I posted this is the community chat but I figured I'd update here as well.
This morning I fell down our basement steps and it looks like I've broken my tailbone. The doctor is getting a second opinion on my radiographs, but he's fairly confident it's fractured.
I'll be going off plan while I heal for the next 6-8 weeks. I w am planning on sticking to a paleo/primal diet to stay in Ketosis and once I'm healed I'll be back!

Good luck to everyone! You've been doing wonderfully and I know you'll be kicking serious butt while I'm gone. See ya'll in May/June!

March 2015 Starters and Rebooters

Good afternoon!

Tomorrow marks the end of my third week on Ideal Protein. The first two weeks went really well. The third week has been extremely challenging!! Since this is my second round of IP, I knew the weight loss would slow down; however, it has pretty much come to a screeching halt. I've been 100% on plan, drinking plenty of water, taking my vitamin supplements and eating all of my vegetables.

Yesterday, we attended my niece's baby shower. I packed my own food knowing that there would be very little that I could eat at the shower. I managed to avoid all of the cupcakes, cheese and other delicious treats. It was more difficult than I thought it would be, but I did it.

I have a weigh-in appointment tomorrow. I'm hoping that I will see inches lost this week since I'm not seeing the weight loss.

Have a great week, everyone!!

Yikes! That's awful, but thank goodness you're going to heal! Good luck and take care of yourself- and see you in a few months! :)

Day 8 starting of a new week. I already feel better and less hungry this morning. Looking forward to the next weight in already! Also, I found Chef Verati facebook page where he has tons of videos of recipes. Next week I am going to buy the rotini to make the asian salad. I had the veggie chili yesterday and I loved it. It has textured soy protein that I used to eat when I was little (mom was vegetarian) and reminded me of its existence! Once I start phasing out of the program I am going to start eating it more often as a meat alternative a few days a week. Happy week for you ladies, we can do it!

Today is HARD! It is my 8th day. I lost the first 3 days and not the last half of week 1. I think I'd be better encouraged if I lost a smaller amount each day instead of a bulk in the beginning of the week. I've lost water weight before and could never get any more weight off beyond that. I keep telling myself that is NOT what's happening this time and one day in week 2 I'm gonna see another drop. I know it isn't possible, but I really wish today could be a cheat day. My emotions could use it.

Don't get discouraged! We all lose weight differently- I tend to hover +/- .5 lbs all week, then drop several pounds on Sat or Sun. All the hard work you do during the week DOES add up, just not when you want/expect it to.
If you get discouraged without consistent losses throughout the week, don't weigh yourself daily! Get used to a happy surprise once a week. :)

Hang in there you can do it! I am avoiding the scale for a few days because I know some days there will be no changes and the boom a drop! I think fat is lighter than muscle and it may be the reason it takes a while to show the drop in the scale. Takes a lot more of fat to actually show a drop.

Its going to be alright, try to get your head occupied.. Play a game, go out of a short walk. Its spring! At least that will help get us out of the house.

simplchaos 03-29-2015 12:36 PM

Thanks. I think not weighing myself is key. Even though that might be more challenging than the diet itself.

Sorry to hear that you got hurt, and will not be not be doing IP. I hope you get to feeling better. But I have a question and that is because I will be having surgery on the 6th and I plan on staying on IP. Is there a reason you are not staying with IP. Should I be concerned that the IP plan will not allow me to heal, my downtime is 8-10 weeks (even thought I plan on only taking 3 weeks off from work) and I was hoping that it would be easier to do this plan while I am down so I won't gain any weight.

I gained a 130lbs in one year due to injuries I received in the line of duty, which ultimately forced me into an early retirement after 18 yrs. I am PRAYING that IP will be my miracle to get back to a somewhat "normal" me again, whatever that is supposed to be!!! :)

Congrats Shelly!:cheer2::cheer2: That is so encouraging on your weight loss in such a short amount of time. I am looking forward to seeing results soon, I have not had my official week 1 weigh in yet, but I feel so much better so I am sure the scale will show that.

Good Job! Stay OP!!

Sunday Salad

Hey ladies I want to share with you my phase 1 salad today. I have been watching Chef Verati's video and it inspired my to experiment a bit.

Today I made a delicious salad and it was a huge serving too!

The recipe is:

2 cups of bean sprouts
1 cup of cucumber
1 cup of fresh mushrooms
2 cups of baby spinach
a pinch of sea salt
1 teaspoon of olive oil
black pepper to taste
a teaspoon of soy sauce (no carbs!)
1 package of mushroom soup

So I mixed all the veggies in a big bowl and made the soup with my shake blender. I put the soup in the microwave for 2 minutes as it is instructed for soups but after it was done I dumped it in my salad like a salad dressing. It was a creamy huge salad!

I think if we make our foods more interesting it is easier to keep in the program. At least thats what I keep repeating to myself. As today is Sunday I am having the ip brownie for snack! I love the ip brownie and I am looking forward to it. hhehehe

That's a great question. My reasoning is just that while healing, I don't want to have such a restricted diet. My body doesn't need to be working on healing my coccyx AND trying to lose weight at the same time. I'll just be adding a little more protein and fat to get me through. No donuts and chips, I promise! :-)

I found my 8th day the hardest to, and lost 7 pounds by my 7th day but really nothing the next 3-4 days, so I decided to stay off the scale for a few days. :?:

The old IP was that you can only eat at meal times and no snacking but it sounds like the unlimited raw veggies can be whenever and I feel like its wrong...I also get confused using Nashua Nutrition for the food because it doesnt say what is restricted so I try to remeber what was on the IP like the bars and eggs so I only have them 1 time a week but this says 1 time a day...I dont want to waste my time :?:

There is a chart that shows the guidelines for restricted or not but I'm not sure how to find it and then put it here.
I didn't things eggs were a restriction. Maybe I'm wrong. I know if it's over 8 net carbs it's restricted.

:( :?:I weigh in tomorrow. I have been on IP for a month and the scale is not moving down very fast. I have not cheated once but I am not in ketosis (pee stick and ketosis symptoms just not there.) How am I going to burn the fat if I don't get into ketosis? I am discouraged. I think that the products are expensive, as well. What is the least expensive way to do this and stay OP?:?:

vpohani 03-30-2015 08:40 PM

Hello everyone, I'm new here. Tried this plan a couple of times before and lost weight. Due to my recent separation, I am at an all time high where I just sat around drank wine and ate a lot. Now i'm motivated to look good again. Here are my questions, what are the symptoms of ketosis and what do you do when you hit a plateau. Also, when does the weight slow down? week 2 or 3? How do you manage when you get so sick of the shakes?

let me know,

Veena

vpohani 03-30-2015 08:53 PM

and the last question I have is does it work the same the 2nd or 3rd time around? When I did herbal magic, it only works once. The pills were only effective the first time, after that the body recognizes the pills and it doesn't work at all. But the weight falls off on Herbal Magic the first time. you don't even know how you got that slim that fast. Its unbelievable.

tuscanygirl 03-30-2015 10:09 PM

Evening all. Hope everyone is having a great day on IP! I had my first weigh in last Friday and was down 2.3 in a little less than a week. Have to admit I was sort of hoping for a little more after hearing so much about 3-5 pounds a week and in the past (on other programs) I usually lose a lot (probably water) the first week. Oh well.

Didn't get discouraged because it's still a loss and every BODY is different. Luckily I haven't found IP to be too, too bad. Don't get me wrong, I still daydream about certain things but then I replace that daydream with the dream of looking good in the clothing of my choice =) Definitely noticed the hunger the first couple of days but seemed to get better by Day 3.

Enjoying figuring out what I like (hello cappuccino drink blended with crushed ice) and dislike (really maple oatmeal? you let me down). Have been experimenting a bit (figured I would focus on routine first then experiment more) and, for me, I've found a lot of the drinks are more palatable when blended with crushed ice (that thick "mango" drink actually becomes almost like a mango smoothie..almost). I love, love my Ninja blender. Was a bit skeptical...would it really be better than a Cuisinart? or Kitchen Aid? but yup, it's awesome! Highly recommend it. Bought it with a coupon at Costco so it wasn't too expensive and comes with two portable, blender containers so you can blend in one container, replace the cover and off you go.

So, looking forward to weigh in #2. Thanks for listening and I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow! If you're struggling, just remind yourself about why you're doing this..and drink some water! =)

tuscanygirl 03-30-2015 10:23 PM

Oh, I almost forgot...how do you guys measure the 2 cups of veggies? I've been using a measuring cup but obviously not every vegetable fits in there "smoothly". Do you sort of guesstimate? 'cause I've actually been thinking I might be eating more vegetables than I need to depending on how it's measured. For instance I think 1.5 roasted peppers is a 1 cup..does that fit with what you guys think? And, I'm guessing it's probably okay to split the lunch 2 cups in to 1 cup at breakfast and 1 cup at lunch if that works better for me but figured I would check with the "gurus". I'll ask my coach when I see her too. Thanks!!

hysteria_625 03-30-2015 10:41 PM

Princess - here are the guidelines for alt-IP foods:

Here's a detailed breakdown to consider:
- under 160 calories = Unrestricted (though MOST IP packets range from 90-120)
- 160-200 calories = Restricted (once/daily)
slightly over 200 cals (or 30% fat) is super-restricted (once/weekly)
- less than 30% cal from fat (multiply cals from fat x 3; OK if lower than total cals.)
- under 8 g net carbs - unrestricted
- 9g-16g net carbs - restricted
- 17g net carbs - super restricted (only once/twice per week)
- above 17g net carbs is too high to be good for Phase 1
- at least 12-15g protein (don’t go much above 20g regularly)

* NET = Total carbs minus fiber (some people also subtract all sugar alcohols from total carbs; some subtract half; some choose to not subtract any...... sugar alcohols can affect your body similarly to sugar with spikes) Also remember NO Aspartame!

Great thread(s) to look through for more information

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/idea...-part-6-a.html

It takes a little work / research, but is totally do-able! And if you are reallly indecisive about a product, ask - lots of great folks here :) Good luck

Lalison 03-30-2015 10:52 PM

Well, week one back on the diet is done and I lost about 7.5 lbs. It was up to 9 but I gained a pound back the day before I weighed. That's what I get for not eating all of my vegetables and drinking all my water! That is much bigger than my first loss when I was on the diet previously. I only lost 4 lbs that very first week (And I had much more to lose!). Since I have so much less to lose this time so I'm digging in my heels and preparing for the long haul, as being so much closer to goal means it will come off much slower. Eek!

It can be done!

I have found that the diet definitely works multiple times. I have known people who have done the diet multiple times successfully. If my loss this week is any indication, it works just as well! The thing is, as you get closer to your goal the weight loss slows down quite a bit. So if you are starting at a lower weight now than when you first went on IP then it might be slower.

canadjineh 03-31-2015 12:00 AM

;) If you have to do it multiple times, technically it isn't successful ;)
lol, that's what phase 4 maintenance is for. Just giving you a bit of a ribbing - take me with a grain of salt.

BTW Herbal Magic pills have changed their formula over the past several years. They are no longer able to sell the combo of ingredients that worked amazingly 8 or more years ago. Same with Hydroxicut. They also had to change their formula which was very similar to Herbal Magic's.

Hang in there gang, it gets better!

Tomorrow I have my first reboot weigh in. I am hoping for good results because the last few days have been so hard. I can say I am pretty much starving all day. I'm getting all my required veggies, protein and water. I have found myself watching the clock waiting to see when my next meal is. It's 9 p.m. and I am so darn hungry I hope to get tired soon so that I can go to sleep and not think about it. I know I was very hungry the last time I did IP. It seems as though I am in the minority regarding hunger and found that last time too. Funny thing is is that I didnt eat huge amounts of food before just high calorie food. Oh well, I won't give into this hunger. My body seems to want to fight me but i'm not listening. Lol

IP and hormones

I have question for the ladies, experienced and or just starting out. In my coaching session and per one of the videos they discuss how our hormones can be affected. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. My menstral cycle started on the very day that I began the IP program 2 1/2 weeks ago, I went through a normal cycle and just today I starte having my period again. A little frustrating having to go through that again so quickly after I just finished. Just trying to gauge if that's normal or if I shoul be concerned. :?:

I was starving the first two weeks on IP and actually went to sleep a bunch of nights at 8:00. I literally put the kids to bed and then went to bed myself. The rest of the time on P1, I had to adjust my protein intake to have my a bar for snack at mid morning and then some of my dinner protein at lunch or else I got light headed. It got especially bad when I was about 10 pounds to goal. I actually went to the doctor because I thought something was really wrong. I think in the end, it was a combo of stress and TOM. But, I will say I never technically felt hungry after the first 2 weeks, but my body was telling me I needed food.

Thank you

Hello ladies, day 11 for me and I have to say it gets better! On Sunday I was so hungry most of the day, all I could think about was FOOD!! hehehe I did resist the cravings and did not have a single extra ip food!!! However, on Monday magically I had not much hunger at all, I switched to have my breakfast a little later, I was having it first thing in the morning at 7am when I get up and then at 10 I wanted to eat everything in front of me. Today I actually had to remember to eat and just realized it was time to eat when I glanced at the clock and remembered of the vitamins!!!!

I am really enjoying not thinking so much about food!!! What a great feeling not being hungry and having urge to eat. Before the diet I was often thinking of food. I have been experimenting a lot with different recipes and I am actually enjoying learning how to cook and eat in a healthy way. I think it helps that I like veggies! I recently started introducing bok choy in my recipes and I absolutely love it!

I cant wait for my next weight in but I feel fabulous and I think this diet will work. Hang in there ladies! There is a page of Chef Verati on facebook with many videos of recipes, I watch them and adapt according to what I like (and is ok with the ip phase 1 protocol!).

Also, I like the double chocolate brownie and the cookies and cream bars!! Yummmmm I eat them in the weekend and it feels like a weekend cheat, but it is not!! All ip foods!!!

Here is the link https://www.facebook.com/lowfatlowcarb?fref=ts
Check it out for ideas!!! Happy dieting.

Good afternoon ladies,

Sorry for the MIA the last 5 days! I was really battling some negative energy and didn't want to burden.

My box of alternatives arrived last Friday! I really like the Protidiet Pancakes. Very good with WF syrup :-) I discovered Quest bars and oh my delicious! I will definitely be getting more of those!

Sunday and Monday we're rough days. I was really dizzy and fatigued Sunday and have no idea why :-( Then yesterday I had my first weigh in. I lost 7.4 lbs the first week. I'm sure that's great, but it's less than the 10lbs I lost the first time around.

Does anyone have a hard time eating the lean protein for the actual meal we get? If so, what do you suggest? I can't eat red meat as it makes me sick. The turkey burgers I made last night were so awful I couldn't even choke all of it down. I ate SO much chicken the first time around, I don't find it appetizing any more :-( What suggestions do you ladies have????? For a short term fix, I've decided to have my daily meal at breakfast and have eggs, but I'd love any advice, tips and/or tricks that work for you.

Thank you for listening :-)

For the ones that are doing the alternative method, which shake do you use that qualifies as unrestricted? I heard of the Quest powder but it has 22g protein, and we arent supposed to go over 17g per serving... so what do you guys buy?

I use EAS Carb Advantage shakes. They're all good, but strawberry is my favorite :-) The vanilla can be good in coffe and my husband loves the dark chocolate :-)

I eat fish, bought some cod and Salmon, but salmon is restricted cant have it everyday. Without eating red meat you are a bit limited but there are many things you can do with chicken and fish to be a little different.
