Default Um...Bodily Functions...

Such an uncomfortable topic but your digestive system goes through a lot on this diet... I thought a place to catch all the Qs and As would be good.

And so I'll start - lots of protein, calcium and more vitamins than I've taken in ... well ever. I wasn't terribly regular before so I decided to be proactive with the Magnesium. 1/2 tsp the first day, 1 tsp the 2nd day and then 1 Tbs yesterday... and still nothing. I'm getting concerned and wondering if I should up the ante on the Magnesium? Thoughts? and Thanks

Hi lookin for loss,

In the past I haven't been exactly regular either. I also thought I would be proactive, but I started out with a Tbs. each of the first few days, I had to stop that, but when I started again it didn't have the same effect. I know someone has once posted that Miralax is their friend. I think it is prescription, if you are not on the program thru your regular dr., you may want to pay them a visit. I would also recommend being sure you are getting all your veggies and plenty of lettuce. I have a tendency to only eat romaine lettuce, and higher in fiber green veggies. I think it is recommended you watch your carbs with them. I know that a 10 oz. bag of Hearts of Romaine is 9g carbs and 1 c. of broccoli florets (Birdseye frozen, I let it thaw in the fridge before I measure out a cup) is 4g. of carbs. Good luck.

I've been on IP for six weeks now...the first two weeks I went like a champ, after that the constipation set in. Most of my life I had bouts with constipation but was managing it with lots of fiber. I started taking Align a week ago. It is a probiotic and supposed to aid digestion. I also take psyllium husk in my shakes and a stool softener at night along with a tablespoon of Citrate of Magnesia. This week has been totally successful as I had had "success" every day. I believe it is the amount of protein but I drink lots of water (in excess of 80 oz per day) so I was hoping that would make the difference. I don't have the gas and bloating I had in weeks 3 thru and I'm happy for that. I believe you can get Miralax over the counter but have not tried it yet. Anyway, today my weight loss so far is 24-3/4 lbs. so that part makes me quite happy.
