I did IP initially in 2009 and had wonderful success. Since then I've tried it about 4 more times. Each time I've tried it I've lost 15-20 lbs in and around four months. Always gaining it back

I'm overweight but I don't seem to be overweight enough to see better faster results as I don't think even my best success on IP was as successful as it's supposed to be (not complaining just explaining)

Anyhow, about two years ago i started having digestion issues. Convinced this had nothing to do with the diet because at that time I didn't start IP until about two weeks after the digestion issues began. Went to the dr, had a colonoscopy and endoscope, found some stomach inflammation and diverticulosis. Change of diet and colonoscopy took care of that. Then last year I started IP again and digestion issues flared immediately. I persisted with IP because I've read it's actually ideal for someone who has digestion issues. It took months and on this to resolve.

I should get to my point lol I want to start IP again because I've gained some weight. I'm scared digestion issues will begin and tbh people freak out when they learn I'm on IP. It's supposed to be medically safe but people in my life blame this diet and I'm just not convinced that it's a culprit nor a contributing factor.

So I guess I'm asking, have I damaged my digestive system doing this? Do you think your body 'remembers' diets and during a restart it says oh no not happening? Do you think my decreasing losses are because I've done the program so many times? Do you think I've damaged my metabolism by doing this?

Thanks for reading my post! I look forward to some feedback and thank you in advance. Sorry if this reads a little oddly, I'm tying on my iPad and it's not the comfiest

Just a few thoughts on this:

1. Is it possible you have a soy allergy? Many IP foods contain soy. I think 2 that don't are the Choc Drink Mix and the White Cheddar Crisps ... but check the packaging. You might try avoiding soy and see if that helps

2. I was eating a lot of rainbow peppers and I was just reading about how vegetables classified as "Nightshades" (which peppers belong) can cause digestive issues in some people. You can google that .... but here is one reference ...
http://paleoleap.com/nightshades/

3. If all else fails keep really detailed records of exactly what and how much you eat. and see if there is any pattern with certain foods and any issues. You can try eliminating or adding certain foods from time to time to see if there is any change.

I would be wary if you're having such a terrible response to IP. Gluten and soy and dairy don't agree with a lot of people. After I lose the weight and phase off, I actually think I'll eat a diet more similar to the Whole 30 plan. You may want to explore that and other options for those with digestive issues.

What did they do during the colonoscopy - were there polyps removed or ?????
Describe your change of diet. That may tell us what was eliminated from your diet to help your condition. Once you have a list, you can approach a coach/clinic for exact ingredients in products.
I was very limited in IP products because I have to be gluten free, and a few others who are sensitive/allergic to soy could not use IP products at all. You can do this with alternatives as well, but you need to know what foods bother your condition so you can choose healthy veggies and proteins that 'agree' with you.

Please get back to us and we can help on this...

Hi Liana! Thanks for writing. To answer your questions yes, I had a couple polyps removed, I personally think the issue resolved itself due to the colonoscopy prep, it totally cleared me out and the Dr did say there was some diverticular and the prep maybe took care of that. I just know after the procedure the nauseau went away. My diet changed in the sense that about two weeks after I started having issues (mostly nausea and bloating) I started IP and I trust you know what that consists of.

Late December 2015 my ND did a food sensitivity test so I'll be seeing her this week coming to get the results. I've tried an elimination diet and my body gives such subtle responses it's been really hard to tell what bothers me.

Maybe my initial post wasn't clear. My digestion issues began in April 2014, I did IP in May 2014. Then last year I did IP in May and the digestion issues started at the same time. There's other contributing factors i.e. stress mostly that were present both times.

I could easily restart right now and see what happens but I just wondered how people generally feel about starting and stopping the program many times and its effects on metabolism or if others have done the same and experienced less and less losses over time.

nine - I believe (and there is some science to back it up) that yo-yo dieting has a cumulative negative effect and the body can become 'diet resistant'. That said, I am someone who's tried it all, so to speak, from the Cabbage Soup Diet to Atkins, and after 30+ years of being overweight, finally got to a healthy BMI doing IP (& I should add, on my own, with the alternate products because of a soy intolerance).
I am only a couple weeks into maintenance though...I've seen some posts around the internet about loses being even better when restarting IP...and how doing bi-annual reboots are encouraged in maintenance, so I don't think there is a whole lot of fear about IP not remaining a successful way to lose weight. They don't recommend continuously rebooting though ie splurging out for a month, going back to full P1 & having to phase off completely only to repeat said-cycle (if that makes sense).

Hi Guys!

Thanks for all your replies! Input is always appreciated.

So, I got my results back from my food sensitivity/intolerance test. I'm not sure I'm entirely sold on the idea of this test but anyhow, my results reported that I have a high intolerance to wheat, cows milk, almonds, peas, celery, yeast (bakers), white beans, barley, pistachio, peanut, sunflower seed and a mild intolerance to egg whites, mustard seeds and red beans.

Some of these things I haven't eaten in ages and most of these don't really bother me to remove from my diet with exception to of course egg whites and wheat ... and almonds, just because I like them. EVERYTHING seems to have wheat in it and at the same time I'm not surprised to see it in the report at all. I'm sad about the egg whites ....

So, I snooped online for some IP ingredients before I jump in again and there's not a whole lot without wheat. Tbh wheat is the only thing I'm especially concerned with trying to avoid (I don't drink cows milk, except for a dash in coffee or tea) ....heck I might even overlook wheat it if it means I can drop 20 lbs. But if the digestion issues flare up again I just don't know what I'll do

I had another look over my past IP experiences and I have no idea how this table will translate on here. It's not terribly important I guess but I'll include it anyhow. It details the year, the change in weight month over month, my weight by month (month not detailed on the left) and the amount of $ spent on IP at the bottom relevant to the year. 2012-2013 were interesting - I took a closer look at my file and noticed I was tracking my basal temps those years and taking a thyroid supplement as my return to IP in 2012 wasn't yielding appropriate results - coincidentally those two years I lost the most weight and spent the least $ on IP.

Of course I'm currently back to tracking my BBT in the AM. I don't currently have digestive issues and I'm pretty sure a slow thyroid is unrelated so on that front I'm still looking for answers. Unless cutting wheat, and cows milk from my java was indeed the issue - we shall see in time.

Thanks for the ref to Whole 30 I will definitely check it out.
