Good morning everyone!

Started the day with Six week Six Pack by Jillian Michael's.

Seeing some wrinkly skin on the thighs, hoping workouts and time will smooth things out.

Trina M 02-19-2013 07:21 AM

Good morning everyone. Well had a busy weekend getting ready for our holiday. I only have to clean a couple things before we leave. I got all our filing done (the job that always waits for me) and coked some meals for my son to take back to lethbridge with him.

I don't go for my WI this week because we leave Thursday before they open but will WI the week after we are back. Can't wait to get away. Have a great day!

cass2ander 02-19-2013 07:40 AM

I'm back

Feel off the wagon.... But starting day two 100% op mentality! :D

Good Morning! I just joined the group this morning! I've been on the program for 3 weeks ~ WI tonight :D
So far, I've lost 8.4lbs and have found the plan pretty easy to follow & I've learned a lot from reading all of your posts ;)
The biggest question that I've had is whether or not I can run while on program. I've read a lot of the starter info on the site but can't really find much regarding running. (or really find the answer that I want to hear ~ "yes, you can still run, just have a banana before you go out" haha! I registered for 2 half marathons in March & would really love to be able to do them while on the program.
My coach said that he ran a half marathon while on Phase 1 & just had an extra packet on the days that he trained. He said that he used "gu" during the race. I don't seem to have enough energy to get out there and run on Phase 1.
Any suggestions?

I had the same thing in various places but my skin seems to be tightening up. I think sometimes it just takes awhile to catch up - especially as we get older!

I'm on day 10 at our home away from home and am down 1.7 pounds in the last week. I peeked at the scale yesterday and was thrilled with the 138.5 I saw but knew it might not hold for today's "official" WI ... Well, it did, along with another .3 of a pound! :carrot: It seems that I have to work hard for every ounce, but it is so worth it. I'm glad that I stay OP since it helps me to know that the weight eventually will come off as long as I keep doing what I'm doing. There are lots of healthy food options here, but also lots of unhealthy ones. My BIL seems to be trying to set a record for how much unhealthy stuff he can eat! I've offered to let him use my scale while he's here but he's declined. I'd hate to be in his position when he finally goes home and goes in for his doctor's appointment. He's paid a lot of money to drop 45 pounds recently, and has completely gone off program for vacation (LOTS of beer, wine, rum, mixed drinks (I was *shocked* at the carbs in a mojito!!), fried foods, breads, desserts, and just sheer quantities of anything and everything). I don't understand it but just keep my mouth shut. On the other hand, everyone else teases me unmercifully when I order my food at restaurants ("She'll have a salad with no croutons, no dressing, no tomatoes, no cheese, no carrots ... Oh, and no lettuce!") Whatever. I'm doing this for me, not for them.

Seas are still kicking up today so we're out of the water until tomorrow but we'll be diving tomorrow. Hope you all have a great day today!!

ragdoll74 02-19-2013 08:26 AM

Soooo close to goal Bubbleblower!!!! You're doing great, so don't let those comments get to you.

Everytime I eat lunch with my boss he tells me to enjoy my bowl of lettuce.:( I just smile and say thank you. Jokes on him though because I keep losing and he looks like he has regained the weight he lost last spring/summer.

meinvt 02-19-2013 08:31 AM

I'm Hungry

Wow, sounds like a beautiful vacation! That BIL of yours might be helping to keep you on track. Witnessing all that backslide should make you feel really proud of your choices . . . but make sure there is lettuce in that salad

I woke up starving today!! what's the best go-to breakfast for those hungry days? BTW - I had my first weigh in yesterday and lost 7pounds - mostly water , I know, but I'm happy!

SylviesGirl 02-19-2013 10:05 AM

Today is day 7 of week 1 -- yipppeeee! I feel better in my clothes AND in my mood! That is already worth it, but I can't deny I am excited to weigh in tomorrow. I need to work on managing my expectations, though, as in the past a disappointing weigh in knocks me for a loop.

meint -- Wishing you success with your "starving morning." Those are hard. I am so new, I am still just doing shakes and vitamins (which, btw, the vitamins are filling by the time I swallow all the water I need with them! I have a hard time with the multivit, yikes!)

ragdoll74 -- You know your boss is just jealous and is probably kicking himself inside for not doing the same. Good outlook you have.

bubbleblower -- You just hold your head up high and order the salad just the way you want it. Think of how cute Meg Ryan looked doing it in When Harry Met Sally. ;)

lovetorun3 -- Welcome! I've been around here about a week. No idea what to tell you about running, but I say "more power to you" for even feeling like you want to find a way! I know they say no activity in Phase 1, though . . . I'm sure the much-more experienced people will have insight.

cass2ander -- Welcome back atop the wagon! The view is much better from here. ;)

Trina -- Have a great holiday!

sonyainva -- Wrinkly skin beats dimpley-jiggly skin! (Which is what mine all is at this early stage), so congrats! I bet it will smooth out.

Wishing everyone a good day! :carrot:

Good morning everyone, and hello 140's!! It's been so long since I've seen you I wasn't sure if it was really you.....but 4 days in a row you've been there in my scale....:cheer2:

Good morning.
Bubbleblower - great job on vacation. Sounds like you are not tempted in the least!
Welcome to newbie.
Congrats to those close to goal a few already this morning

I had a question / looking for comments last night after ultramommy asked about her meat and didn't get response so thought I would try pasting it again here. Maybe a little too late for the east coasters....Thanks!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commenting about the meat question with a question of my own. I am pretty sure the consensus on here is to weigh meat raw. First question about that is my coach told my friend to weigh after cooked because of all the water in raw meat. Comments?

Now I do weigh out some raw, but doing stew type dishes or roasts for a family many times I weigh cooked as impossible to weigh first. Comments or experience on this? There is no way I am going to hack off a chunk of pork tenderloin and hope it's the right weight and wreck the roasting of the whole piece......

Week #3 WI Results:

down another 5 lbs, and 6 inches!!!
I feel so good and excited that I finally found a program that works for me :)

Fabulousatfifty 02-19-2013 10:26 AM

Good Morning,

As a newbie, I must say that looking at your lovely pictures and your motivational stories helps me to visualize what can be - this is a great site!
Today is day 16 and I am doing very well, however really trying to stay away from social invites - right now at least. Have a birthday party I have to go to and will order protein, veg and bring my WF dressings and have tea. Will probably have water with a lemon for my "cocktail" - that is the hardest part!

Week #1: -6#, Week #2: -3#, Week #3 weigh in this THursday! One small accomplishement - I got back into my fat jeans that I couldn't wear before IP!

Can't wait to get my counter - they look so fun!

Thanks to all of you for your insight and experience!:)

Great question - I just asked my coach last week this same questions and she said weigh everything cooked and measure veg cooked....so I have been!

I was told 8 oz RAW meat. I often make pork tenderloin. I try to get one close to a pound so that once it's cooked I can eat half and DH can have the rest. It's not perfect, but it works for me.

8 oz raw meat generally cooks down to about 6.5 ounces cooked. So that is the measurement I use when portioning out roasts.

For stews/stir fries, and dishes where the meat is cut up and mixed in, I weigh out the raw pieces and count how many pieces equal 8oz before cooking. Then I put that many pieces on my plate after cooking :)

OK good to know. I have been preweighing for the stirfry's and depending on how many portions I need out of it, have just been eyeballing. Counting would definately be more acurate.

I find it very interesting that my coach would say to weigh meatafter if there is that much of a difference.

jeffiner 02-19-2013 10:48 AM

I tried the Big Mac in a Bowl last night...it was great and very filling..I made it with turkey meat and fresh onion..yum!

The difference is usually between 1 and 1.5 oz raw vs cooked. It can differ based on the type of meat (chicken, beef and pork all cook down differently), and cooking method (roasting causes more "shrinkage" than cooking in a lot of liquid), but that's a pretty close rule of thumb.

IPdivajen 02-19-2013 11:19 AM

Definitely definitely measure raw for both meat and veg. :)

Morning, all! Hope everyone had a great weekend, especially those of us that had long weekends to enjoy!

chicagoboiler 02-19-2013 11:34 AM

I need some IP help. In 2012 I had the help of a coach, but financially for 2013, I had to go alternative. I want to start taking some strength classes at the gym and train for a 5k because it's a cause I really care about (I used to be addicted to endurance races...so I've been holding back while on this diet).

Is it right to add a protein shake before AND after the workout, or what's the suggested balance for the exercise? I just want to keep going, but add the proper nutrition. Any help is appreciated!!!

JuliaB 02-19-2013 11:40 AM

I had my week 3 weigh-in this morning.... I am down 3 lbs and 3.5 inches.

I had MAJOR carb cravings this past week and my coach and I tried to figure out why... couldn't find a diet related reason since I am 100% OP and have cut down my Mio to twice a day. I don't overuse the WF products, I sometimes don't even use it on a daily basis.

She asked if I was "cycling" and I explained to her that up until a month ago, I hadn't had a period for 8 months. I'm at the age where my body is trying to go 100% menopausal but just can't quite make it. Anyway, before I started IP, I joined a "Boot Camp" fitness program and in about week 3 of the program I started my TOM. I understand that burning fat releases estrogen, so maybe that TOM was related to the release of estrogen. (?)

So my question is... for those who aren't quite menopausal like me, have you found that IP will create PMS symptoms because of the fat burning?

Thanks in advance for your help. I don't post a lot, but I do read every word of every post on this forum and the help and motivation you all have given me is priceless!

FlooNimbus13127 02-19-2013 11:49 AM

:carrot: I'm excited to get my first delivery from Nashua Nutrition. I, too, had to go alternative for financial reasons, so I've been asking TONS of questions here to be sure I'm as OP as I can get.

I'm also going to add some time on the treadmill today, though as a brisk walk pace (as I'm not a runner.)

Love this place!

marcwell 02-19-2013 12:00 PM

Today I am going to go for a jog. Even though I am not even remotely in the mood for exercise, I am trying to get off on a new start. Please wish me luck.

ladylunk 02-19-2013 12:04 PM

Wow major light headed this morning feeling very faint. Just had a small hunk of cucumber with sea salt and going to lie down. Maybe coming down with something..dh says I am very pale he thinks blood sugar may be low...guess will see later how I feel....

You will have to listen to your body - you definitely want to add something after your exercise, but for me I found that having a slightly bigger breakfast (I would have a WLS veggie omelet with an added egg and egg white, with either spinach or mushrooms) was enough to keep me from stalling. I was also only running, averaging about 200 calories burned. You may find that you need to add something before as well if you are also strength training on the same day, but you may not need to. See if you feel extra fatigued, or if the scale totally stalls out.

What if you weigh the whole thing raw then the whole thing cooked and figure out how much of the raw meat you'd have eaten?

Hi, My coach told me that I should do an extra unrestricted packet within 15 minutes of finishing my exercising because that was when one's body craves the protein and the calories. I haven't researched very much into it past what my coach said, but I found that having a chocolate shake on the car ride home from my workout prevented me from being starving later or the next morning. That being said, my work outs were not particularly intense- usually 30 minutes on the elliptical or something long those lines.

Any one ever feel like just giving up? I am at almost 6 months and halfway to my goal, another 80 pounds to go. But today - I am just tired of it, frustrated and annoyed (at myself). After 6 months I should know that Crystal light is a no-no. So why did I think last week it was ok to drink it all week?

Needless to say, my weight loss stopped this week and I went up a pound.

I am so tired of dieting. But at 199 - I still have to lose another 80 pounds.

What do you do to keep yourself going?

 Sorry you are going through this.

I don't have an answer for you, but watching Biggest Loser last night, something rang true to me. One of the contestants admitted that she self-sabotages because she is afraid of trying her hardest and then failing. I know I have done that in the past -- I lose up to 70 lbs--white knuckling it all the way--and then get tired of fighting. And I find myself thinking, "Why do I work so hard when it doesn't matter anyway? Even if I get to my goal by trying my hardest, I'll slip up and gain it all back. It's not worth it." It's much easier to fail because I chose to quit rather than risking giving it my all and failing anyway. Of course, that line of thinking has kept me from ever succeeding and has guaranteed my failure.

Are you have a similar internal dialogue? A little Crystal Light mistake isn't the end of the world. That pound isn't fat, and it'll come off if you get back OP. What are you afraid of that's threatening to keep you from reaching your goal? Is it fear of failure like me?

meinvt 02-19-2013 03:35 PM

Don't dispair Kat117! I think we all have those feelings. What keeps me going? I think about how I always get screened at the airport, while my skinny family walks right through. I think about how left-out I feel at the mall, since I know there is nothing there for me. I think about all the things I don't do with my family because "I have nothing to wear" or I'm self conscious about my size. If I could make all that disappear . . . well nothing could possibly taste better than that. And then I see all the people on this site in their new outfits, and all the :carrot: happy carrots! We just need to keep at it and all the weight will go. This program really seems to have the answers if we just hang in there!

The idea of a buried fear keeping us from success is so interesting to me. I'm going to think about that.

ultramommynine 02-19-2013 03:39 PM

Weighed this morning (bad me) and lost 3.5 pounds overnight. Yay me and IP! Vowing to myself I won't weigh again til Sunday, cause obviously the daily losses will stop soon and I'll be a sad panda!

About to go grocery shopping and stock up on some IP friendly veggies. I love mushrooms, kale, cabbage, zucchini, and broccoli so I'm excited to get some more variety in then the broccoli or cauliflower I've had every day this week! Hope everyone is having a great OP IP day!

I'd say 2500 mcg per day. I had some 5000 mcg capsules, so I took one every other day.
