Good Morning Lisa & IP'ers:

I was wondering if you would be able to help me - I am visiting my Family this weekend in CT and then head to NYC for an overnight Sat/Sun. I am not so much nervous about the stay with my family as much as NYC.

This will be my first road trip on program and I wanted to ask for some best tips and practices in order to be the best prepared IP'er I can be.

I will be staying at a friends place in Manhattan - celebrating her husband's 40th Birthday Saturday evening. I'm not sure what restaurant so I can't look it up however, I can ask in advance (I suppose I should).

I definitely do NOT want to stray off plan, I don't want to drink (not even one, it's not worth it) and I REALLY don't want to eat out for fear of sugars sneaking into my food. But, let's be honest, I'm sure I'll be faced with this stuff so I want to be armed with knowledge - how do I best direct the waiter/waitress when I do go to a restaurant? How do I best prepare - do I travel on the train with a cooler filled with IP friendly veggies, my shakes and one restricted item?

*Please let me know if I should be directing this elsewhere. But, if I can have at least one tip left from folks, I would be most appreciative. I'll check back tonight after work.

Thank you in advance lovely peeps and have a superb day everyone!

I don't think restaurants are tht bad. I am very specific, steak, leanest cut available, with NOTHING on it, absolutely plain and steamed veggies the same way. I also order a salad and bring my own dressing. You can do this and if all else fails eat a salad and have a packet, or 2, after. Good luck and have fun

Good Morning KareVT! I'll leave the guidance to those with more experience, but just wanted to say it's awesome that you are pre-planning and have obviously made a strong commitment to staying OP during your visit to NYC! Hope you DON'T eat at a chain restaurant and instead visit one of the great NYC restaurants! One thing about non-chains is that things typically aren't 'pre-made' in any way (like more mass-produced types of meals at chains that have to conform to strict uniform standards), so you can make specific requests when you order, ask for the specific ingredients, etc. Good Luck and HAVE FUN! For your drink, how about a sparkling water, and ask for a wine glass so you feel more festive and can feel more a part of the birthday toasts!

Also wanted to mention, now that you have your ticker, the visual made it more noticeable how GREAT you are doing with your weight loss! Wow! Great job!

One more thing - I posted on other threads as well and promise I will stop now - but I urge all of you to check out a book - "Refuse to Regain" by Barbara Berkeley, MD. It is AWESOME! Read it yesterday, cover to cover. Though it was written with strategies for maintenance in mind (and never too early to think of that!), it includes very motivating and useful tips for the weight loss journey itself as well! I think you will find it worthwhile.

Have a great Monday, all!!

Have a blast KareV! Just be specific when you order..NYC should be perfect place to stay OP...They are used to getting all kinds of requests with people coming from EVERYWHERE and the kitchen staff and servers don't blink, when someone has a few specifics.

Grilled meats fish and fresh veggies ... and salads...real easy. You will enjoy (deserve) not having to cook and getting a great meal days in a row!

Good morning, all!! Hope everyone has a great week. Have the house to myself this week since my husband is gone for work, and I took my dogs to my parents for the week since I work long hours, it is too long to leave them without my husband coming home on his lunch break to let them out.

I went to my parents for the weekend and went to a craft store my moms friend owns, whom I haven't seen since I started IP and she really noticed a difference! It's nice to know that other people can see it, when those who see you daily don't notice the change as much.

Happy Monday all! Got some Broccoli cheese 'bread' in the oven and it's going to put me completely behind schedule this morning but oh well! My daughter goes to a private school about 20 mins away from the house and they are doing road work right by her school it makes traffic even more of a beast, so I'm behind schedule already. Thankfully my job is pretty forgiving especially on a Monday after a crazy weekend.

Hope everyone has a great OP day!

Morning everyone .. it's been awhile since I've been here. Have had some health issues that I had to deal with that have derailed my IP. I'm really disappointed with myself because I learned that I really didn't learn anything from this new way of eating .. that when push came to shove, I went right back to food. I guess I really need to work on that. I was down over 50 pounds and I've put about 15 back on ... I can really REALLY feel it too. I comforted myself with lots of carbs, sugar and craptastic food. Yesterday I cooked up chicken and portioned it out and froze it so there's no excuse not to eat on plan this week. Not looking forward to the next 3 or 4 days and getting back into ketosis but feeling the way I do right now is just not acceptable. Hope you all are well!
