I'm a newbie to this site and have found it very helpful while on the IP diet. I'm going into my third week of phase 1 and have had plenty of symptoms along the way but the most troubling recently is the side, back and groin pain I've experienced in the last three days. These are all indications of kidney probs and at 71 years young, i may have reduced kidney function. Since it's the weekend and can't reach my coach, have decided to start alternative plan and see if this helps with pain. I'll get a urinalysis next week.
This is a very helpful community and I thank all of you.

Jac: Did you find the link for the plan? Let me know if you need any support finding it.
You'll do great on IP, whether regular or alternative. My mom did it last year at 72. She dropped 35 lbs between May and October and has kept 30 of it off.
Thanks Lisa for your reply. I don't see my coach until Thursday but started the alternative plan yesterday, less restrictive and less
harsh on kidneys...will see how it goes. If your mom can do it, i can too. Really appreciate the support from this community.
is the alternative plan for phase one for people who want to exercise?
how much should i exercise to be on this plan? should i wait a while before starting this version (meaning do the reg diet for a while first?) Does it interfere with ketosis? and by the way, how long is the ketosis process last, should i go on the alternative plan after ketosis?

This particular plan is for those who are diabetic from all I've read.
I believe it's also for people who want to do cardio exercise, or folks who have daily jobs/activities that involve strenuous labor.
Ideal hack, it's up to you which direction you want to go. If you start out on the regular protocol, you will be instructed not to exercise at all for the first 3 weeks. Then you can do light exercise that doesn't raise your heart rate. A lot of people choose to do walking or yoga.
If you really want to exercise from the start, do the alternate protocol, so your calorie and nutrient intake is adequate for exercise. It doesn't put you into ketosis, though, so your weekly weight losses may be a little less than if you were on the regular protocol.
