That's ok thanx for the advice, because thanx to you I did the research to find out more about EAS, Take care Linden.
  • Linden, I buy "Greek Gods Artemis Greek Yogurt" the traditional plain variety. A four ounce serving has 5 grams og carbs and 130 calories.. I eat about half of that serving with a tea spoon of peanut butter mixed in. I love the taste and it keeps my stomach and digestive track working well. I would not suggest this to anyone else but it hasn't affected my weight loss any so far and I have always been a yogurt eater for my health.

    Hi Sandra,

I think this is a neat tip, but are you sure it was meant for me? On the other hand, it's 2:43 am here, so I could be missing something?
  • I am willing to update the nutritional value sheet with the new values if people PM them to me. I eat the same 2-3 things each week with the occasional switch-up. I usually don't get complete boxes since they offer every thing by the packet at my clinic. If you share, I will update.

    Thanks.
  • If you want, I can get the boxes from my clinic, and put the info in. However, about a month or so ago, they had a deal where if you bought like 10K worth of food, you got free shipping - clearing out old inventory to make way for the new? Anyway, maybe that is what we got.

I'll ask them to give me the boxes (they have before), and see what they say!
  • Quote: I cannot tell you how happy I am to have decided to transition off IP products. Seriously why not have an induction phase that tapers people to lower carb levels? People who have spent hundreds of dollars and months on the old product now can't get them because new people get the willies? </sarcasm, for now>

Myth/"caca del toro"/fiction--pick your term but that's what this statement is. Ketones are the preferred fuel for the brain. Glucose metabolism in muscles and in the brain leaves by-products that either accumulate or need to be cleaned up using energy for something unnecessary. Ketones burn cleanly.

Easily addressed with coconut oil, vitamin C, mag citrate or psyllium husk. No need to add fiber if you have enough healthy fat. Or ummm, you know, follow the program and select and eat the fibrous vegetables.

I'll be interested to hear about the reviews of the Bittersweet chocolate pudding. I feel another rant coming on .... deep breath, and let it go.

Disagree about the fibre (and the yogurt), but everything else? 100%

About the chocolate pudding -- see what you can do to score the old stuff. I grabbed what my clinic had on hand a few weeks ago.

Gotta go do some more deep breathing. Ommmm, Ommmm.
Thought I'd scootch this subject/rant/scratch-our-head-topic over here.

I'm svelting - I couldn't agree more. I took about a month to decide to do this diet. I researched every thing I could, scoured this forum, copied all the nutritional data - you name it. I wasn't really too thrilled that some of the (original) packets had sugar in them, since I was trying to cut all sugar out. I decided that the pros outweighed the cons, and hopped on board. I knew going in that this was not an "ideal" low-carb diet, but I wanted/want so desperately to have the accountability. (After getting all the new nutritional data, I may still decide that this is the best way to go, but I want to be able to make my packet choices based on what's best for me - the ones with the lowest carb and sugar count.)

What really bothers me about this whole thing is that the company seems to be giving us bogus/bad-science reasons for the re-formulation. I get the impression that they think all their clients are little sheep, and we will follow the rules blindly, without question. The truth of the matter is that a lot of us are "experts" at dieting. We understood the science of the low-carb WOE long before IP came into the picture.

I have my weigh-in tonight and will press my clinic to get some answers - although I doubt I'll get anything substantial. What I'd really like to do is contact someone at the corporate level.

Quote: I got an email today from my clinic in response to several questions I had about the major changes in products. She said:

"I spent the weekend with Ideal Protein, they have gotten quite a bit of negative feedback regarding the change in some of the products. What they have told us is they have to comply with the FDA and this will also help those dieters experiencing severe withdrawals. Those dieter’s who have had a diet made up of ‘sugars’ and ‘carbs’ are going through severe withdrawals and results in them falling completely off the diet. They have added some sugars and higher carbs to make it less painful, I have seen this also in many of our dieters over the course of the year. This will not deter weight loss. Our brains require a minimum amount of carbs daily to stay healthy while on a Protein diet. They have also added some dietary fiber to help with the digestive system, some dieters have had terrible bouts of Constipation while on the diet so this should help to alleviate that problem. There will be some other new changes in the future but it is all a positive thing to help the dieters transition to a healthier lifestyle without too much withdrawals. They are constantly looking to bring in new Products that taste good so we can offer a wide range of variety for all of you. They are bringing the Chocolate back that everyone has loved, this will be in early 2011. This new Chocolate Pudding is a Milk Chocolate Pudding and the previous was a Bittersweet Chocolate Pudding, we will be carrying both in the future."

They gave me a Choc Pudding w/ the new formulation to try but I am feeling very tentative. Anyway, good news on the scale today. Went through clothes in the closet again this weekend....moved many things to the pile that doesn't fit. I am going to have to go shopping soon!
What I took from that was that the FDA required them to change it. The rest of it is fluff to make it sound like a good change/something they want to do. I may be totally wrong. Who knows?
  • The FDA doesn't regular over the counter medicine/vitamins/health supplements, so why would they regulate IP?
  • Quote: The FDA doesn't regular over the counter medicine/vitamins/health supplements, so why would they regulate IP?
Food and Drug Administration. I wonder if IP is considered a food item. The FDA does control over the counter medications. Vitamins and supplements are classified as neither food or drug.

List of items the FDA regulates...

    http://www.fda.gov/AboutFDA/WhatWeDo...es/default.htm
  • Well, I guess I would want to know how they were able to comply with the FDA regs prior to this.

My doc has an email into the regional manager, but hasn't gotten a reply yet.
  • Quote: The FDA doesn't regular over the counter medicine/vitamins/health supplements, so why would they regulate IP?
They submitted to the FDA for approval. They also are offering this as more than health supplements; they are offering this as food and diet. Given that it can and does make up the majority of the days food it is covered as a food item. Also, there is some regulation in the FDA guidelines that makes any health supplement which comprises the bulk of the diet as a food.

They may also be seeking this approval to have a greater confidence of those in the medical and nutrition world. Or, it could be they are seeking to have consistency across the company because the products are approved by a similar board in Canada

It is true that the body needs a small amount of carbohydrates. The brain however needs GLUCOSE. Yes, the glucose comes from carbohydrates but, in a ketogenic state it is also converted from protein. We are getting plenty of protein and we are getting carbohydrates from the vegetables and the packets of food we get from IP.

The body actually needs very little carbohydrate to run and most organs run on ketones, or glucose made from pyruvate, lactate, glycerol, and amino acids or excess protein. In fact, many organs function better on ketones and when to much glucose is present it has the same impact as having zero glucose.

For the amount of carbohydrates we need for our brains, we get our needs met through the diet already.

I do believe they are trying to make the diet more manageable. It is quiet hard for most people to stay on such low carb values per day.

Actually, anything at or under 100g of carb a day can produce a ketogenic diet. The lower the better in many people's minds. You need to have at least 15g of carbs a day and anything thing from 15 to 50 will USUALLY show ketone concentrations on a ketostix. BUT, some people can be in ketosis and not showing it on a ketostix at as much as 100g of carb per day. That of course depends on many things including their body make up and activity levels.

I guess what I am getting at is, I believe the diet is being changed to make it more manageable, comfortable and tolerable. I don't believe it is changing to add more necessary carbs because that part was already met.

Carla your presence has been greatly missed! Your knowledge and thoughtfulness in you responses, etc. Welcome back.

Why don't they simply remove the no-restricted packets clause from the phase 1 sheet? There are plenty of high carb options available now (bars/chips/puffs).

Frankly, I'd rather keep the carbs in my packets low and get the extra carbs through restricted veggies.

p.s. Glad to have you back!
