it goes well.

I had an average week, still kind of getting my foundation about what works and doesn't, but did OK. I haven't been able to exercise due to a pulled muscle in both legs - ugh - and I am seeing in Maintenance that exercise is a much bigger factor than when on VLCal P1. Even when eating less due to no exercise, it looks like my metabolism starts to dive after about 4 days of no exercise.... curious if that has happened for others.... eating about the same thing but it's causing a little gain on the scale where before it was a little loss.
I can testify to the inner thigh "wiggles" that makes me go no shorter than 4 inches. Even my favorite swim attire is shorts because no amount of diet or exercise is going to get rid of that loose skin, I think.

I have found that this 4-day dive is about the same for me. I have gotten into a groove whereby I do 30-Day Shred every other day and try to work in some treadmill time (walk/run) on the opposite days. If I've been sitting too long, I get "stove up" (to quote my dear, departed grandmother) and I really *need to be moving more now. But 4 days is definitely the outer limits for what I can tolerate, calorie wise and just in general.
  • Thank you Marci it helped me to read that. Within a week I should be able to be back on my normal exercise routine so I'm looking forward to that.

Hi pishposh, Jenny, Liana, Andrea, and everyone. Hope all are well.

Had a funny thing happen that I wrote about in another thread just now - someone made a comment to me to the effect that I was on the large side.... I am surprised how much that one comment threw me for a few days - I went into some really old mindset subconsciously and started borderline starving myself and then yesterday ate more than usual - a typical pattern. I caught it this morning, but it's almost like it made me go unconscious. I had to remember this morning that the only control I have over other peoples' nonsense is control of my own thoughts. So that was helpful.
  • So trying not to be too upset, but am having a heck of a time with my scale this past week. I gained 15lbs in five days! Now logically I know that most of this must be water weight, but seeing that jump on the scale (which also catapulted me right over my alarm weight and back into the overweight category) brought me close to tears on Saturday.

I have a few things I keep trying to tell myself may be attributing to the very sudden weight gain.

    1. It has been very hot and humid here (the heat broke a day or two ago so hoping to see some downward movement on the scale)

    2. I increased my exercise so may have some swelling due to muscle building

    3. Hormone fluctuations (yay for being female!)

    4. Had more carbs than usual (although calories were still around 1,500-1,800 per day, so no way I ate enough to gain 15lbs worth. Salt intake was also normal)

Has anyone else experienced such a dramatic weight gain all at once? It's so bad that all my lovely new cloths no longer fit! As in I couldn't even get one of my pairs of pants on this morning!!!

I am back to a strict P1 for the next few days and have been drinking water like crazy to see if that helps at all. Keeping my fingers crossed I wake up one morning this week and am magically back down to where I was before.

Anything else I can try to shed this (hopefully!!!) water weight sooner? I'm supposed to be heading out on vacation in a few weeks and am absolutely gutted that the body I worked so hard to achieve over the last year is returning to its original 'fat state' in such a short period of time. And I had been maintaining so well (always stayed within 2lbs of goal weight for the past six weeks).
  • Hello Maintainers!

I completed a very intense strength/toning/free weight class at my gym yesterday. Most of the class was half my age. But I finished! I wasn't able to do all the moves that the 2% body fat instructor did, like squats, lunges, running, burpees, but when she did something I couldn't, I just walked in place. I went with 2 younger co-workers and they were struggling as well. It was NOT a beginner class. I didn't feel bad about what I couldn't do, I felt fantastic about what I could do. Of course I went home, iced my knee and took a 20 minute Epsom salts bath. I'm able to move today. My coworkers are not faring as well. But scale was up 2.6 lbs from inflammation. And there are another 2 that have showed up. So I'm almost 5 above my happy place. Sigh. Otherwise things are going well. I have 2 weeks before my NY trip, so will cut back carbs/calories a bit so there won't be so much to deal with when I get back. I'm sure I'll have to do P1 for a couple of weeks.

Liana: Thigh droopage! That's funny. Have it. Don't want to talk about it. But trying to get past the idea that other people are looking at it. I'm almost to the point that I don't care. But I still won't be wearing a pair of Daisy Dukes!

Grateful: Sorry someone felt they could comment on your size and it affected you the way it did. But good for you for recognizing what you were doing and self correcting.

Pish: Sorry you're feeling bad. Hope you feel better soon.

Jenny: Vacation at a cottage in the woods with ice cream sounds heavenly. Enjoy!

Lex: I would be alarmed at that large of an increase as well. Sounds like you have pinpointed what is going on. I would lower carbs for a while and drink lots of water. Something has triggered the sudden increase and as long as you are eating the same amount of calories, I would be looking at hormones and inflammation from the exercise. Take a deep breath and carry on.

Lex, for sure this is something to keep an eye on. It's can't be fat of course, you can't put that much on that fast.
I did have something similar happen a few months ago, and it did scare me also. I think it was a combination similar to what you describe above - there was muscle inflammation from added workouts (I have quite a bit of muscle so I can gain even 6 lbs. from that), and then hormone issues causing water retention (I had to add progesterone). I also had a varied diet that weekend (my carb and calories were fine but I had a lot of restaurant food which always has hidden salt, sugar etc. that causes water retention). I did go back down about 1lb a day until I was down 5lbs, but I still haven't gotten the other 10lbs all the way off - I think some of it is still from muscle growth, and the rest I can tell by how my rings fit is water retention. I am vacillating up and down within the 10 lbs depending on the TOM and how much exercise I am getting.

I did talk to my coach and doctor, and they told me that in addition to the hormone issue, also my body was reacting blood sugar swings and also to higher glycemic food like fruit, so I had to cut all of that back and eat smaller amounts of higher protein foods and bars every few hours, and not eat big meals. That seems to have helped some also.
  • My coach just sent me a .pdf of the new P4 sheet from IP. I attached it here. Not really that interesting but probably a few good tools.

  • Amber, the other person's comment is ridiculous and reflects their own issues. But, it is such a struggle to shut off other people's criticism. We all have such different bodies. At 160, tons of people told me that I was too thin. I think part of this journey is figuring out where we feel comfortable in our own bodies.

Andrea, way to go with the exercise class!

Pishposh, hope you feel better soon.

Lex, you are doing what you need to do. I agree, push the water.
  • You ladies are all so amazing and so fit! I feel like I'm reading a fitness thread when I read how many workouts and the intensity of the workouts- so impressed and inspired.

Lex - hang in there it will go down and I agree with all the comments push the water and consider the the mix of foods or hidden salt. You'll get it off in time for your NYC trip

Amber - what's a crappy thing for someone to say. Glad you were able to get back on track and remembering that you are happy with you.

Pishposh - hope you're feeling better!

I'm struggling to keep to my plan, not sure if it's inner brat or what. But I did make my own cauliflower rice and WOW was it yummy. I can't believ I did a whole year of phase 1 without doing this. I added celery onion and garlic with some salsa (lower sugar than pasta sauce) and some green seasoning I found that had a kick to it, sugar free and 10 calories a tbs. I also bought PB2 - which is 85% less fat than peanut butter - it's ground up nuts and you just add water and mix. They have PB2 with coco and it's even better. I have to give up almond butter - eating too much. Anyway I have my zucchini muffins cauliflower rice for lunch all prepared for tomorrow.

I noticed that a few of the coaching pages in this new P4 were very similar to the coaching pages that I received every week during P1-3. Not sure if other clinics did this but there was always a separate page to take home from a weigh in with information on it on how to plan resisting temptation, what to do when quitting smoking (I never needed that one since I've never smoked, but I saw other's sheets), making a 5 yr plan, listing your inspirations etc.

Just a thought, Lex.... did you eat anything different from your norm, or just too many carbs, ie: a different kind of carb, just thinking about gluten in my case. My waist balloons by 8 inches and I get very swollen fingers and ankles and sore joints, for instance. I can easily gain 8 lbs overnight from that and add quickly to it if the gluten doesn't clear out of my system fast. I hope you are feeling better and drop the extra soon for your own peace of mind .
I am up a few (over my scream weight by 3 lbs) after a BC Day long weekend that involved road food, long visits to the hospital with MIL, too much Grand Marnier (breakfast coffee anyone?), and not enough sleep. Oh yeah, and my fill of great Indian food in Surrey/Delta. You can't have Indian food without thick flavourful sauces involving ghee and lots of rice pulau to soak it up. And poppadums since I can't have naan.
DH lost his wallet while we were there, so we quickly retraced our steps for the day & previous evening, and not finding it, had to call the credit card companies to cancel & reissue, and make a police report. Stressful to say the least... until he found that it had gotten knocked into that little space between a tall dresser & the night stand in the bedroom at his mom's house. AAAARGH! So then the embarrassment of calling the police to amend the report and attach a note that it was safely found, but too late to do anything about the cards. His new ones should be here in about a week or so. That night we celebrated with chocolate milk mixed with coconut milk and Grand Marnier. Total slide this past month.

I MUST get back on track.
Going to try to get to Aquacise tomorrow before I forget how to do it, lol.

General hello & hugs to all out there!
    Liana
  • Thanks for all the advice and words of encouragement - I knew I could count on you all to help ease that panicked feeling! I lost three lbs overnight and would be over the moon if that trend continued for another couple of days. Then I'd be feeling much better about things.

canadjineh, I did actually add a new food, Hemp Hearts, so it's possible I have a sensitivity to them. Once my weight has stabilized, I'll try adding it in one day and see if I get another spike. If so, then it's off the list!
  • Oh wait - I also had sushi for the first time during that five days (not my thing that's for sure). Just remembered I left the restaurant feeling very icky, so maybe something in one of the many things there I tried didn't agree with me either.
  • Lex, there is sugar in sushi so maybe you had a reaction to it after not having it for so long.

Also, it took about 3 months for all of my digestive enyzymes to "repopulate" so I was especially sensitive to almost every food I re-introduced until it sorted itself out. I found a really good probiotic and that helped. Now my body seems to be able to handle small amount of almost anything - I haven't done gluten yet for the most part (little bites when out to dinner of someone else's food) and very little sugar or alcohol, thought when I do eat/drink small amounts of those things, I seems to be fine. I few up lbs the next day but once they're out of my system the water retention/inflammation goes back down.

For me also, if I'm low in magnesium, I get a lot of inflammation.
