  • Quote: Novak, do you make your own kale chips? I made them early on and loved them the day I made them when they were fresh out of the oven but the next day when I went to try the leftovers they were horrible. The texture had somehow changed and the taste was way too strong.
Always make 'em fresh... spritz with a Misto of oil, grind Himalayan sea salt, bake on parchment paper lined pan, bake at 350-360 for 12-15 minutes, mist with cider vinegar after cooking, if I feel like it. No leftovers... I heard that doesn't work
  • Ahhh--printing this up! Thanks!
    What's a Misto?

Never mind, found it at BB&B. What a great idea. I'll pick one up tomorrow.
  • Hi everyone,
This is my first actual post and I have chosen this thread because I have lurked here the most! I will be starting Phase 3 tomorrow...I was supposed to start this morning but literally chickened out and didn't feel ready. So I re-read a lot of posts, jotted down some ideas for breakfast and I am ready now. I am proud to report I have lost a total of 39 lbs since late May/early June on IP and so many inches that I have literally replaced my wardrobe! Sadly, I have also lost my rear end and now have a long back. lol My coach hasn't been the greatest so this board and a lot of you ladies have been SO helpful and inspirational. Thank you! I am a bit uneasy about moving into this next phase and I dread gaining anything back but if it's only a few pounds and my new clothes still fit nice then I am ok with that.

    I shall keep you posted...

Hi, welcome. What a great, successful time to make a debut. I wish you the greatest further success and I really like your board name.

    Glad you posted here first!

I know it's hard to switch over from weight loss to transition... I even delayed Phase 2 for a week because I was so comfortable in Phase 1! But the big breakfast is so great, and once you get used to that, it's not such a difficult change. You may even continue to lose as you are coming out of ketosis.

The scarier move is to Phase 4, when you start working without a net. But even that gets easier, as you experiment and learn how your body reacts to your eating behaviors. The good thing is that you always have Phases 1 and 2 to fall back on if need be--for weekly recovery days, or for more substantial course corrections throughout your life.

That is the empowering part of this whole journey. You have the tools... you have the control. And it really isn't that hard. If you choose to throw it all away by falling back into self-destructive old habits, then you only have yourself to blame. But it doesn't have to be that way.

Hopefully, you are finding what you need here from those of us in maintenance who are still kicking around. But don't hesitate to ask questions or post concerns... these discussions will help the next group of folks coming down the home stretch. And there are a LOT of them out there!

    Enjoy your big breakky!

Hi Novak, lol i move to phase 4 tommorrow and it is scary, not sure what to expect, i am loving the big breakfasts, but not sure what to expect, i do miss how easy phase 1 was, didnt have to think about what to make, i hope it all goes well.....yikes
  • Quote: I asked something similar late last night and will ask it here, for those of you on Phase IV, have you noticed that things you liked before you no longer do, or that your tastebuds have changed remarkably? I, for one, used to love the chocolate drink mix, and hated the chocolate pudding, but now the opposite is true....drink is too sweet for me. I've noticed that things I didn't like early on in the diet I can now tolerate or even enjoy. Strange how that happens, but I wonder if it continues after you're no longer eating the packets.

    JC
Well, I can't really say my taste buds have changed much. I still love the same foods, including sweets. My problem was never really pigging out. I think my problem was my metabolism. The difference now is that my pancreas is working properly, and I'm not putting on any weight. If I have a cheat day, I really don't feel like eating much the next day or two so it's not too much of a chore to do the next day on Phase 1. I can relax a bit now because if I do gain a couple of pounds, I know how to deal with it. I still weigh every day just to keep a handle on things.

Thanks for the different perspective, Bev. I don't want people thinking everyone will be like me, so the more experiences we can get here, the better!

So glad you are still hanging around!!
  • Quote: Yes, some folks have reported that it DID help shake things up.

Hey, I remember that shopping trip! It took me forever, because I hadn't shopped those aisles for so long, they'd rearranged the store! But as fun as the shopping was, the eating was much better. What will your first big breakfast be?
I dreamed all night the night before about what I would have! We were camping and I wanted to make it easy, so I had a multi-grain english muffin with low sugar peanut butter, a scrambled egg, a glass of milk and some peaches. The second day I had blueberries, muesli, low-fat yogurt and scrambled eggs. Today I went back to my first meal again. It is so nice to have grains and fruits again! But, I am not used to eating so much in the morning and had bad stomach aches for about an hour afterward. I'm thinking this will go away as I get used to breakfast again.

Quote: Shook things up for me! I lost 3 pounds this first week on phase 2. The prior 3 weeks on phase 1 I lost a total of 1 silly little pound. I was so reluctant to go to phase 2. Boy was I wrong. But then again, no one told me it might help with my plateau!
So glad you got a little boost too!

Excellent loss! Don't be worried about gaining a little bit back. If it gets beyond your comfort zone of a few pounds, you know that a return to phase 1 can take care of it.
  • Hello All,

I think I am the same way as BeVs, I still enjoy the same foods but just don't have lots of it. I still have cake, but its once in a while and very small portion. To be honest though I haven't been really able to do a true phase 1 after a cheat day and even that hasn't made me gain weight. I just haven't eaten as much the next day if I feel like I over did it one day.

This weekend though I am a bit worried as I have been so busy. As of Friday I really have been to busy to worry about what I put in my mouth and had to throw a going away party for a friend on saturday then I have been off to stay with parents which means more food.

I am pretty sure I will gain weight this time around and if so, what I really like to do is to have one full week of phase I begining of october and go from there.

    Ciao.

Thanks Novak...so far so good, even managed a shopping day trip across the border and didn't slip. Haven't gained yet. Discovered Fitday is awesome for trying to stay within the requirements and I have 4 breakfasts that are interchangeable to that helps A LOT. I am enjoying breakfast SO much and I can't believe how much I can eat, it's great! It's so nice to be at the end leg of this way of eating, I'm quite positive I have completely changed the way I look at food. My 9 year old daughter was asking when I was going to be buying Kale again...I love the chips and she has developed an interest in them as well.

    Have a great week everyone.

Hey Pita, nice to hear from you! Thanks for checking in. Yes, I agree, I can't imagine eating what I used to, and that will be a big part of not gaining anything back...12 pounds from big breakfasts, 12 pounds from big breakfasts....
  • Hi Ladies, i feel silly asking all these questions, lol but you all are so informed
    Phase 4 questions:
Eat the same breakfast in phase 3?
Lunch, no carbs, i usually have a 1 cup cottage cheese and a cup of rhubarb, is that ok still to have? but now i need 1 or 2 fats, example 1 oz of cheese?
Dinner can i have my normal protein and veg or salad or do i have to add the complex carbs, but no fat, and where do i use the 1-2 tsp olive oil or does that count as a fat.
sorry for being longwinded, just want to make sure i got it in my head alright
    Thanks so much

Have you read the Life After Phase 1 Sticky? Novak gave us a good summary of how to do Phase 4 here: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/3348569-post27.html. But be sure to read the whole sticky if you haven't already done so. I do eat the same breakfast in Phase 4 as I did in Phase 3, but you don't absolutely have to. For lunch, you can continue eating that if you want. I'd try a little variety there. Unless you're having fat-free cottage cheese, you're having fat. Lunch is where you can have more fat if you want it. You don't have to feel forced into it. For dinner, yes, you can have your normal protein and veg or salad, and it is suggested that you have complex carbs for energy the next day, but it is suggested, not required. Use the 1-2 tsp olive oil (yes, it's fat) in salad dressings or cooking your eggs or wherever you want. Or not at all. I still use 4 capsules of fish oil every day. In Phase 4 it's more important that you continue eating healthy foods, not as important to eat specific things at specific times. Do try not to have a lot of fat with complex carbs. Weigh yourself at least a couple of times a week, and if you find your weight has increased above your predetermined range, go back to Phase 1 or 2 until it's back where you want it--hopefully only a day or two.
  • Not missing ketosis mouth one bit! Just sayin'
