They actually are not "high" carb. They are perfectly designed as a once/day restricted on IP. 10 g of those carbs are fiber so it really only has 15 net g carbs. 15 g of protein is the perfect amt for a packet on IP.

In contrast, 1 hostess cupcake has 180 calories and 29 net grams of carbs. It only has 2 G protein and tons of sugar!

Keep doing what you're doing. There is nothing to change. IP works!!!

Thanks Shelby and lisa! I now will be able to continue to enjoy my Double Chocolate Brownie and cup of coffee :D You girls are awesome!!:carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot::carrot: So, to find out the total net carbs, do I subtract the protein and the Dietary Fiber from the Total Carbs? ;)

Not protein. It is a separate nutrient.
You subtract fiber from total carbs. Some people also subtract sugar alcohols. I don't.

I'm finding taking all the pills a little harder than sticking to the diet, but I'm a baby about pills anyway I guess lol. Glad to find this group!

:welcome2: again TXWineo ;) This is my second week doing IP diet. I come here everyday and everyone here has been of great help. You should try to come by to get support and ask questions you might have. This is a great forum. :carrot: I have not tried the WF products. Sorry, I can't help you with that, but I'm sure you'll get your answer soon :) The pills, you'll get used to it, or you can probably break them in pieces or crush them and drink them with water?

Thanks! I will now do that with every item, I would always only look at the total carbs. YAY! I'm so happy, I can continue enjoying my Double Chocolate Brownie, it is like my daily reward! :carrot::carrot:

On IP, you don't have to track every little thing. Just eat according to the P1 sheet and you're good-to-go

August 5 Starter

W1 WI (Aug 12): 7.7lbs
W2 WI (Aug 19): 3.7lbs
W3 WI (Aug 26): TBD!!

100% on plan... Except yesterday when I went to a golf tournament and ate a baked potato. Hoping it doesn't affect my week much! :(

Happy with the program so far, and the variety of food.

Congrats on the losses shelby, whirlygirlyand newsluv!
ariel- I've been trying hard to involve my family in a healthy eating plan with me in the hopes that after I'm finished with Phase 1 we'll all be eating healthfully.
I got the recipe from here http://nutritionw.com/ideal-protein-recipes/
I'm so happy for you about the brownie... Obviously you and the brownie have some good mojo going- your weigh in proved it!

finale 08-23-2014 09:46 PM

Thanks for this blog am restarting this IP on Monday and look forward to the inspiration and support from all the fellow IPers

Thanks for the warm welcome and congrats. I don't get much chance to come onto the forum, but will try to make a weekly appearance. I look forward to sharing all of our successes, August Starters! :)

whirlygirly we were writing at the same time... Post when you can- the support and camaraderie to be had on the forum is good for all of us. We're all in the same boat... It can help knowing that others are journeying with you...

Restarting and optimistic

I just restarted on Friday. Tried IP back in, I think, 2011. I didn't stick to it but I told everyone at work and they all went on it and look fabulous.

Is there a list of which foods are restricted and which aren't?

Lose2Win2014 08-24-2014 02:17 PM

Wow! I've been gone a couple of days and there are so many new August starters! Welcome! Glad you are starting on the plan with us! I am not a group counseling person, but this group is a wealth of information and so full of people who understand what you are going through. It has made this diet so much easier for me.

My last child left for college this weekend. It is just breaking my heart. Yes, he is doing what he is supposed to be doing, but wow, I am going to miss him. It is funny, but this diet is actually helping me through it.

I'm hoping for a good 100% week for everyone!

I had questions that they could not even answer. This program is too expensive for them not to know the answers to simple questions. I'm new at this...they sale the products but she was asking me questions. I asked her if sugar free gum was okay. She stated...WELL, IT SHOULD...I THINK...AREN’T YOU ALLOWED TO HAVE SWEETENERS?....omgomgomggggggggesssh! She could not answer any of the questions I had writen down. I'm try looking for another clinic if this happens on my second weigh-in, which is next weds.

Hi TheNewMe,
I hope that you won't let a coach who doesn't have good answers stand in the way of your ultimate goal. I know it is disappointing to not leave with adequate answers to your questions. I hope you will use the vast knowledge that is available on this forum.

My coach is very sweet. She is a nursing student, but she is so incredibly skinny it is hard to believe that she could gain weight even if she wanted. While I am sure that she learns as much about the program as she can, she doesn't have the personal experience with the program or probably the drive to learn about the program like many of the people on this forum. I am learning to appreciate her for what she offers and to ignore the things which she tells me that are wrong. Example, she has told me that the Crisps are restricted, but all the IP papers say they aren't.

I hope you will continue on in spite of a not so perfect coach.

Lberated,
This is exactly what I have been reading. It seems that exercise is great for maintaining weight, but diet is more important for losing. Congrats on your NSV! It's awesome to fit into small clothing. :carrot:

Newsluv 08-24-2014 03:10 PM

Thank you for the warm welcome Ariel! I feel really great today, (my 7th day) and for the first time in a long time I feel in control. This group has been a great help too!

I was wondering - is dried seaweed ok? It has 1 gram of carb and 1 gram of protein in each package. It is technically a veggie I guess, so would it constitute our 2 cups of select veggies?

RefreshingMe 08-24-2014 10:01 PM

jackiegee:welcome2: back! Good luck with the restart. Keep us posted!
lose2win- I am sad for you. Such a bittersweet time. You've done your part ( and a good job of it too if he's off to college!) but you are losing your baby. My eldest is 9 but it was the fastest 9 years felt like I blinked and ended up here. And I know that when I blink again she'll be 18. Trying really hard to enjoy my kids while they're young even though it's such a busy time.
At least with starting IP you're giving yourself something positive to focus on- good for you!
newsluv- is your weigh in tomorrow?? It's the same day as mine if so! I'm excited and nervous...
Had a good day today. Took the kids to the botanical gardens which were beautiful and such a nice way to spend a sunny day. Lots if walking and fresh air really helps with alleviating focusing on food.

floridabamaboy 08-24-2014 10:17 PM

Hello everyone.. I just started IP on Aug 20th 2014. My first three days was rough but I had some great energy today. I'm large frame 6'4" guy that normally walks around around 220lbs. I allowed myself to get up to 278 and I felt HORRIBLE. I had moved from a 36" waist jeans to a screaming button on my 38"s. I started atikins and lost 20lbs but then plateau'd hard. A friend of mine came to see me that I hadn't seen since May and he looked AMAZING. He started explaining the IP program to me and that he has lost 54lbs. The next day I set up an appointment with his (our) coach and I'm ON board 100%.
My only problem is that my coach is a smaller business and doesn't carry a large selection. She is the only dealer around my area that sells IP so I've been trying to find alternate items that meet the IP requirements. Any help on this would be great. I LOVE the pre-made shakes and puddings as I very seldom have time to make breakfast and lunch...

Thanks so much and I look forward to sharing my weightloss with you all. Just remember, "nothing taste as good as being fit feels". Unknown

bolt 08-24-2014 11:05 PM

I restarted on August 18. I did the plan 2 years ago but gained my weight back. I don't have my next weight in until Thursday due to my schedule. So far I have lost 6 pounds and sticking to it 100%. I love reading the posts on this forum. I especially love the recipes

Kim

Iron Woman 08-24-2014 11:29 PM

Welcome bolt! You can do it!

RefreshingMe 08-24-2014 11:33 PM

bolt- :welcome: back to you as well! Do you and Jackie know one another? Seems you would have been in here around the same time? Do you have anything in particular that you'll do differently when you hit maintenance this time? You're to be commended for attacking it though... As long as we don't give up we haven't failed, right??
floridabama- :welcome2: to you also! This program has done wonders for many and it seems to work exceptionally well for men ( you tend to have a higher rate if loss per week). Your attitude is great! Being 100% OP tends to make things happen more quickly also. Check out the thread "home of the 100%"...as well as the "using alternatives" thread for more info on what products would suit your needs and best follow IP's nutritional standard...
ironwoman- how are things going for you??

nishita 08-24-2014 11:41 PM

I'm starting today. Determined to lose 23 kgs and maintain.

I'd lost 20 kgs in 2010-11 and have put 14 of them back. Been inactive since a mini stroke last year and been eating all wrong from 6 months.

canadjineh 08-25-2014 12:02 AM

Hi Nishita: Do you eat Indian style foods or English style foods? Just asking, because there are a few of us on here who love Indian food and work on making it fit IP. :chef: If you need help message me or ask in the daily chat (I'm usually on there every day). It can be hard in P1 but gets better and is entirely doable on maintenance.

Liana

Hi! Because I started on a Sunday, I had my first weigh in last Friday and I was down 5 pounds. My first full 7 day weigh in will be this coming Friday. How did you do?

There is a link in the boiler plate posted on the daily thread that has every current phase sheet in it. It is in one of the first several paragraphs. Welcome back and good luck!

2bskinnyagain 08-25-2014 06:36 PM

Hi, I started on IP on 8/7. I've had two weigh in's... my third is tomorrow. But so far I'm down about 10lbs. I'm super excited to be on this diet and hoping that I can stick with it for the long haul!

RefreshingMe 08-25-2014 06:37 PM

How is it going Lose2Win and Iron Woman? I'm glad to read from you!
Welcome everyone :carrot: I'm glad to see so many of us, our group is getting bigger! :D
floridabamaboy- You can find information in this forum, there are threads about alternative products. :carrot:
bolt- :bravo: on your 6 lb. loss and sticking to it is the right way!! :D:D
newsluv- :congrat: on your loss and good luck this week! :carrot::carrot:
RefreshingMe -:woohoo: Congratulations on your loss! I'm nervous about mine on Wednesday, I just don't "feel" that I've lost weight or volume this week, I'll find out on Wednesday, and I'll report! I'm very proud of you!

I wish everyone a GREAT week with no cheats, always staying 100% OP because we are worth it, and we deserve to be healthy for ourselves and loved ones, and we also deserve to feel better about ourselves and look better! Please don't give up, stay strong and focused on the prize! :dust:

Iron Woman 08-26-2014 01:47 AM

:congrats: ironwoman on the loss! 3.6 is awesome for the third week in!

I made a roast chicken in my crock pot today. It was a mix of seasonings rubbed into the chicken and then stuffed it with lemon and garlic. I put it on a bed of celery and baby portabellas. It was super yummy. Everyone including the kids attacked it (yay!!). I saved the broth to use for a soup.
This weekend has me scared a bit. Not that I won't stay OP but I do hate having to explain why I'm eating this and not that and why I won't have a drink, not even a glass of wine. Sometimes it's hard enough saying no to myself let alone having to say it multitudes of times to others. We're going camping with friends and I know this is what I'm in store for a bit...
And my well meaning Italian MIL is set to land on my door step Thursday. I hate saying no to her food. It makes me feel mean. But I know it's better for me to feel mean for a couple days than miserable forever because I'm always giving in...

That's one of the hard parts for me as well, "Explaining My Actions." I have family asking why I can't have certain veggies, then I have to explain that I can't have them due to my P1. It's annoying to say the least!

Daisyy 08-27-2014 10:42 PM

Hello all, I began Ideal Protein today and feeling highly encouraged by the help and success on this thread!

Lose2Win2014 I'm on my 2nd year as an empty nester with a heart on the mend, too, and I know what you mean about the diet helping you! I ended up rediscovering some old hobbies, interests, and now better health. It's good to have a focus while they are away and so great when they come home. Thankfully, that has been more often than I thought. Hoping the same for you and much success with IP!

RefreshingMe 08-28-2014 12:28 AM

:welcome2: daisy
Thanks shelby for the commiseration...
ariel- how was the WI??
I made turkey burgers (no bun for me) and turnip fries tonight. I had bought ketchup from my coach and as I was eating it I realized it has a 1 carb per serving?! I am going to have to question her about this next time... As I was under the impression unless it's 0/0/0 it can't be had...

Thanks, Daisyy and Welcome! I'm still struggling, but doing better than the first couple of days. It helps that he is doing well and loving it. What more could I ask for?

I hope the first few weeks on the diet are as easy as they have been for me. I really love this diet and feel like I am creating new patterns that I can use to be successful after I reach my goal.

How are you this week?

JackieGee 08-28-2014 09:35 AM
