  • This new chocolate pudding tastes absolutely DISGUSTING!!! I want to throw it away....what a dissapointment never mind all those extra carbs...
  • Quote: Why don't they simply remove the no-restricted packets clause from the phase 1 sheet? There are plenty of high carb options available now (bars/chips/puffs).

Frankly, I'd rather keep the carbs in my packets low and get the extra carbs through restricted veggies.

p.s. Glad to have you back!
I agree! I really don't have more information on the "why" that is creating these changes.
  • This week my clinic they had RTD. Has anyone tried them? They are a $1 more than the packets and I think 2 more carbs.

Are you refering to the drinks or the puddings? I have had both. I really like both the chocolate drink and pudding. The textures are much smoother then the packets and the convenience is great. The vanilla flavours of the drink and pudding are a little bland for me but mixing them with flavour syrups or spices could help. The vanilla pudding is runny compared to the chocolate but again does not have that 'powdery' texture. Personally, I think they are worth the extra money although I know a lot of people disagree.
  • My sheet doesn't show the "no restricteds" for the first few weeks. In fact my coach had me pick one box of restricteds just in case I had any issues starting my first week! So far I haven't opened it! Doing good with 3.

Talked to my coach today and she said that enough people have complained about the new chocolate pudding that they are going back to the old formula in the new year!!!!

In the meantime I add WF Chocolate syrup and a pkg of Hazelnut flavoured splenda...is better that way; but I won't be buying any more until the old formula comes back.

I like the RTE chocolate pudding
  • Quote: They submitted to the FDA for approval. They also are offering this as more than health supplements; they are offering this as food and diet. Given that it can and does make up the majority of the days food it is covered as a food item. Also, there is some regulation in the FDA guidelines that makes any health supplement which comprises the bulk of the diet as a food.

They may also be seeking this approval to have a greater confidence of those in the medical and nutrition world. Or, it could be they are seeking to have consistency across the company because the products are approved by a similar board in Canada

It is true that the body needs a small amount of carbohydrates. The brain however needs GLUCOSE. Yes, the glucose comes from carbohydrates but, in a ketogenic state it is also converted from protein. We are getting plenty of protein and we are getting carbohydrates from the vegetables and the packets of food we get from IP.

The body actually needs very little carbohydrate to run and most organs run on ketones, or glucose made from pyruvate, lactate, glycerol, and amino acids or excess protein. In fact, many organs function better on ketones and when to much glucose is present it has the same impact as having zero glucose.

For the amount of carbohydrates we need for our brains, we get our needs met through the diet already.

I do believe they are trying to make the diet more manageable. It is quiet hard for most people to stay on such low carb values per day.

Actually, anything at or under 100g of carb a day can produce a ketogenic diet. The lower the better in many people's minds. You need to have at least 15g of carbs a day and anything thing from 15 to 50 will USUALLY show ketone concentrations on a ketostix. BUT, some people can be in ketosis and not showing it on a ketostix at as much as 100g of carb per day. That of course depends on many things including their body make up and activity levels.

I guess what I am getting at is, I believe the diet is being changed to make it more manageable, comfortable and tolerable. I don't believe it is changing to add more necessary carbs because that part was already met.
Thanks Carla....you always have such great information!!!

won't be long until we are in sunny AZ too!!!
  • My sister in law started IP about 5 wks ago and has done so great....she is a nurse and works 12 hr. shifts. She told me today she has been having tomatoes in her salads every day....she is losing 3 to 5lbs a week!!!!

So I think I will spice up my salads by having more of the restricted veggies!!! See what that does.
  • GROSS!! so glad they are changing it back. I use the pudding for drinks mochas and chai tea. I apparently got one of the new chocolate puddings last time. I added some baker's organic cocoa still tasted nasty. They haven't changed the vanilla or butterscotch have they?
  • I got a box of raspberry jelly yesterday, in new packaging. When I compared the labels, the new stuff had one less gram of protein (19 instead of 20), and the calories were fewer (80 vs 100, I believe).

Has anyone noticed a change in the taste of the raspberry jelly?

Most of my packages changed last month as did the calories. I have not noticed a test difference, but the yogurt was something I drank before my morning vitamins and it is not enough to keep me from getting nauseated from the vitamins on an empty stomach. So, nowI have two egg whites first.

So I did my own taste test. They've definitely reformulated the raspberry jelly. Doesn't taste the same (not as raspberry, not as sweet). It's a shame because it used to be tastier.

So I guess eating my jello isn't like eating a steak anymore. Unless it's a less tasty version of steak...
  • I'm bumping this up since no one replied to my earlier question: Is there a link to an updated nutritional data sheet for the new formulations?
