I am in week 6 and just started doing some walking this week. I am curious what you do for exercise while on IP. Have you noticed any dizziness? I am not feeling good at all this week and am wondering if walking has caused this. How much exercise is too much???
I have exercised since Day 2 and I am on week 11 now. I think if you did exercise before, it makes it that much easier on your body. Best of luck to you!
I weight lift twice a week and 3 times a week do a 30 min "power plate" workout. I eat extra protein on those days - typically 1/2 packet 20-30 min prior and 1/2 packet 20-30 min after. I also drink extra water on those days.
I am gaining muscle and losing the cellulite so while the scale results are just OK from an IP perspective, my body is looking pretty good. I was doing both of these workouts prior to starting IP. However, the weight loss is allowing the muscle underneath to begin to show through. Still have quite a ways to go.
Before IP I was doing a weightlifting class (Bodypump) 2-3x/week that I have dropped, but I am still doing a ~2.5 mile walk daily when I take my son to the park. The walk is pretty low intensity, and there is the 45minute break in the middle when my son is playing. I'd like to talk with my coach about picking up Bodypump again (albeit at a much lower intensity), as I have always 'been strong' and would like to keep up my muscle tone. I am at the end of week 5 (WI tomorrow).
Oh - and other than the first few days and occasional low salt moments - I haven't felt bad, but again - I am doing pretty low intensity stuff.
Yes, always did and never stopped. I exercise 6-8 hours a week- everything from bootcamp to spin to Zumba.
I usually don't add anything, but I work our right before my dinner. If I am extra hungry I will have an extra packet or 2 eggs during the day.
Overall I never lost any muscle. I did ip last year and lost 30 pounds (maybe a bit more as I didn't weigh in right at the start). My current bodyfat is 16.5%.

We have very similar stats and started just about the same time. You are just slightly ahead of me - but he weather is starting to get nicer in MI and I too and starting to walk. Mostly I feel pretty good - but have noticed that I do seem to get dizzy sometimes.
Hi Mooselover, Hi, I don't exercise because I want to save that for maintenance to kick start my metabolism. Even though I don't exercise I did notice myself getting quite dizzy the past few weeks. I believe it was due to insufficient salt intake so improved that and it dissipated.
I went to Alaska in 2006 and loved it! Can't wait to go back to explore more of it. Beautiful state you live in!

I do bodypump 2x a week and several days of cardio (spin, step etc.) I feel like the pump has kept me looking really toned. I'm not trying to up my weights and keep it easy with the back track as the clean and presses can make me dizzy! Haven't had any issues. I started after week 2 and am going into 8. If you're craving it, do it!

I miss exercise, that is why I thought I would just walk and do light weight lifting. But since I started feeling horrible I wondered if it happened to anyone else. I take at least 1/2 tsp of sea salt a day. Usually more!!! I only get dizzy after exercise, not any other time of day. I just have noticed after I started walking a week ago that I have no energy and feel sick to my stomach every day now. I am gonna stop and see if I start feeling better.
Alaska is a beautiful state. I have lived all over the US and I wish everyone could get to Alaska at some point in their lives.
I walk 30 minutes a day 4 days per week and lift weights 3x per week. I started working out about month 2 or 3 if I remember right. Now I'm hooked big time and work out 6 to 7 days per week. I never work out longer than an hour, and I always take a protein drink with me to the gym. One time I forgot it and felt really light headed.
In third week of Phase 1 but my coach strongly advised no exercise except walking because the lack of carbs will lead to muscle vs fat being burned if you exercise. I normally exercise 70 minutes daily, 6-7 times a week. I have continued exercising but with less intensity and time letting my body and how I'm feeling (weak, dizzy, etc). be the guide. I am waiting for something in writing from my coach to clarify the exercise issue. Today I determined calories ingested each day for the last 4 days and it's about 700-800 average. No wonder my energy level the last few days has been low and why IP advises walking only.
I've been lifting weights for the past few weeks and after speaking with a different coach was advised to go on the IP Alternative plan which adds 1 food to each of the meals, eg. yogurt, cottage cheese, bread, potato, etc.
I'm sitting on the fence but may try it this week as my body is calling for something
I asked (on another IP clinic's facebook page) about the reasons for not doing aerobic exercise during Phase 1, at least in the beginning, and here's what they said.
"Strenuous aerobic exercise, or any strenuous exercise is discouraged because your body is not prepared to burn fat fast enough to give the energy you need for that kind of the work out, at least in the beginning. It's important to figure out how many carbs you need to handle a workout, and when you're in the first few weeks, and in some people's cases, the first few months of phase 1, there is nothing you can do to increase the rate of fat burn and you can't get enough ready energy for an extended or strenous work out. You simply are overdoing it, and that is never a good idea while you're on a VLC diet or low carb diet. it takes time and a few toe-dips into exercise to know just what its going to take for you to work out safely!"
