Thanks for sharing, Shelby. You all have me thinking.

I have the same problem with boredom!! I find myself watching Cake Boss on Netflix when I'm having cravings. Horrible I know, but if I watch it instead of eating it I feel like it helps. And when I get a little craving I drink a bunch of water and wait like 10 minutes and it goes away. It works for me not sure if it will work for others..

Hopefully TOM won't affect things too much for you today!

Hello and Welcome RefreshingMe :) Lol, I know the #13 is unlucky for many, but for me is also a lucky number, plus, I was born on March 13!:D Nice to have you with us, we will finish this journey!:carrot:

I guess my TOM didn't affect my weight loss much!! First WI I lost 11 lbs. and 9 in. :carrot::carrot: I was 100% OP and I plan to stay 100% OP this week too! :carrot::carrot:

I had the cappuccino for breakfast this morning, and it almost tasted like real coffee! I can really tell how eating healthier makes such a difference in my mood. I just feel better. On to week 2!

:woohoo: CONGRATULATIONS PugLady !!!!! I also have the cappuccino for breakfast, and the strawberry banana drink too! Now that you mention it, my mood has changed too, but OMG when I'm hungry I get very anxious, and can't wait enough to start eating my veggies...which I'm enjoying now :o Good luck this week!! Huge word of advice, stick with it, the scale and measuring tape will go down. When tempted to cheat, don't. Skinny tastes a whole lot better than any food you can ever eat.

Welcome!

Thanks Johnsdeere for your wonderful advice, it is really appreciated :) And I LOVE that "Skinny tastes a whole lot better than any food you can ever eat"! Thanks!!!

Good Job on getting back on the diet ShelbyLynn , and just think about today, yesterday is the past, and tomorrow is not here yet, so why worry about it?! :carrot:

Lose2Win I would always eat out of boredom, happiness, sadness, anything, I'm an emotional eater, so this week, I felt good to turn to food! I hope I can do the same this week, as I did last one... Has anyone here read the book "The Beck Diet Solution" ?? I've read in the forum that is a great book to read when in a diet, I borrowed it from my local library, I should start reading it this weekend. :carrot:

Hi all !!

I restarted 8/2. Last time I did IP I loss 25lbs. I am so looking forward to doing better this time. My losses so far, mimics my last time doing IP. Frustrating, but any loss is better than a gain. I'm keeping my head up. Some days are better than others that's for sure.

Iron Woman 08-21-2014 12:26 AM

Great job on the losses everyone! I lost another 3 this week and am down over 9 inches in two weeks! :carrot:

RefreshingMe we have the same goal weight too! :D

Ariel13 I am reading the Beck Diet Solution now. I started it before I went on IP knowing that I was going to star it soon and found myself making better choices before I went OP.

I think a lot of us boredom eat! During P1 my house was really clean and organized. I'd hit my usual snack time and start cleaning something or rearranging furniture (poor dh's back!). If the weather cooperates, yard work is good too.

Yes, Ruth Ann! My closets are getting organized right now. I will be in P1 for a long time, so there is no telling what I will accomplish.

It is really amazing to feel the emotions that I didn't feel before IP. They were just covered with food. I'm working on adding more fun activity into my days.

Congrats Ariel and Iron Woman! Great weeks for you!:carrot::carrot:

byugrl- :welcome: back!
ironwoman- CONGRATS!! That's another great loss for the second week! Amazing how fast 10 pounds can disappear on this program...
After all the rave reviews of the Beck Diet book I'm going to have to read it.
losing2win- you are very right- boredom is such a major player in eating. As much as it doesn't seem like an emotion it so is. And finding other more positive strategies to overcome it rather than eating it seems such a vital lesson. Not only in losing but in maintaining.
shelby- I found this weight loss quote really spoke to me... "Discipline is remembering what you want" . It can be so easy to get caught up in the moment and forget what we really want. Especially as we are training ourselves out of old habits. Maybe visualizing yourself attaining goal would help? The pride of not only looking great but also in having overcome your old habits and having replaced them with new, healthy ones? Good for you for getting right back on the horse.
Each day is getting better than the one before for me (thankfully!!) and I am so glad for this forum. Seeing others walk the path and achieve their goals is so inspiring.

thenewme42 08-21-2014 02:16 PM

Am I the only one that lost 4pds. the first week!? Bomber!!!!! I did everything right! I did not cheat at all! I will not give up just a little bombed out! And the place I go to is NO help! I had questions that they could not even answer. This program is too expensive for them not to know the answers to simple questions. I'm new at this...they sale the products but she was asking me questions. I asked her if sugar free gum was okay. She stated...WELL, IT SHOULD...I THINK...AREN’T YOU ALLOWED TO HAVE SWEETENERS?....omgomgomggggggggesssh! She could not answer any of the questions I had writen down. I'm try looking for another clinic if this happens on my second weigh-in, which is next weds.

Weight loss is so completely subjective but it is so so hard not to compare...
Keep in mind that how much we lose the first week will depend on starting weight, how we were eating prior to the program and our own body's rhythms (some want to let it all go at once, some want to hold on for dear life).
In response to the gum issue... The only commercial brand I know we can have is the Dentyne Fire (cinnamon) and the xylitol gums which are not as widely available but can be found in most whole / natural foods stores.
A big congrats on the ticker!!!
shelby- thanks for the quote. I'm glad that this forum is as active as it is because it really does help just like you said :)

thenewme42 08-21-2014 08:52 PM

I hope someone can help me with these questions

I have a few questions that could not be answered at the clinic I go to for my IP items.
Is turkey sausage, home made salsa (using the allowed veggies), and tomatoe sauce, allowed on Phase 1?:?:

RefreshingMe 08-22-2014 12:05 AM

newme- you can have the turkey sausage if it has no carbohydrates in it. If it has has nitrates it should be avoided or at least extremely limited. The homemade salsa should be fine because you know all the veggies that went into it but it will have to count against your veggie intake. The tomato sauce is the same... If it's homemade and only uses compliant veggies with no added sugar ( unless it's Splenda or stevia)... Keep in mind tomatoes are a limited veg and only to be had a max of two times per week.
Hope this helps...

Ariel13 08-22-2014 01:01 AM

RefreshingMe- Thank you! I'm so happy (even more for the inches that are gone, gone gone!) So, your daughter is a Pisces! She's a sweet and dreamer mermaid ;)
byugrl-Congrats on your weight losses! :carrot:
Iron Woman- :bravo: Great job on losing 3 lbs AND 9 in. Good luck this week, please let us know how your 3rd WI goes! I'm happy you're reading the book! I started today and so far I like it..I think I will buy it to have it in my collection. :carrot:
Lose2Win and Ruth Ann- I hear ya! well, 'read' ya, I am also in "cleaning mode" and I'm liking it! :carrot:
Shelby and RefreshingMe- Thanks ladies for the quotes, they are very encouraging and motivating!

thenewme- :congrat: On losing 4 lbs.!! Remember a loss is a loss, you should be very proud of yourself! :D I lost 11 lbs the first week, but I started at 258lbs. and my eating habits were VERY, VERY bad. Make sure to have your salt, oil and supplements, and stay 100% OP! :carrot:

I'm sorry your coach is not much help! That can be so frustrating, but thankfully there's this forum with people who are very knowledgeable and eager to help! I'm so glad I have a great coach, she also lost weight with IP diet, and if she doesn't know something, she makes sure to find out and let me know.

You asked about the gum, she gave me a couple of brands, but I don't have it handy, I will post them tomorrow, but since I don't like chewing gum, she said I could have the Listerine Spray or the Listerine Strips. If you have any questions, you know you can get help here! :carrot:

canadjineh 08-22-2014 01:13 AM

The gum in question is called "Spry", I haven't tried it as I am not supposed to chew gum due to TMJ problems, but I've seen it in my local health food stores.

Walden Farms 0cal, 0carb, 0fat products are ok and they have basil tomatoe sauce, and others.

Still trying to get my head around this diet. But at 100% adherence and doing good. lost 8 pounds at my first weigh in. I've had no cravings to cheat which is amazing to me since I have a 4 year old who eats and snacks all day long.

My husband is also doing the diet with me, and he had a set back. He has occasional atrial fibrillation, and on day 7 his heart went into crazy arrhythmia . His cardiologist wants him to continue on the diet but to not take the potassium supplements because they can trigger arrhythmia. We'll see what happens. At least his cardiologist is supportive, but I'm a nervous wreck.

NSV, fit into shorts I hadn't worn for 4 years, and not only could I get them on, I could do squats in them. This amazes me as I worked out with a trainer from February to July and only lost 12 pounds and didn't go down a pants size. One week on this and my bum is already significantly smaller. Yeah!

Congrats to everyone keeping on this journey.

Ariel I started out on the program weighing 258pds. However, before getting on the program I was 263! I'm over being bombed about the 4pd loose due to all the support from you guys. I so love this forum:D! It is so helpful and supportive. I bought the ketostix after that 4pd weight loss. I wanted to make sure I was in Ketosis...I was! I will just be happy for the 4pds.
I did not even think of Listerine spray or the strips. This is great! Thanks for all the information! This forum gives me hope!
:thanks:

thenewme42 08-22-2014 10:30 PM

This week I find myself being overly full before finishing all of the required meals. Tonight I could not eat dinner at all. I was still full from my Chocolate drink mix I had for a snack. I know this is due to me eating a late breakfast and lunch. Is skipping a meal detrimental?

Ariel13 08-22-2014 11:29 PM

thenewme- We both started IP diet with the same weight! I'm very glad you're happy with the weight loss you've achieved :) I'm also glad that you like this forum and that we can somehow help you, and I LOVE this forum too because I can feel the support from everyone :grouphug:
Besides the Listerine strips and spray (I bought me the strips because like I mentioned earlier, I don't like chewing gum) these are the gums my coach told me I could buy: Trident Cinnamon, Dentine Fire, PUR.

I also get full and I don't think I can finish everything, but I do. This week I've been so busy, that I've had breakfast at 10ish and lunch at around 6pm and then I have my dinner a couple of hours later and then like an hour later I'll have my snack... I think it is important to eat everything, not sure, but I eat everything I'm supposed to eat because I want to do it 100% I just cut down on lettuce or don't add lettuce, I'll just have my cups of veggies.

Question, how much water are you drinking? :carrot:

I had that issue a few weeks in too.....I now don't do a drink for snack if it is close to dinner, I find especially the ready to drink ones very filling. Try doing a bar or like the orange or peach mango drink which is not a thick and Filling as chocolate. Also a pudding or jelly would be not as filling.

Remember, carbs aren't the only thing we're looking at on IP. We need the correct amount of protein, plus we're also looking at fat & calories.
Most sausages, by the time you get an equivalent amount of protein to meats that ARE listed on the p1 sheet, will have too much fat.

For example:
8 oz lean ground beef has
398 cals
23 g fat
45 g protein
0 carbs

8 oz Echrich Turkey polish sausage has
440 calories
52 g. fat
32 g protein (not enough!)
16 g. carbs.

In contrast, one honeysuckle brand turkey brat (a lower carb option) is not an IP protein serving.
to have 8 oz of honeysuckle turkey brat, you'd have to eat about 2.5 brats.
Those 2.5 brats would have
450 calories,
23 fat
45 protein (same as the burger)
3 carbs

All these examples make the brat choices higher in fat or cals. If I were choosing a sausage, it would probably be the honeysuckle brand turkey brat, but I'd know I'd need to balance with a much lower fat day the day before or the day after. This is probably why processed meats are not on the P1 sheet. Too many fillers and additives.

It really takes research to find the right processed meats to eat. Easier to stay with the whole ones.

New research is showing nitrates aren't as damaging as they've been made out to be from some older, flawed studies.

RefreshingMe 08-23-2014 10:17 AM

newme- don't skip a meal!! We are already on very low calories and it's vital to our weightloss that our bodies receive a consistent amount each day. Ketosis is wonderful for taking away the gnawing hunger that accompanies most other diets but your body still needs calories to keep itself going and to burn away the fat! You could try blending your veggies into your shakes- the chocolate drink with spinach is a favorite of mine. As well lighter proteins such as eggs and fish are sometimes easier to get down. If it's still too much try breaking up your protein- eg 3 oz with lunch and 5 oz with dinner. And don't forget your oil- it 'lubes' the digestive track and makes 'processing' everything that much simpler.
I drink roughly a 100 oz of water per day.
ariel- many of the most successful IPers in this forum are teachers! Maile, Lisa are two that can be found in Maintenance right now and I know there are many others. You are doing so well at remaining focused during such a busy time!
lisa- thank you for your input. It does seem that following the rule of 0 carbohydrates in regards to protein is the simplest and indeed the only way in Phase 1.

I took my brood out to Fort Edmonton yesterday. It is a historical park with a steam train and heritage homes that you can look around in. Lots of walking and it was great to enjoy a nice summer day. I brought a red pepper and celery sticks to have with my Southwest Cheese curls and found this along with a ton if water to be ample sustenance.
Made the mock Shepherds Pie I found on one of the IP centers sites last night. It was mashed cauliflower blended with a chosen IP soup (I used the Broccoli Cheddar) this tops a ground turkey and tomato mixture and is then baked in the oven. Even the kids liked this one. Yay!!

Started last Sunday - lost 5 pounds

Hello everyone! I'm so happy to be here!
I lost 5 pounds since last Sunday - I joined last Saturday and decided to make Fridays my weigh in days so I weighed in early for my first week.

It feels so good to get the ball rolling in this way. This is the first diet I've ever been on where I didn't cheat in some way. I feel really proud that I'm doing it.

So since August 7th (my start date) I've lost a total of 11 pounds!!!

Sgrealtor- Grats on reaching your first mini goal!! I'm so proud of you!

lisa- I hope you're doing better and things are going back to normal, and thank you for helping us newbies with our questions/concerns we have about what we can eat if we want to stay 100% OP. :carrot:

RefreshingMe- Yum, yum! That pie sounds delicious and Fort Edmonton dreamy! Obviously, you did a great job getting prepared to stick to the diet, and having fun with your family! (Did you get the recipe from this forum?) I always thought I needed food to have a good time with my friends and family! Thank you for your kind and encouraging words  I will feel more in control once I settle down to my new routine! :carrot:

Newsluv- :welcome3: and :congrat: on your weight loss!! Please continue coming to share your journey with us! WE CAN DO THIS!!! :carrot:

Shelby- :congrat: on your loss, you're doing a great job!! :carrot:

***So, today I had my usual breakfast, I am totally hooked on Double Chocolate Brownie and my cup of coffee :coffee: and I was surprised that I FINISHED the entire bar in one seating! I usually get full with half or 3/4 of the bar, and finish it at a later time, but not today :?: Is my stomach getting bigger?! First time in 10 days that I can finish the entire brownie in one seating!
Also, I was reading the Nutrition Facts chart, and I was in shocked :fr: to learn how many carbs my favorite IP food contains! This is a restricted item, so I have it once a day, but maybe now I'll have it every other day because it has 25g of total carbs!!!!!!! :nono: and 15g of protein. WOW! No wonder this Double Chocolate Brownie tastes so, so, so, good!! Why are these high carb products available in IP? I'm addicted to these, now I'm going to have to withdrawal from the IP Double Chocolate Brownies :( ****

Does the bar have any dietary fiber in it or sugar alcohols? You subtract those from the total carbs

They actually are not "high" carb. They are perfectly designed as a once/day restricted on IP. 10 g of those carbs are fiber so it really only has 15 net g carbs. 15 g of protein is the perfect amt for a packet on IP.

In contrast, 1 hostess cupcake has 180 calories and 29 net grams of carbs. It only has 2 G protein and tons of sugar!

Keep doing what you're doing. There is nothing to change. IP works!!!

I'm in my first week! Liking the program so far. Definitely learning which products I do and don't like. Stocked up on some WF products... Do y'all usually limit how much of that you use a day? I'm finding taking all the pills a little harder than sticking to the diet, but I'm a baby about pills anyway I guess lol. Glad to find this group!
