I picked 160 because I remember when I weighed 160 not thinking I was so super fat, but not feeling thin, either. I will readjust when I get there, as I figure out how I'm going to look, whether I need to lose more fat or try to pick up some more muscle, etcetera.
I chose a small goal so that the big picture didn't seem so intimidating. I started with losing 30 pounds and when I lost 20 very quickly I put that 70 pound goal there. When I reach my second goal, then I will see where I am at. Nothing scientific about it.
I chose my goal weight after talking to my doctor about what a healthy weight would be for my body frame. The interesting thing is that it ends up being the weight I was pre-preganancy. When I reach it...it will be the first time I will have been at that weight since I was 19...and I will be 41 on Saturday.
I chose a monthly goal for my progress. I am going to Disneyland in September and wanted to be down 50lbs. I also want to be down another 30 lbs by Christmas, so I can spend it in Nevada in a swimsuit Gettin there!
My original goal was 130 pounds, but I also know I must have at least 10 or more pounds of loose skin on me. So, now my goal is 140 pounds and will re-elvaluate when I get to that point. I also lift weights 3 times per week, so I will just have to see how I feel and what I look like as I get closer.
I picked the weight my driver's license said. :P
I was 215 the day I graduated High school and at 5'10" i looked pretty damn good... in retrospect. So, my goal of 200 (started at 261) seemed like a really good/ambitious start. I'm 4 weeks into IP and I'm at 236... only 36lbs doesn't seem so ambitious anymore =)
This is a wonderful post. I choose my goal weight because I was previously that weight and I felt wonderful! I was considered overweight but I felt wonderful. Once I get to my goal if I feel and want to loose more then I will but one step at a time. I've got like 60 lbs to loose I will first concentrate on those.
I chose to set an interim goal of getting below 200 pounds. When I get there I'll set the next goal. I'll repeat as often as it takes to get to a healthy, maintainable weight.
I have changed my goal twice now, at first I was going to stop at 185, at the clinic I put down 180 and here I entered 175. I think I may go to 170 if I reach that weight by November 1. I would like to be off phase 3 by December 1. Will have to re-evaluate thoughts on October 1.
I picked my starting goal at 154 because that's what I weighed when I started the diet roller-coaster 23 years ago. Looking back I was crazy to think that I was too heavy then!

I based my goal on a similiar method. I'm trying to get back to the weight I was at when I got married. I actually had put on about 20 lbs that year leading up to the wedding. I know most women lose before their wedding, but not me. The emotional eater in me insisted on gaining. =)
I weighed 128 my Sr. year in high school (I'm 54 now) - that was actually too much for my 5'2" frame, but the women in both sides of my family are really 'curvy'. I chose 135 as my goal as that is something I believe I can maintain, within a 5 lb range, with moderate exercise. And at that weight I shouldn't have to worry about high blood pressure or elevated sugar levels coming back.
Mine is a combination of BMI and previous experience. I know that I have felt wonderful at 160 and this is pretty close to what I should be BMI-wise. I made the goal 158 just so I could be a pound or two into the normal range.
