For those who eat kale chips, do you make your own? I just saw some at the health food store but they were flavored and had carbs so I thought I'd better ask here first before I bought them.
Yup, we make our own. We get the leafy parts (don't include the stalk as this can be bitter), put them on the pan, sparingly drizzle some olive oil, season with salt and pepper. Then bake. Sometimes we also use paprika. You can do this with cauliflower and kohlrabi as well.
Better not buy them from the store, it's much easier and inexpensive to make your own.
Yes, I just had them for lunch! Massaged a little olive oil into them, sprinkled with salt and pepper. Flipped halfway through cooking. They get soo small though, bah!
On P1 you can't have those (store bought) and should make your own. They're super easy. I take two cups uncooked kale. Remove it from the stalk and rip into bit size pieces. Use one to two tsp of EVOO and smooch it around so all pieces are covered (at the same time you can season as desired). I only used salt. Then place them on a sheet pan and bake. Every oven is different and my settings (375 for 20 minutes) were perfect and burned badly at my sister's house.
I also tried drizzling them with 0/0/0 vinegar (for a salt and vinegar chip flavor), but couldn't taste the vinegar. (???)
I just made kale chips for the first time today using my new dehydrator - LOVE both! Bonus - my 5 yr old wanted to try them, and kept coming back for more - I'm so glad she'll help me eat these up.

How long do they take in the dehydrator? I've never used one ... can you "burn" kale chips in it like you do the oven? If not, I may need to look into getting one!

mine took about 1 hr and 15 min. In a standard dehydrator.

Have fun and enjoy!!!
@New Englander, I just tried your recipe for Kale chips. It was my first try and they came out wonderful! I did a large tray full and they were super crispy, crunchy at 20 minutes. The only problem is they didn't stay crispy. I put them in a ziplock bag and sealed it. How do you store yours?

I have a new dehydrator, too. I'm going to try to make some in a little while. What temperature setting do you use on yours and do you toss them with a little EVOO like you do for the oven when dehydrating?
I bought lots of things to dehydrate and I was just wondering if the ladies that use one season the veggies before or after drying?

I'm not New Englander but I store mine in a ziploc brand container (the one with the lid) and I've also used a ziploc bag. I may leave mine in the oven a tad longer to ensure they are done
IF (big if) they last that long, I've still had crispy chips 5 days later
