Question To eat or not to eat that is the question

Hi All

I just started on IP and had a quick question for the more seasoned ( No pun intended) dieters.

Can you have Edamame and Olives on this program? Also can you have vegetables that are allowed throughout the day or only at times when the meals are allowed. I would love to snack on some asparagus or celery from time to time. Is that allowed?

Olives are definately out. Not ure about Edamame.

You can eat your veggies over the course of the day..but measure them out at the beginning of the day though...so that you know you are getting enough!

HTHs some

I often snack on my lunch veggies mid morning - just a couple of bites is all I need. I have also started snacking on romaine lettuce...I roll it up and munch on it...sometimes, I just need something to do with my hands!!!

Asparagus and celery are definitely allowed. Edamame (soybeans) are too, but it's protein and not a vegetable. I like to add some to my stir fry.

hi guys, i'm pretty positive that edamame is NOT allowed on this diet. They recommend using black soy beans instead, but you aren't supposed to eat them often. please make sure to run everything by your coach first because there tends to be a lot of misinformation on this board. edamame is not on the list of approved vegetables, or even occasional vegetables, and it not listed as an acceptable protein. it is quite high in carbs. if you don't have a coach, i suggest directing questions towards someone like Darbs7 since she has been on this plan for 30+ weeks, and has done both regular IP and alternatives.

Is soya not listed on the protocol sheet anymore? I know Showgirlaz used to eat black soy beans and shelled edamame as an occasional veggie...

Hi Bretley! it's not listed on my list, and my coaches always said no to green soy beans. they said black are fine on occasion, as did carla.

Edamame Calories, Unshelled

Per 1/2 cup:

•75 calories
•7 g carbohydrate
•6 g protein
•2 g fat
•3 g fiber

I just thought I'd post this so anyone can make their own decision based on the numbers. Obviously if you eat 2 cups you are eating wayyy too many carbs but a half cup serving mixed with a low carb veggie could be an option for some. I know Carla recommended it to some, especially vegetarians on the plan so they could get some good veggie protein.
