I'ma nurse too and work 3-11 shift. I usually start eating a bit later since I sleep in. Stay with a packet, then eat some veggies a few hours later. Then another packet on my way to work. Pa usually another packet around 6, then dinner around 9. If I'm starving after work I'll have some egg whites, extra veggies, or hot herbal tea. And good flavored gum!!

Another 3-11 RN here!! I can't sleep in (I have a 4yr old) but if she has school I will drop her off and take a catnap. I have something light around 10-11am, coffee and a drink mix. Before work, around 2, I have something more substantial, maybe omelette mix or soup w/ 2 cups veggies and salad. I eat between 6:30-8:00 depending on my assignment. When I come home, that is when I have my snack. That 1st hour when I get home is the WORST for me. I actually have to force myself to eat IP during the day. Of course at night used to mean pizza and some wine.....AWFUL. So, I have to have something to look forward to when I get home.

I work nights too! how I handle it I count after midnight a new day and consider that like a morning meal, but in reality with passing meds I generally don't take a break until maybe after 0100 and if that's not possible I'll mix a packet and drink a shake while I chart and grab some veggies later on. hope that helps.
I have a long commute home so I'll have a Shake
@0730-0800 . So when I'm off I switch back to a day schedule and am up @
0500 to accommodate family needs.
I found the hardest thing to give up was not eating @ night to stay awake @ work. Anyone who works Nights knows how Food consumption is a Major problem for people trying to not gain weight or lose weight.
Good Luck, I think it is so hard to flip back and forth from a day/night schedule and it definitely can and does affect your weight.

You're right, I do think it affects your weight by switching up your schedule. I work weekend option nights, so my eating schedule is like this: around 0800 Fri I have a packet, then go to bed by 1000. I wake up at 1730, get ready, and cook 2 4oz turkey patties or chicken breasts. I eat one pattie on the way out the door so I'm not starving in case I have to hit the floor running. I'm usually able to eat between 2100-2230, usually throw a soup packet in with my meat and veggies. Later I'll eat more veggies and have a bar at some point, but its usually after midnight, so my confusion comes in here. By Monday morning, I've gotten off track, and may or may not have had 3 pks/day. Also, I may not get 4 cups of veggies in. I guess I'll have to try harder to fit it all in. I love blending the cappuccino with spinach, but hate to drink that before going to bed- otherwise I'm up to the restroom several times! Maybe I'll try switching my items up...meat in the morning, etc.

Hi Laury411- I live on Cukes and Red Peppers so easy as veggies to take to work. Actually don't even bother to cut up Red Pepper keeps it fresher and eat it like an apple ,I throw a couple in my bag to bring with me.
To stay Op I use the really larger shaker bought mine at Walmart and drink 1/2 the shake to spread the time out.
And I will allow myself an extra packet if needed to transition the time factor if needed !did that with the time shift, soo total of 4 packets to switch from days to nights. That's what works for me. Also I don't bring a protein to work I eat it at home itS just easier for me.
hope this helps.
I find doing a drink or chili much easier at work cuz you know how the Night people love to order out soo just doing a drink so much easier and less tempting.
Good Luck Roo2
