Default IP Phases and Maintenance

Can someone describe all the phases and Maintenance plan?

As for PHASE 1:

Breakfast: IP
Lunch: IP and two cups veggies
Dinner: 5-8 oz protein and two cups veggies
Snack: IP

Free foods include celery, eggwhites, miracle noodles, and lettuce...etc.
1 Restricted food item allowed per day. One extra IP food allowed when engaging in exercise routine.

What are miracle noodles? Where do you get them? My coach tells me to have that extra IP I didn't know it was about exercise?

Just google Miracle Noodles, you can order them from amazon or directly from the company. If you are in week one you usually have 4 IP's a day and after the first week it goes to 3, if you exercise, you have 1/2 ip before and the other 1/2 after.

Has anyone had bad side effects? I just started IP on Sunday 3/4, I have been super sick. I can't keep anything down, my head hurts and I am nausous.

It's carb withdrawal. It will pass. Make sure to get in your salt and oil!

Can someone explain to me the idea of "cheat days" during maintenance?

I bought my Miracle Noodles at my grocery store. They were located in the same aisle as the Walden Farms items (in the healthfood section of the store).

My doctor had me start with 4 IP packets a day because of my weight (I started out at 249 pounds). She said anyone over 230 pounds needed the calories. This may be why your coach is starting you out with 4.

Hi Samba, The best place to answer this is on the Phase 4 sheet. It's under the "sticky" tabs...There's a wealth of information there...

Hi, are you on any blood sugar meds? I was pre-diabetic and was on metformin before the IP program. No one told me to stop the metformin when I started IP, and I was nauseated for a whole month with little weight loss, until I called my doctor and the nurse told me I should have stopped the metformin immediately. Within a day, I felt better.

So make sure your blood sugar is okay.

Hope you feel better soon...

Phase 1: In Ketosis
3 packets IP, 4 cups vegees, meat/poultry/fish protein every dinner.
I always did 3 packets, but some folks have used 4 when they are
exercising alot. Only 1 restricted packet/day; some vegees are
limited to 2/wk like tomatoes.

Phase 2: In Ketosis but weaning off of IP:
2 packets IP breakfast/snack, meat/poultry/fish & vegees at
lunch and dinner

Phase 3: Get out of Ketosis by introducing more carbs:
1 packet IP (snack), breakfast is key - low glycemic carbs, protein
meat/poultry/fish lunch and dinner. Vegees are still from the
'allowed' list, i.e., low glycemic index, but you can start having
some dairy like yogurt.

Phase 4: Out of Ketosis in maintenance:
no IP packs on a daily basis, but encouraged to have a 'treat' day
once a week, then go on Phase 1 the day afterwards to reset
pancreas. Watch what carbs you eat, include a mix of carb and
protein in every meal, etc. More variety in vegees allowed,
you just try to watch how much and how often.

You take the supplements throughout. 1/2 tsp salt, lots of water, 2 tsp oil.
Lettuce is unlimited. The amount of animal protein allowed was 5 oz when I started and just increased to 8 oz. There are some minor differences in what clinics tell people, but I think this summarizes it...

Cheat days are when you can eat anything you want for that day, but you should only have one a week and need to follow it with a day of eating like phase 1 with only proteins and vegetables. You don't need to use the IP packets if you don't want to, just replace them with other proteins like eggs and meat.
