Default gaining weight?!

Hi all. I'm on day 6 of my first week back on IP. I've been weighing myself daily (I know bad bad) and ive noticed the past 2 days ive gained weight. I didnt experience this last time. However this time around i did incorporate one alternative meal pack per day (those which have worked for other IPers and nutritional info consistent with IP). Also, i cant say ive gotten all my veggies in this time around (most). Could this be the culprit? Lastly, during week1 two years ago (ive waited so long bc i stopped due to pregnacy and nursed) i started at 190lbs and finished at 180lbs. This time i started at 169lbs lbs and at day 6 I'm weighed in @ 164.5. Does that seem like I'm doing ok for week 1. I always read about the big drops week 1 so it has me wondering. Thanks in advance!

With the extra packet, and not getting all of your veggies in, your drop the first week may not be as dramatic - there's a good reason they want us getting all of those veggies in! And you are down for the week, so it's doing some good!!! Weight can fluctuate up to 2 pounds over the course of the day, and if you read some of the threads, many have said that they experience weight fluctuations around their monthly cycle, and even over the course of the week. Look at the big picture, not the day by day - if seeing the needle move the wrong way for a day stresses you out, it's not worth sabotaging your ultimate success!

This might help. To add to the TOM section, a lot of women also gain or hold on to water the week before.

Thanks for replying. I didn't add a packet i substituted. I just didnt know if i should expect a 10 lb week 1back drop like last time considering I'm starting 20 lbs lighter this go round and what impact substitutes and not getting all my veggies would have (i.e. if I'm full should i force myself to eat the veggies)? You're right though i am moving in the right direction

I think you are doing great. I definitely did not lose 10 pounds in week 1.
It's definitely water fluctuations. Some foods can cause water retention. It will even out. You are not eating enough, even with a restricted, to gain!

10 week weight losses are exceptional. I've seen that high a WK 1 welght loss reported here just a few times since I've been on my 'IP Alternative Product' diet. Most have been lower. The weight loss in Week varies, from dieter to dieter. You're right, in that it's generally the week of most pronounced weight loss - because of the large initial water loss - but 10 lbs is pretty dramatic, even for IP. You're also restarting at a lower weight, and probably a different overall body composition.

Everybody's weight fluctuates during the day, and from time to time during the week. TOM, sodium intake, frequency of BMs, etc., all influence it.

If you are going to stress over seeing (temporary) weight increases when you weight yourself between 'official' weight-ins, then you would be better off avoiding the scale between those times. I also encourage you to eat the full 4 cups of veggies (even if you don't feel hungry) and drink the recommended amount of water. If you don't want the veggies at meat time, you can always use it as a snack mid-am or mid-pm.

You're off to a good start! Keep going!
