OMG today was so hard. I am starting again and today was the 2nd official day on this diet and man was it hard after months and months of decadence not giving a damn about my figure and watching my body change into disproportionate shapes. Having to say no to a bite of chocolate so that I get into ketosis saying no to that extra cup of coffee and just staying on plan. OMG i was starving by 2:00 p.m. I can't wait till this gets easier and my withdrawals stop.

Sorry for the MIA the last 5 days! I was really battling some negative energy and didn't want to burden.

My box of alternatives arrived last Friday! I really like the Protidiet Pancakes. Very good with WF syrup :-) I discovered Quest bars and oh my delicious! I will definitely be getting more of those!

Sunday and Monday we're rough days. I was really dizzy and fatigued Sunday and have no idea why :-( Then yesterday I had my first weigh in. I lost 7.4 lbs the first week. I'm sure that's great, but it's less than the 10lbs I lost the first time around.

Does anyone have a hard time eating the lean protein for the actual meal we get? If so, what do you suggest? I can't eat red meat as it makes me sick. The turkey burgers I made last night were so awful I couldn't even choke all of it down. I ate SO much chicken the first time around, I don't find it appetizing any more :-( What suggestions do you ladies have????? For a short term fix, I've decided to have my daily meal at breakfast and have eggs, but I'd love any advice, tips and/or tricks that work for you.

Thank you for listening :-)

Hi! If you like seafood then there are lots of options. I made a stir fry with red peppers, broccoli, soy sauce and shrimp for dinner the other day and it was great. And, I could eat 17 shrimp so felt like a lot! Depends on the size of the shrimp though so be careful. Tilapia is a great fish that is easy, quick to cook and pretty much takes on any flavor profile. We had some last night with dill, tarragon, salt, lemon pepper and lemon juice. The herbs make such a difference. Also, pork loin-"the other white meat" =) It's not chicken right?!

Evening all. Hope everyone is having a great day on IP! I had my first weigh in last Friday and was down 2.3 in a little less than a week. Have to admit I was sort of hoping for a little more after hearing so much about 3-5 pounds a week and in the past (on other programs) I usually lose a lot (probably water) the first week. Oh well.

Didn't get discouraged because it's still a loss and every BODY is different. Luckily I haven't found IP to be too, too bad. Don't get me wrong, I still daydream about certain things but then I replace that daydream with the dream of looking good in the clothing of my choice =) Definitely noticed the hunger the first couple of days but seemed to get better by Day 3.

Enjoying figuring out what I like (hello cappuccino drink blended with crushed ice) and dislike (really maple oatmeal? you let me down). Have been experimenting a bit (figured I would focus on routine first then experiment more) and, for me, I've found a lot of the drinks are more palatable when blended with crushed ice (that thick "mango" drink actually becomes almost like a mango smoothie..almost). I love, love my Ninja blender. Was a bit skeptical...would it really be better than a Cuisinart? or Kitchen Aid? but yup, it's awesome! Highly recommend it. Bought it with a coupon at Costco so it wasn't too expensive and comes with two portable, blender containers so you can blend in one container, replace the cover and off you go.

So, looking forward to weigh in #2. Thanks for listening and I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow! If you're struggling, just remind yourself about why you're doing this..and drink some water! =)

I found that blending the Mango Smoothie, with 2 cups Spinach or Kale and a bit of cucumber is very delicious, thought I'd mention it to you :o I add ice as well!!

OH YES!! I totally did that. It makes a HUGE smoothie and soo good :) I'm really missing the mango drink, that was my favorite! I remember having one last year as my pre-wedding ceremony breakfast!

Week One Down

My first week weigh in and I am down 4.6 WooHoo!
My micro-mini goal is to be down 8-10 before my surgery on Monday, I am hoping to have a good week. I need to get all of my water in which I know makes a difference. Not as large of a lost as some, but I will take it.
I ate pretty clean before I started IP, just could not get the scale to move. Now it is moving in the right direction. :carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot:

oma lurline 04-01-2015 11:09 AM

Keep on keeping on. I am enjoying the turkey burgers (frozen Jenny-O) on the grill and then wrapped in iceberg lettuce leaves in place of a bun. With a little mustard and a couple of dill pickle slices, it works as a hamburger for me and I found it to be very tasty.
Fish like tilapia is quick and great with just lemon slices put on them and then poached in a skillet on the stove. You can hardly get faster food other than the IP prepared chocolate pudding! (Which wouldn't really fill me up)
Good luck. I was in a funk all last week thinking that this was not working and that I was stuck. Fortunately at WI. all that bad thinking was dispelled.

I use Jenny-O ground turkey for my burgers, with pickles and brown mustard, and I LOVE them. With a side of zucchini with a bit of onion salt... Mmmmmm...

Yup, that's going to be my dinner tonight. :D

princessM928 04-01-2015 01:29 PM

:-( First weight in and no change so I was right, I'm doing something wrong. I rather just go back to the first IP that I did instead of trying to do this newer updated one. I need some help, anyone willing to assist?

canadjineh 04-01-2015 03:01 PM

Princess: It's only one week... just keep up with the plan. Don't game it already. Make sure you are taking in ALL your water, salt, supplements & veggies. Lettuce doesn't count. Are you using lots of sugarless gum, water flavourings, or sweetener packets? You may have to look more closely at those extras. Don't forget on any given day we will be up or down depending on time of day, what's left in our colons, TOM, excess sodium the day before, etc.

A little perspective: ;) It's only been one week out of the rest of your life. Do you really want to quit it now and then what? Time to breathe... go for a walk to help get rid of the cortisol you are causing with this stress and realize that you aren't THAT much overweight, so you aren't going to lose tons at a time, but you will get to your goal weight eventually. Nothing is instant, not even the weight you put on :D.

We are here so you can vent - now you can move on to better thoughts and self talk, ok? (Drill sergeant mode officially off now :drill:.)

Thank you tuscanygirl! That stir fry sounds great! :-) I'd like to try that. You know, I always wondered about red peppers! On the sheet, it just refers to "bell peppers," so I've just been sticking to green since they don't seem as sweet. Do you find red peppers impedes your weight loss at all? Also, what kind of shrimp did you get? I'm not a huge fan of shrimp without the glorious cocktail sauce lol, but mixed with veggies and soy sauce sounds delightful. Thank you for replying :-)

canadjineh 04-01-2015 03:04 PM

Any color of peppers are fine. If you want to make an Indonesian style stirfry you can add a bit of Franks Hot Sauce (reg or chili/lime) or Tabasco and a bit of Walden Farms peanut spread with the soy sauce and a squeeze of lime juice. All allowable on P1.

Lattiuss 04-01-2015 03:06 PM

Hi Ladies,

Thank you all for your support and protein suggestions! Yesterday was my best day yet on the diet! I had an omelet with some ham for breakfast, a chicken noodle soup and celery for lunch, oatmeal and cucumbers for dinner and a quest bar for my snack. I enjoyed eating all of them, AND people were eating cake right in front of me and I wasn't even slightly tempted! I guess it just a took 8 days to get everything out of my system :-) I hope I can help you all as much as you helped me :-)

Thanks, I have my lady time so I am just misrable! I dont do any sweetners, just 3 splenda in my coffee and water all day with cucumber in it. no gum. I just can't figure it out. I weighed myself same time wearing the same thing, i was so made, i ordered nutrisystem online since with people who have Chronic lyme they tend to find it works well. I will prob return it tho. I find IP takes up a lot of my time and I dont have a lot of time to begine with, do you feel you are always planning...and I dont eat red meat so its the same boring meals over and over...

IP Questions

Hello, I am on day 3 and have some questions:

1) Is the required two cups of veggies raw or cooked?

2) Must I eat the snack or will there be adverse repercussions?

3) I am a type 2 diabetic and therefore must eat one carb supplement 3 x per day for two weeks. For those who are diabetic, how did this affect your weight loss?

4) Can a 'snack' ip product be eaten as an 'entree'. For example, could I eat the bbq crisps and two cups of veggies for lunch?'

5) Which of the IP drinks are your favorite? Some of the IP packets were not palatable for me so I thought I'd try some of the drinks such as the vanilla or chocolate. Any other suggestions?

Thank you!!

winewanderer 04-01-2015 04:36 PM

SusieCJ --

I can answer some of your questions. (1) All veggies should be measured raw. They may have significantly less volume after they are cooked. THe same goes for meat -- it should be weighed before it is cooked.
(2) Yes, you should eat all the food that is in the protocol. Eating too little can slow your weight loss be decreasing your metabolism. This is already a low calorie diet. Your body NEEDS all the food that is prescribed. (4) Yes, a IP snack can be eaten an a IP entree. There is no difference -- they are all interchangable. Just remember nt to eat more than one restricted IP food per day. (5) I like the ready made chocolate and vanilla, but ultimately, I feel more full with one of the packets. Keep experimenting -- you'll find stuff that you will like and your taste will change over time.

Shazmatazz 04-01-2015 04:46 PM

Adding to what Suzie asked, is the 8ozs of protein the pre-cooked weight or do they want us eating 8 ozs of cooked protein?

Week Two over, weighed in today with a loss of 4.6 lbs. Total for two weeks is 8.4! I'm thrilled. 6 inches gone also, mostly in my boobs, dammit.

canadjineh 04-01-2015 04:51 PM

Shazzmatazz: 8 oz is raw pre-cooking weight.

My faves were the Peach Mango packet drink, and the Wild Berry yogourt drink. Mainly because they were certified gluten free, and because the things I missed were fruit & dairy products (yogourt & cheese). Those were my breakfasts every day for 3 months except for when it was really cold out I would have the Broccoli Cheddar Soup (also gf).

Susie, are you on the Alternative Diabetic IP plan? 1 fruit, 1 low fat dairy, 1 starch carb per day? I moved from regular P1 to Alternative P1 part way through because my body actually needed a bit more food to lose fat properly. It does work well, it may be a little bit slower than regular P1, but doing what is right for your body is the most important thing.
If you aren't an evening snack person use it at your hungry time (mid-afternoon for me) or break it up into two and have 2 mini snacks during the day/evening.

Liana

asmuir 04-01-2015 04:55 PM

:dizzy:That's where my biggest loss was as well....UGH!

SusieCJ 04-01-2015 05:57 PM

Thanks and more....

Shazmatazz, Winewanderer, and Canadjinah, thank you for helping me! Well, I've been measuring my veggies after they've been cooked so that may be why I feel like I'm overdosing on veggies. Also, I know this is a precise diet so I'm trying to understand all the rules.

Canadjinah, yes I'm on the Alternative IP Diet Plan where one dairy, grain, or fruit is consumed at each meal for the first two weeks. My IP Coach didn't elaborate on the affects of the additional food other than to say it would slow down my weight loss. Nor do I know if I'll go into ketosis during this phase.

Last, most newbies state they are hungry initially but I feel so full all the time. I'm never hungry at meal times so eating or finishing my food has been a challenge for me. I didn't even eat all my protein at dinner last night--I just couldn't stomach it. I'll discuss this with my coach but am a bit confused by my reaction and wondered if anyone has suggestions.

Hi,
I basically have only drinks like the Strawberry Banana drink for my IP foods. I have four eggs, either as an omellete or fried eggs with olive oil. My IP coach said since I am eating 4 eggs, I can have four IP foods, which are the IP drinks. Besides that, I have a huge lettuce, cucumber salad once a day. I do have a tea as well. But I have been doing the same thing everyday. I hope this helps. I am mostly vegetarian, so eggs were my only option that I could eat for my protein source. All the best

dickinsp 04-01-2015 09:51 PM

Hi Ladies,

I am getting more full each day! My next weight in is tomorrow as Friday is easter and the clinic will be closed. I don't think I will have lost as much but its a day short anyway. Ill report what I lost if I did lose anything. I feel more full each day, I could not finish my dinner yesterday. Today I changed the meal and actually ate a little less of protein and extra veggies like cucumber and mushrooms that are free game.

I am trying to eat as much as I can the required food but especially at dinner it is getting harder.

do any of you cheat at all? Like eat a couple of nuts or even a piece of dark chocolate? What happens if you cheat a little bit?

Hi there! There will always be some people to cheat, be it a little or a lot. Some people insist that they wouldn't be able to maintain a diet unless they allowed themselves some wiggle room, and some insist that they wouldn't be able to maintain a diet unless they were strict with themselves.

While a small cheat here and there probably wouldn't throw you out of ketosis, it could. Every body is different. It could stall your losses and make you unmotivated. Or it could tide you over for the time you're on Ideal Protein. The effect of cheating is entirely up to your body and your motivation.

I recommend you read the post The Real Cost of Cheating for some perspective.

Personally, I can't cheat. I did IP two years ago and allowed myself some cheats, and it destroyed my motivation. This time around I know myself better, and I'm in it to win it.

My coach suggests that if you feel hungry to eat an extra ip product, if you crave chocolate eat one of the restricted products or an extra chocolate pudim or chocolate chip pancake mix. I followed this advice once when I was so hungry I couldnt stand it during the first week and it did not effect the weight loss.

Hopefully it helps.

dickinsp 04-02-2015 06:45 PM

Hi Gals,

I had my weight in today, so basically it was only 5 days after my week date but because tomorrow is Easter holiday she called me in to record my weigh. Surprise! In 13 days I lost 9.4lb! I am extremely happy!

Also, the hunger is sooooo mild, having breakfast a little later in the morning is helping a lot and I am not thinking much of food at all! I bought lots of chocolate pudim and double chocolate brownie to prepare myself for Easter, while my husband has his real chocolate I can have my ip chocolate and feel part of the fun!

How are you girls doing? Hopefully everything is going well and you are all prepared for Easter with no suffering!! I think buying low carbs chocolate will be in order even after the diet! When I move to maintenance (keep dreaming !! hehe) I will buy some of the ones that are reduced carbs.

Anyway, happy dieting and no cheating during Easter!! You can do it!!!

Grateful4Health 04-02-2015 06:47 PM

ImaShark I am a fan! Grrrrrreat answer.

vpohani- For me I always ran any possible adjustments past my coach. My coach (which was at a doctor's office) was very flexible, but also a staunch believer in not upsetting the pancreas apple cart so to speak - not eating anything that would cause it to produce insulin. For me an my personal health situation, that was important. So my adjustments only every involved extra IP packets (or subtraction to jumpstart), and occasionally adding or subtracting 1tsp oil or 1/2 oz cheese.
I definitely had a special relationship with the IP chocolate bars:) and often ate one piece of it at dinner, and they knew this, and were fine with it. It helped me get through the year:) It was also nice to save the bar or restricted food when I had friends over, like for date nights it was nice if he was eating chocolate that I could have my little treat also.

The coach said the worst thing I could do was introduce sugar or alcohol, so I didn't. I have heard people who manage to do this (add something) from time to time and bounce back - but I have heard it is a challenge for them, and often will lead to an "overdoing it” response or just quitting….

Grateful4Health 04-02-2015 06:48 PM

lol dickinsp we just posted almost the same response:)
Great minds think alike:)

Cheating can be a slippery slope unless you are very strong-willed and can rein it in and go back to compliance. Tiny cheats won't kill you if they are rare, but when you start having them every single day - you're asking to slow or stall your loss.

Best advice - stick with the protocol until you see your weight loss pattern and understand how changes to the daily macros (carbs, fats, protein, fiber) affect you before you begin attempting to weave cheats in.

Tofu and veggie burgers are also allowed, and give you a break from eggs. If you have a local sprouts take a look at some of their offerings in the vegan section and you may be surprised. :)

If eating 8 raw oz of cooked protein is too much for one sitting, split it between lunch and dinner. The chicken, mushroom and noodle soup packets are really nice with some real meat thrown in and it helps you get all your required protein in.

Some days I will put some of my dinner protein aside and have it as a pre-bedtime snack if I have my supper too early.

dickinsp 04-02-2015 08:33 PM

does anybody know if we can use TVP (textured veggie protein)? I really like it and it can substitute ground beef. I noticed the veggie chilli thats what they used, are we allowed to have 8oz of tvp? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Textured_vegetable_protein

I asked my coach but she did not know, she was going to ask. If one can use it is a good choice for vegetarians.

tuscanygirl 04-02-2015 10:20 PM

Tried it! Delicious!! I actually like it better. The spinach seems to take some of the "fake" taste from the mango drink. Thanks for the tip =)

tuscanygirl 04-02-2015 10:22 PM

I'm sorry you can't get the mango drink...it's pretty delicious once tweaked!

tuscanygirl 04-02-2015 10:30 PM

Hi Lattiuss! Well, I can't really speak much to the impeding weight loss since it's only my second week on program but I don't think so. I don't like green peppers (unless they're stuffed or in chili) but !LOVE red, yellow and orange peppers. I think they're all considered bell peppers. But, now that you've mentioned it I will check with my coach tomorrow just to be absolutely sure.

And, I hear you on the cocktail sauce but with some strong flavors it's not too bad. We just bought the frozen medium size in the grocery store. Always good to have them in the freezer for last minute emergency dinners.

Good luck with the experimenting!!

tuscanygirl 04-02-2015 10:44 PM

I'm such a dork. I thought that by replying to Eatingless and LuckyDVL from within their message it would note their name...sigh. Sorry guys. I'm going to blame it on needing to get some sleep =)

Checking In....

Hello all! Well, it's day 5 of the diet for me and I'm glad I'm still around! Whenever I get 'blue' I turn to 3FC and everyone is so inspiring that I kick myself in the rear (which is fairly big:o) and push onward!

I am a recently diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic so I am on an Alternative IP Plan for the intial two weeks. This means I won't have the dramatic initial weight loss that others experiece but, hey, the weight was sooo slow to come off when I dieted on my own that I doubt it'll worse. (For example, it took me about 8 weeks to lose 5 lbs. at the start of the year.) So if I lose 2 lbs. I'll be ahead!

Okay, I'm going to be Debbie Downer for a minute. Truth be told, I am having a hard time eating the packaged food. I heard some people describe it as 'delicious' and one website even said some of the packets were 'gourmet'! SAY WHAT????? I dislike the food so much that I eat it standing, with the tv on, in order to distract me from the horror. Therefore, I am thrilled when others say how they tweak the packets to make them better. Any tricks you mentioned are noted by me! So please share your experiences! Okay, I'll put a sock in my mouth and stop the Debbie Downer comments now...

On a positive note, I am happy to be so committed to losing weight! Ideal Protein is so unique and uses a totally different approach to dieting. My old dieting methods were not working and I am thankful my doctor told me about IP! And I am very thankful to have found 3FC--my support group!
