Well, I was wondering when someone was going to mention the little "c"!!
But beyond that I just want to say that isn't it weird that you (and me and the rest of us) have to come HERE to this forum to get some answers!
What did your healthcare "professional" (I use that term loosely) say? I would suspect as has been the experience for me and my (local) friends doing the program is that they aren't saying much! Mostly, "I don't know."
I agree with the notion that every body reacts differently to every (new) thing being thrown at it. So to say that you need to follow it exactly or that you need to be in ketosis for it to work doesn't cut it for me. Everyone is different.
I also want to note that my friend (only just completed week 2) has lost over 10 lbs. and she ate pizza and drank wine (not a lot, but still--a "cheat") last weekend! So go figure. Now, maybe, just maybe, if she HADN'T cheated she'd be down more but I think most of us would be satisfied with 4 lb. loss in one week!
Bottom line: Hang in there (as you say you are going to do). I have not had a gain yet, but I have held the same on one occasion and my weekly average is below 2 lbs./week. Slow and steady--getting ready (prepared) for a lifestyle change--not just a quick fix!
