Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in here:

For the past 2 weeks, I've been eating correctly EXCEPT for 1 day each week. (I still have holiday parties to attend...)

I didn't mean to go off plan last week, but I had chocolate covered bananas...of course that messed me up and I gained .1lbs lol.

Then, this past Friday, it was my office party. I had planned from the beginning of this diet, that this would be my one big cheat - with alcohol.

I stuck to mostly rum and diet and vodka and tonic. ...While my official weigh in is tomorrow (and while my scale at home doesn't say I've gained MUCH) I have to admit, I FELT HORRIBLE. I had the worst stomach pains about 2 hours after I started drinking. It was such a bad feeling, I stopped drinking and cut the night short.

Was it worth it? Absolutely not.

So basically, I set myself back ANOTHER week (while I was on a good pace of 3.5ish-lbs a week) anddd I didn't even get drunk haha.

What a waste! My advice? Resist the alcohol until you're done.

No alcohol has to be the hardest part of IP. I told my coach ahead of time that I couldn't stop drinking and she challenged me to wait at least two weeks. So I waited three, I went out on Saturday and had a vodka tonic. Just one. I put so much pressure to not drink it was nice to have the one drink so I knew it wasn't worth it. But as a recent college grad, u only graduate once, (are u graduating or just the end of the semester?) I wouldn't want to ruin my night being sober. And being sober while out and all ur friends are not, that's not a good time. I say go for it if its graduation. Otherwise its not worth it. I'll see if I gained or lost this week after my one drink.

I graduated in July from College and DID NOT have a drink. Everyone has different reasons to have that drink. To me losing weight was more important than having that drink. I celebrated with family and friends, it was about me completing college, a drink was not needed to do that

Whole heartedly agree! Look at my stats, my WI12 was .2. I was on vacation and hadn't seen my gf in a year. I decided to have ONE drink (after all, what can one drink do?). This diet is too strict and focused for me to have screwed up ONE WEEK for one drink! Total waste of energy of an entire week otherwise on OP.

When you have one drink your liver shuts down metabolizing your fat for energy and must metabolise your alcohol. So you MAY not gain, but you'll stall. You may not stall a lot but you'll have missed out on a few days of metabolizing some of your fat stores. On either side of that .2 was awesome WI's so really I potentially missed out on 3 lbs!

Not only that, you're adding the chance that you will cheat again. ALSO, there’s chance that you will eat everything in site while you’re drinking. Every time...EVERYTIME you do NOT cheat, you're exercising your "WILLPOWER MUSCLE".

Although I think the original thread was started for someone in May of 2011, I think what's been posted today applies today too.

FYI the .2 after WI12...I think WI#35 was a .2 loss too…..well, we couldn't figure that one out (I was 100% OP) so the coach and I decided it was my body adjusting. This one was easier to swallow then the one when I had a drink.

GOOD LUCK!

Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!! No cheating is worth the cost or health consequences! Have fun and enjoy your friend's company. You'll have more fun watching them once they all get a little buzzed or even drunk!!!

Hey guys -

I've been super committed to staying OP and haven't had a sip of alcohol since the day I started IP -- almost two months now!

I'll be moving in to Phase 4 next Tuesday (and my 27th birthday is Thursday!) and was wondering if anyone has any advice on re-introducing alcohol into your system.

Does anyone have any wisdom to share?

Thanks all!
Christine

There are so many alcohol threads on this board.
I have reached my goal using alternatives and enjoyed alcohol the entire time. I'm not willing to put my social life on hold. Just choose your drinks wisely.

Here's the thread in which I posted drink suggestions, links, and some myth busters too.

Hi, guys - I have not had a drink for 14+ years - not an IP thing. I do remember it being hard to be around people drinking when I first quit. I would try to avoid that, but if you can't, ask for club soda with a twist of lime. Nobody will know you've not having a vodka and tonic and it's very tasty in my opinion.

Sometimes when you are not drinking around people who are, you learn some very interesting things!

Might be just a tiny cheat, but I don't think one small piece of lime will throw you out of ketosis.

Good thread to bump. My birthday is the end of September and I've been thinking about this. Will have to remember to read it when the time comes around!

I was wondering if anyone here has drank b4 Phase 1 was completed? How did it affect you?

If anything, I will be drinking vodka sodas with lime - no sugary drinks.

Thx!
I'm on week 8 and drank Vodka Straight – the next day checked my ketosis sticks and stayed in ketosis just fine, I did not have my snack packet because the vodka has calories. I still had a 3 lbs loss that week. It was a special thing and I don’t plan on doing it again, but I feel good knowing if I do want to have a drink with friends the straight vodka won’t hurt the diet.

OMG what? How can this be?

Has anyone tried Skinnygirl Vodka? That's supposed to be 0/0/0 as well.

Or what brand/kind of white wine or champagne do you recommend?

I had the Skinnygirl stuff before I was on IP - one small drink gave me a RAGING headache and really did not taste that good. I don't usually get hangover headaches, and this was BAD. Will never touch the stuff again.
