This sounds nice, too! (I'm not opposed to the other ideas, either, but I'm on a budget and have foot arthritis that makes me not much for dance. Also, I like being outside. )

I live 2-2.5 hours south of DC, depending how I approach it. So an early afternoon hike would be preferable to a morning or evening hike, for me. Then again, if I can't make it this time, there's nothing to prevent it from happening again, anyway.

Some of us are in Maryland, and some in Virginia, so I am trying to pick a place that might be close to the middle ground...
Thanks for the reply! So sorry about the foot arthritis - that has to be painful! But is sounds like walking is ok for you?

Maybe an outing to Fredricksburg to meet up with you would be fun for some of us - there is an interesting historic area as I recall, that might be a good place to walk... I'd have to do a bit of research cause I have not been to Fredricksburg for many years. But it would kinda halfway between DC and Richmond.... I am guessing you are somewhere in that vicinity? or is there another halfway point that would be good for you? Lemme know - putting in 5 hrs of driving, round trip, is a pretty much for a day trip!

Yeah, I'm along the 64 corridor. I can take 29 or 95, depending where we're headed.

I haven't been to Fredricksburg in a long time! I'd be up for that. Really, I'm OK with whatever; I definitely want to see the cherry blossoms in bloom, if DC is easiest for others! But I'll go along with whatever, as long as it isn't too far out of my price range (I'm waiting to hear from two jobs!) and I don't have to actually *drive* in DC.

Walking is fine; I just have a slightly limited range/time on my feet. (I did a 2.5 mile walk not long ago, with no significant foot pain. I feel like I could go further.)

Default I need your reply!

Hey there, DC area IPeeps -- Sorry to have been absent for so long - lot's of stuff happening lately with work and home and I have not been able to pitch and organize the get together we talked about.

I have 2 items that I hope you will reply here about:

1. I have a co worker who lives in Alexandria, VA and wants to sign up for IP at a clinic with good coaches -- can anyone recommend a location, if possible, a specific coach who does a good job and earns the money we pay for IP?
Please give me a recommendation for my friend/co-worker!

2. The weather has improved -- let's talk about connecting up for a walk soon.
How about Sunday, May 17?
Indicate if you could go that day, meeting up around 2pm.
Choose a location:
  • Glen Echo, where we could meet up and then go down onto the towpath along the Canal to walk
  • The mall or Tidal Basin, downtown (use the Smithsonian metro stop for meet up?)
  • Other location, pls specify:

Let's do this!!

Hi sorry I have been out of the loop as well. I have been having some gallbladder and shoulder issues but I am ok. I have been doing a lot of tests and PT.

I live in Alexandria...I can tell your friend where NOT to go. Do not go to Dr O'Brien's office on Kenmore Ave--he is a GREAT cardiologist but they started about a year ago doing IP and IP is not their priority so I cant recommend them. I used them the first time around for almost a year. The staff is very nice it is just they are busy being a dr's office first.

Also in Old Town some of my friends went to Alternative Health. They are nice but they are also a spa so it is very busy there. I had 2 friends go there and there was no support.

I am on IP for the 2nd time and I actually go out to Tysons Corner even though it is farther away. I had a friend transfer over there before me. They are very nice and ONLY do IP. They also have offices in DC and Ashburn. I like my coach Lori who was on the program as well. There are other coaches there too.

I hope this helps. If you friend goes tell them Jennie B recommend it to them.

Very IP friendly restaurant: Citizen Burger in Clarendon - a block from the Clarendon Metro on Washington St I believe. Local sources angus beef (from Charlottesville) - organic, etc. vegan choices as well. And VERY accommodating - had a delicious 8oz burger with lettuce wrap and a small side salad - also reasonable. $20 (with an iced tea)

hysteria 625--thanks for the tip on the burger place. FYI I went to a burger place once and before I went I looked at their nutritional info and the turkey burger was WORSE then the beef burger. I was shocked.

I went to Ruby Tuesdays today for the salad bar. It works out good when I am out or don't have veggies.

I'm pretty swamped for the rest of May. I'm free a couple Saturdays in June if people are free around then!

I go to Ideal Body Wellness as well in the Palisades/DC. My coach is Alina, and I like her.

My friend at work who used a coach went through Virginia Heart - she said they have offices in Fairfax and Arlington and were very good.

I'm at this clinic and go to the one in DC (Palisades). I live in Arlington and it's about 15 minute drive for me on the weekend. My coach left but she was replaed by Lynn. I liked her and she really supported me when I was considering phasing off or not (I phased off a little early)

Thanks a bunch for all the clinic recommendations - I just returned from my wedding trip to California, and have gathered your recommendations together to share with my friend at work.

Looks like there are no takers for a get together for a walk in May -- shall we try for a June date?

I'll start a new thread that's just about a June walk-about and see if we can get a little group together. I hope we can!

By the way, I am always looking for friends to take along to the dance studio - there is a guest party just for beginners once a month -- lemme know if you think you might be interested - the next one is May 17, 2:00 - 3:30pm. And it is free!

If you already dance, I am always looking for friends to go to the regular weekly dance parties on Wed nite at 8pm or Friday nite at 8pm. Lot's of fun and good exercise!
