Calling All August Starters

My Mom and have are first appointment on Tuesday. We went to an information session a few weeks back and I am really excited to get started. I have been stalking the threads for a bit and feel that between my coach and the wonderful group on here I am bound to have success and a great support system!

lisa32989 08-04-2014 07:40 AM

I would highly recommend joining the daily chat and (after you've begun) the 100% thread. These threads are where the community is built and where you'll find people with experience to answer your questions.

Hello everyone! :) I started IP diet on 8/13 (yes, lucky 13!) ;) Today is my 3rd day 100% OP :carrot:

Lose2Win2014 08-15-2014 09:20 PM

Hi Everyone,
Glad to meet other newbies! I started on 8/6. I lost 8 lbs. my first week, but my next weigh-in is Monday, and I know that I am losing less. So far I've done well; 100% IP with no cheating.

Looking forward to hearing all your success stories!

Lose2Win2014 - Nice to meet you too! Congratulations on losing 8 lbs. WOW, you did SUPER GREAT on your first WI, and GRATS on staying 100% OP, I've learned that those who stay 100% no cheating meet their goals faster. Usually the most loss is during the first week. Lets try to do it right, no cheating, one day at a time! WE CAN DO THIS!!!:carrot:

sydster2017 08-15-2014 10:25 PM

I'm starting tomorrow . I want to feel good about myself and fit into my pageant dresses better; also I want to lise 109+ pounds for my sweet 16. Anyone want to help me get through the first day. i have a instagram&kik I can contact you. I dont even know where to start.

WhoDat730 08-15-2014 11:11 PM

:welcome3: to the board everyone!

Hello Iron Woman and thenewme42!

Hello again Ariel13!

Way to go! Lose2Win2014, great first week loss!

Hi, sydster2017 Welcome! If you have any questions or just need anyone to talk to please feel free to pm me!

I have done IP in the past and loved it but moving and life got in the way. So I restarted on 8/7 with my boyfriend. I'm down 6 lbs and he's down 10 lbs. (darn guys lose weight so much faster! lol). The first time I did IP I lost 10 lbs my first week, so I was bummed to not lose as much but a loss is still a loss. It's also my TOM so I'm hoping that played into and I'll do better next week!

Ariel13 08-16-2014 12:54 AM

Hello WhoDat:D :woohoo:Congrats on your weight loss! Oh, and yes, guys are so lucky, but you've done an awesome job, losing 6lbs. in one week and during the TOM..Keep up the good job! ;)

Welcome sydster! Good luck tomorrow! I am also new, just finishing my 3rd day, and honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (I thought I would be miserable the first 3 days) Just make sure to drink lots of water, someone here suggested to drink half of what you weight (so if you weight 200lbs you'll drink 100oz of water daily) Also, don't forget your supplements and the salt and oil, and take advantage of the extra IP food that's allowed for the first week, and eat as much unlimited veggies as you can, to make yourself feel full...and if you get hungry, drink cold water and remind yourself why you started this diet. You can always come here to share your day with us, this forum has been very helpful, is like a big family here, so I hope to see you around! :carrot:

Iron Woman 08-16-2014 01:41 AM

Great job everyone!
Ariel13 I am 100% OP and agree that success will come faster for those that have stayed OP. I am hoping all the newbies here make the commitment to yourself to give this plan 100%. Are you with me? :D

With you 100%, Iron Woman! Saw this Tommy Lasorda quote today, and I thought it was appropriate:

"The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's (or woman's :) ) determination."

Have a great 100% day, August friends!

You can do this sydster! Just take it one IP meal at a time, try to stay busy these first few days (I cleaned my house and organized my office area haha), and take a nap if you really are feeling tired. Your body needs to readjust so sometimes in the beginning we can feel crappy. It is normal and will get better if you power through and stay OP (on plan).

Thank you for sharing that beautiful quote with us Lose2Win ! We need all the motivation we can get! (I'm writing down quotes and placing them on my fridge) I guess these are supposed to be the hardest days, right? Or are these the easiest ones? because so far it hasn't been really bad or hard.

This thread makes me happy! I just started 8/13 too, and today was my first weekend day on program. I'm disciplined at work, but weekends at home are my downfall. So, I took my kids to the park and did as much housework that I could tolerate. Lol! Anything to keep busy! I'm still getting used to eating the packets, and trying to find the ones I like best. But, I'm very excited to start this journey and I'm so thankful for groups like this that are so helpful and supportive!

Hi PugLady,
I've found that after you find the food that you like it becomes much easier to stay OP. It's helped so far by making sure that I have some variety in the packs. I also make my dinner and snack something that I can look forward to.

Adventuregurl 08-17-2014 12:23 AM

Hi Everyone,

I'm an August joiner, I joined on the 8th and lost 2.5 lbs. my first week and stuck to the plan 100%, was a bit disappointed as I expected more loss on week 1.

I am already thinking I may have to go to the alternative IP products as the sucralose is bugging me. I also can't do gluten and soy's not really good for me either. Frankly I'm still really hungry (like low blood sugar at times) and I think it's the products doing it to me as my coach says I should be in ketosis by now and not hungry.

I'll press on for now though.

Lose2Win2014 08-17-2014 08:52 PM

Does everyone's clinic work differently? I am required to buy 3 boxes of packets a week. I paid a registration fee (about $200)that entitled me to 20 weigh-ins. I don't know how they would make any money if I wasn't required to buy my food through them.

All the talk I read of alternative products just made me wonder. I don't have much need for many alternative products with as much IP as I have to buy.

I hope all your side effects will pass soon, Adventuregurl.

Adventuregurl 08-18-2014 12:40 AM

Thanks Lose2Win, I do too - I think I'm just very sensitive to certain ingredients on top of my allergies.

I don't have to buy a certain amount of product, at least I've never been told I had to. I did pay a one time coaching fee of $150 but if I meet goal my place gives me back half of that value in food.

These varying business models are fascinating! I paid for the starter food pack - it included 10 days of IP food and a month of supplements, and a fee that covered initial consult and program review, website access to to program materials like the videos etc. My total was around $300+ ... I will check my receipt. No mention of required weekly purchase but since joining I have only paid for food I have purchased at each weigh in.

I was able to trade in things from the start pack when I returned for week 1 weigh in... Like the fruit drinks- I traded for choc and cappuccino.... My starter pack included one of most of the products, tho not all, and I was able to get samples of some stuff that was not in the a starter pack. Very flexible arrangement. Never heard a required box purchase requirement, but clearly the coaches must earn some profit margin so I expect to buy product.

The discussions of alternatives identify optional ways to follow the IP protocol at lower cost and to find products that do not have some of the ingredients that cause digestive problems for some, like gluten and soy. Some people follow the protocol with no coach by using alternative products that mirror the IP product nutrient profiles.

There are so many IP outlets at doctors' and chiropractors' offices - it should be easy to find a place that offers more flexibility - I would have hated to start buying boxes of product that I did not like.

Ps: I am a July 2014 IP starter who found 3FC a year or so ago, and just checks out any IP threads with recent posts.... Your August group seems great, and off to a very good start!

PghGal 08-18-2014 10:28 AM

I'm new to IP as well ... this Wednesday will be day one (products and supplements will arrive then!).

I am using alternative products including EAS shakes, protidiet and Lindora packets.

My downfall is that I love fruits and berries so it will be difficult to give them up. My favorite veggies unfortunately green beans, which are limited. I do love salad and asparagus so hopefully this will sustain me! :)

I am a bridesmaid in a wedding in late October, and although of course it's not like I am going to lose a TON Of weight by then, 15-20 pounds would make a difference to me.

Good luck all! I will be checking back regularly and look forward to posting with ya'll! :D

sarajoyus 08-18-2014 01:08 PM

I agree oneuh2, the different business models are fascinating!

My "clinic" (in quotes because it's only losely associated with a chiropractic office and my "coach" knows less about biology/nutrition/wellness than I do :) ) charges $350 for the first week--includes a week of food, consult, screening, etc. and then $99/week after that (21 packets, weigh-in, "coaching") It's PRICEY! But there's no financial penalty for missed weeks, so I have been supplementing with alternatives (also due to soy/gluten/sucralose issues) kinda saving up packets, and after this week will only be weighing in (and paying the $100) once or twice a month.

Lberated 08-18-2014 01:28 PM

August starter

Hi y'all. My husband and I both started the program our first day august 12th. We weigh tonight but both are already feeling so much better. I officially our scale shows he is down 10 and I'm down 7. It's an adjustment getting used to some of the textures but we are cheat free so feeling good. Blessed to have a partner doing it with me. Looking forward to sharing this journey with you.

Lose2Win2014 08-18-2014 02:51 PM

Welcome PghGal and Lberated! I hope you sail smoothly through this program! It's great you have your husband doing this with you, Lberated. I am finding it fairly easy to adapt dinner to the needs of my family and still make what I need. I have boys in my house, and they love simply prepared meats. I might have to skip a side dish, but otherwise I'm ok.

oneuh2 - you always have great comments. Glad you posted on the August starters!

I went for my week 2 visit today, and I was down 4.2 lbs! So excited! I know it will slow down some from here, but I'm so happy to be off to a good start.

ShelbyLynn8 08-18-2014 03:15 PM

HI Everyone,
I started IP alternatives on 8/7/14, and I'm down 9 pounds. I'm 100% OP!
Thanks to nature I just started TOM, so we'll see how this second week goes!! Good Luck to Everyone, "And May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor"-Hunger Games

RefreshingMe 08-18-2014 04:15 PM

Hello All,
Just started today. I am excited to be started on the path towards my goal. It does feel overwhelming knowing that u have so many days and choices and obstacles ahead but I am willing to cultivate the attributes of patience, perseverance and determination to make it through.
Very happy that there is such a large support system in IP on this site. And it is so nice to know those who are starting off right now with me ;)

You sound like me sarajoyus, have you found any good products without those culprits - the sucralose is making me hungrier and making my blood sugar drop :(? I am not going to be able to do it!

Ariel13 08-19-2014 12:00 AM

Hello August IPers! ;) This Wednesday I will be going to for my first WI, I will let you know how it goes. So far, I have not cheated, I've been 100% OP. I have been feeling fine, not that hungry though, with the exception of last Saturday, I got my "monthly gift" and I had cramps an a terrible headache, so basically I was in bed most of the day. I also right after eating dinner I got sick, it was a miserable day. I don't know if it was because it was TOM (I usually get cramps and sometimes headaches) or I don't know if it was me withdrawing from carbs/sugars...I had been fine till Saturday (When I received my monthly friend.)
Good luck to everyone! We should stick to it 100% and just take it one day at a time...I will be coming here to share how I'm doing, and to get and give support! I'm glad I found this forum, I don't feel alone. :grouphug:

PghGal Welcome! Don't worry, it won't be too hard (at least the first week) I was eating donuts, Danishes, pizza, iced coffee, coke, chips like every day! And I've been able to live off them for the past 5 days! Before I couldn't survive ONE day without them. Good luck to you, you'll lose weight for the wedding (how exciting!) And do come back to check regularly, and let us know how you're doing! :carrot:

sarajoyus 08-19-2014 11:32 AM

@Adventuregurl, I've been using Designer Whey (both RTD and powder) They are an exceptionally high-quality protein blend (enhanced branched chain amino content for better bioavailability) Soy-free, Gluten-free and sweetened with stevia.

I've also been making my own omelets a few times a week (1 whole egg, 3 whites)...seems silly to me to pay for "albumin protein" (dehydrated egg white) when the nutritional profile on real eggs is almost identical with a bioavailability of 96%!

I know Lisa and others use and are fond of the Quest bars (also soy-free, gluten-free and sweetened with stevia) Not being a big fan of bars in general...and feeling like I need to limit myself most of the time, just personally, to one "sweet" packet per day, I've leaned toward the Quest chips, which have the same qualities. [now watch me end up 'programmed' to have chips every day ;) ]

As far as the IP packets go, I do still use some of the drinks (all have sucralose) but have been mixing them with Designer Whey plain and simple (unsweetened) powder and splitting into 2 servings to reduce the impact. (my body is not zero-tolerance on sucralose)

Other than that, I've been getting creative with the GF, sucralose-free soups and potato puree--there are TONS of great recipes and ideas around here.

Good Luck--and do share your strategies as they evolve!

RefreshingMe 08-20-2014 10:27 AM

Good luck on your WI today ariel13! It's funny I always thought of 13 as unlucky growing up and when I met my husband he let me know in his (Italian) culture 13 is a lucky number... I sure hope so cause my wedding ring is a bigger diamond that is clustered with 12 small ones ;)
Hopefully TOM won't affect things too much for you today!
ironwoman- I noticed that we are pretty much the same height and weight right now!

PugLady 08-20-2014 10:38 AM

Well, I had my first weigh in last night, and I was down 7.4! I'm so excited! I also got all new and different food than I had last week, and I'm already enjoying the change. I had the cappuccino for breakfast this morning, and it almost tasted like real coffee! I can really tell how eating healthier makes such a difference in my mood. I just feel better. On to week 2!

Welcome and congratulations for starting! IP is a wonderful diet regardless of if you follow it using IP branded items or alternatives.

Huge word of advice, stick with it, the scale and measuring tape will go down. When tempted to cheat, don't. Skinny tastes a whole lot better than any food you can ever eat.

Welcome!

Thanks for the advice! Yesterday I was bad and ate two slices of pizza, first time in 2 weeks :( I feel horrible about doing it. But I read a quote that said
"Do Not Give Up Just Cause You Had A Bad Day. Forgive Yourself and Do Better Tomorrow." So today I'm right back to my normal IP routine :smug:

Johnsdeere 08-20-2014 04:18 PM

That's a great plan Shelby. Don't beat yourself up, just get back on the wagon AND evaluate why you chose to eat the pizza so next time you can eliminate triggers to prevent you from doing it again.

Great Advice, Johnsdeere! I've really been trying to just eat during the 4 times a day...no in between freebie food like lettuce. The reason is that I think I was in a bad habit of snacking between meals. The result: I've noticed that sometimes since starting the diet, I am seriously bored. Boredom seems to be a trigger for me. I never really felt bored because at the first sign of it, I ate something. Now I need to find new, healthier patterns.

Thanks for sharing, Shelby. You all have me thinking.
