Ideas for a veggie dip?

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can use for a veggie dip. Something similar to like a ranch dip or something creamy at least?

You should try Mockamole - recipe shared by Lisa -- we were just discussing these recipes on another thread, so I am sharing them here:

Quote:

Asparagus Guacamole
2 bags of steam in bag asparagus
1 lime (or 3 packets of true lime)

1/2-1 bunch of cilantro, finely chopped
2-3 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 small to medium tomato, chopped (optional)
Salt, cumin powder, cayenne pepper (or Jalapeno) to taste

Steam asparagus in bags, overcook a little
cut in 1 in pieces, drain on papertowels, squeeze dry and let cool

Put asparagus in blender with lime juice, cilantro, garlic and tomato and give it a whirl.
Season to taste and chill

Treat asparagus just as you would avocado.
You hardly can tell the difference and it fits into all IP phases!!!
Or try Lisa's recipe for cauliflower hummus -- .

After numerous requests, here is a Cauliflower Hummus recipe from this Blog: unlimitedlettuce.com (giving due credit).

I use my stick (immersion) blender instead of food processor or blender and one of the spices I like in mine is lots of cumin, which is often a flavor in hummus. Anyway, here is the recipe

Cauliflower "Hummus" Dip
1 head of cauliflower, chopped (I used an extra head already roasted from the night before)
Chicken stock
Juice of half a lemon, or more to taste
2 tsp. olive oil
1 tbsp Roasted garlic (raw is fine if that's what you have)
Salt and pepper to taste
Spices to taste (I often use Za'atar, sumac, hot sauce)
Fresh herbs to taste

If your cauliflower is raw, put in a pan with about 1/2 cup of the chicken stock. Bring to a boil, and then simmer covered until the cauliflower is very tender. Allow to cool.

Into a blender or food processor, add the cauliflower, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, and some salt and pepper. If you like, add in spices and/or some fresh herbs -- rosemary would be tasty, for example, as would some hot chilis. I really like za'atar and sumac, which are middle eastern spices.
Add in just enough chicken stock to allow the processor/blender to move freely. Whip up until it's a very smooth puree. Taste and adjust spices. When serving later, retaste and adjust spices as needed. I added a touch more salt and a little more garlic.
I asked about serving quantity - Lisa measures the raw veggie to determine how much to have as a serving once the dip is prepared.

Personally, I use the IP soups with my lunchtime veggies.... they are usually steamed or grilled veggies rather than raw, so I am glad to have some warm leek or chicken or mushroom soup with them.... I hope these are something close to what you are looking for -- another source for dip ideas might be the veggie purees -- check the first Sticky Thread in the Ideal Protein forum, or check Lisa's opening posting each day in the Daily Threads -- among the links she includes is one for puree's, and several other recipe threads with all manner of dishes.

I am used to eating eggs and toast or tuna and crackers or.....I am such a texture person and it's hard and I have tried to get over it but the ole taste buds just don't cooperate. What I wouldn't give for some coffee creamer too lol. Black, we'll not so great yet. Go for next weigh in in Wednesday...fingers crossed. Good luck and stay strong. Congrats too all you guys doing so well. Hang in.

For the coffee -- I love cream in my coffee and I'm sorry I cannot have it on IP but instead I use the IP Vanilla Ready to Drink (RTD) or the Cappuccino flavor to lighten my coffee. It's very good. And I find I can get a Pike Place Grande at Starbucks, and then pour half into a large cup and lighten with the RTD, sip on that until it's gone and then go for the other half... I can sip my way thru the entire morning. Thru the summer heat, I have been getting 2 shots of espresso in a Venti cup with ice, then I add my RTD to make this really yummy iced coffee experience -- I think it's delish! (Please note that to stay on program, more than a cup of coffee requires an equal amount of water added to your regular daily 64 oz of water).

HI all,
I am returning to IP after a few years. I was on the plan in 2011 and did really well-I kept the weight off, but had tried to go on, using alternatives and it didn't work well for me. I need the accountability of weighing in. Anyways, I just had a baby 3 1/2 months ago and need to get a lot of baby weight off. I am excited because I know the plan works if I stay strict! I am wondering how much the food costs now a days? I'm just trying to budget for this...I think it was like $60-70 a week back then...anyways, thanks for taking the time to read this!

Except for the Ready to Drink items (6 to a package at $30), a box of 7 servings of the drinks, soups, bars, chips, wafers, etc., runs $28. My first visit including supplements (which are not cheap), and 10 days of food, ran just under $300 I think.

Just food for a week (3 packets X 7 days = 21) can be as little as $84, though you may want more variety, and therefore get a few more boxes to start with and then in future weeks you can just pick up 3 a week to maintain your supply and variety.

This forum has a lot of good criteria for selecting alternatives, and tips for making it work. That's definitely a less expensive way to go.

Hello newbie here .... Think this is a great getaway to drop stress off, and leave it here when you start feeling weak for sweets :). Mind over matter I am stronger then I think. Whats a few months on a strict plan, verses a life time of pain in the limbs from too much weight and risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, diabetes whatever negatives obesity brings its worth a shot at just a few months trying to get healthy verses a life time of not trying at all so on that note >>>>>>week 2 as of yesterday 9/15/14 on the IP ... SW 186.8 DAY 9/7/14 CW 177.6 AS OF 9/15/14. CURRENTLY ON DAY 2 OF WEEK 2 ON 100% IP.

Need a Little Help...

Just wondering, the 8 oz of meat for dinner...is that the weight before or after cooking? Same with the veggies...is it 2 cups raw or cooked? Bought a couple bunches of kale today and I know that if I measure out 2 cups of it raw, it's going to be just a couple mouthfuls once it's cooked.

I'm finding it so very hard to get through the 8 oz meat portions for dinner. Then having to eat 2 cups of veggies too is just killing me. I'm stuffing myself then feeling nauseous afterwards for eating so much. The last couple of years I've taught myself to only eat a card deck size of meat. Which I guess is only about 3 or 4 oz. And there's no way in heck I'd be able to eat a salad on top of that. Luckily my coach said due to me having IBS, it's ok to forego the salads..thank Goodness. How do you all eat all this food? I think if I were to eat 4 oz of meat and 1 cup of veggies I'd be fine. But will doing so defeat the purpose? I've never really been a "big" eater..my weight issues come from just not eating the right foods. I'm such a huge carboholic. Or maybe I should say I was...until I started on IP 5 days ago.

Feeling a little overwhelmed and a bit confused. Hopefully one of you pros can give me some words of wisdom. On a lighter note, literally (lol), these 5 days have shown a 6.7 lb drop on my home scales. Going for my first official weigh in tomorrow. Just praying that tomorrow isn't the day that my weight decides to fluctuate and I'm weighed in with only a couple lb. loss.

You weigh everything before cooking
If it's too much at once, you can split your protein. Ex, 4oz at lunch, 4 at dinner

lisa32989 09-18-2014 06:53 AM

Hi miss andi

First, welcome
Second, I suggest asking questions in the daily chat. This is where you'll make your connections to the rest of the community & find the support you need

Now, about your dilemma

Everything is measured raw. And that would mean the kale will cook down to a very small amount, but that is just what you want since you are troubled with too much food. Try splitting your protein and having half at lunch. You'd still need all 3 packets throughout the day but you can have rhem as snacks. The lighter, lower calorie clearer drinks arent as filling. And (lettuce) salads are unlimited but totally optional.

First Official Weigh In...

Well I was right, today was the day my weight fluctuated. I was at a 6 lb. loss on my home scales this morning (.7 of a lb. increase from yesterday). Tonight at my first official weigh in at IP I had lost exactly that..6 lbs. Still very pleased with that loss though. That means 6 lbs. in 6 days...WootWoot!

miako4 09-21-2014 10:40 PM

Hi I didnt introduce myself here(I wrote at the forum entry)I start IP last week so far 4 pounds I lost. Weekend is the hardest time for me. And today I am feeling totally dead.
Seriously thinking to switch alternative. Any advise??

Briael 09-22-2014 01:30 AM

miako4 Give it another couple of days until your body settles into the routine. Many of us had issues with exhaustion, headaches, poor digestion, lack of BM, feeling sluggish and aching muscles in that first 10 days. It will pass. Make sure you drink all your water and have all your vegetable portions. These are important.

Lots of alternatives out there, but you should check whether you will invalidate your contract with the IP coach before you go down that path. Nothing worse than having put out $300 and be told that you aren't compliant with the plan and they won't see you anymore.

If your coach is ok with it, then check out the Alternatives threads on the main Ideal Protein board. Lots and lots of threads to read through, and there's a wealth of experience from veterans who stuck around. :)

Thank you Briael last few days I am tired and my weight didnt budge. It is not helping psychologically. But I decide not to give up.

Not so fat anymore 09-22-2014 12:30 PM

Just want to say hi

I have lost almost 77 pounds since starting IP in Feb. 27,2014 It has been 30 weeks and I can not commit to a goal weight I am 5 foot 1 inch and 64 years old. I am very afraid of leaving phase one. I am also afraid of trying to maintain a goal that is too low. I started at 217.6 and am now 139.8. My range is 132 -101. Should I start phase 2 at 132 and see what happens or hold out for the 120?
