Interesting note about exercise offsetting overeating. I am tracking everything on MFP so I entered in all the food from my free day, plus the 5 mile run. The exercise did not even come close to compensating for the night of excess. No wonder I was so heavy-set even though I hiked on the weekends!
Interesting they both said it takes your body 2 years of maintenance to fully settle at your goal weight.
Maile, do you know where that info from the trainers at your gym originated from and what their backgrounds are/whether they're familiar with how IP works? My experience with maintenance (so far...it's been a year) has been that it requires vigilance and regular fine-tuning, so my body "settling" isn't a concept I can wrap my brain around, and I'm just curious what they're basing that on.
Had pilates again today and I feel good... I am exhausted, though.

Glad you enjoyed date night. We went out for Mexican. I had melted fundido cheese with chips and salsa, guacamole, pork carnitas with mole sauce, black beans in a little corn maize cup, margarita, frozen yogurt, Godiva chocolate dipped macaroon... YUMMY! Today was a good clean day of eating. I'm scared to get on the scale tomorrow, but it's worked the past few weeks so I guess I'll just wait and see what it says.
Interesting that it takes 2 years of maintenance to settle at a goal weight. I wonder how much fluctuation we're going to see?
Pauley..Your night out sounded heavenly. I went as a witch. The difference was that I was wearing leggings.something that I have not worn for years. I had a great time seeing all of my students and parents dressed up!
The gym I work out at, has a weight loss program of doing 45 minutes of cardio and working off 200 calories a day for loss. You are right that exercise does not cover your input.
Are you wearing a costume tonight?

I will ask them for that information. One has BA and MA in physical education or something like that. Both are certified trainers. I am curious as to why it takes the body two years to adjust..or is it that if you have altered your eating habbits for two years, that you then have a higher rate of success in maintenance?
No..The gym program is not IP or low carb oriented so I did not follow their program. They follow Livestrong where you figure out the calories for your weight and then exercise 45 minutes a day to burn off 200 calories.
Maintaining your weight for a year is such good news. You are inspiring all of us! Please feel free to offer any advice on what helps you maintain.

PixleKitty..I am a mole fan. What a great sounding meal. Good luck on your recovery this week.
I actually am looking forward to my Phase 3 breakfast. Progress!

PXL- I really think you have it all figured out. Good job. Hopefully you plan on posting here for a long time to come.

I talked to them this am. There was a study released last week saying that it was the fat hormones that needed 2 years to adjust to stable levels. Supposedly even if you have lost weight, your fat hormones are too high?? and try to devlop fat. After two years the hormones will be normal. The trainer said she learned this in college..and then just heard it on the news again last week. So I think research is needed here!!!

I also heard that on the news last week....
So is that why the muffin tops and all that nasty fat is mercilessly trying to creep back on me? So we really have to fight hard the first 2 years especially, huh. Wow...hard to hear, but good information and makes sense too.

Brain...hurts...from trying to think of how to make that jive. I think it seriously depends on how you lose the weight. By the time you get to Phase 4 on IP, you HAVE reset and stabilized your hormones, from the masters (insulin and glucagon) on down...that's what the protocol is designed to do. Weight loss is just a nice side effect of what you're really doing, which is healing your body on the inside.
Back to hormones though, insulin is the key to storing fat, glucagon is the key to releasing it. Insulin lowers blood sugar when it's too high by unlocking your fat cells so it can store glucose. Glucagon raises blood sugar when it's too low by releasing the stored glucose in your fat cells so your body can use it as energy. Glucagon is your friend on IP.
Estrogen, leptin, and cortisol also play roles in fat storage, but the two biggies are the ones drivin' the bus, so they bring the other guys in line on IP as well...I'd say what you put in your mouth on a daily basis determines what they do, not a predetermined timeframe. That just doesn't jive.
And not to be a Debbie-Downer, but...the human body is programmed to store fat for survival based on millions of years of evolution, so it WANTS to put on weight...it doesn't know you have access to Dunkin' Donuts 24/7. You're going to have hormones for the rest of your life, not just the next two years, so maintenance requires vigilance, but it doesn't feel like work after the first few months...it gets to be intuitive.
So... new routine is up and running. Pilates on Tuesdays at 6am, then shower at the gym, off to get car checked at dealership and now already at work (and I've worked out!) at 8:15am. It's been a long time since I showered at the gym. It was nice not feeling self conscious. It was even nicer that those stupid little gym towels now fit around me.
So, in a nutshell, I am going to beat this hormone thing!
Looking at Halloween pictures last night with hubby and I actually had to say "Wait, go back. Is that me? Do I really look like that?"
His reply, "Yes, sweetie. You got skinny..."
