My Doctor does know, in fact I gave him a copy of the diet. He doesn't know I went down from 25mcg to 20. I had my blood work done this morning and I see him a week from today. The reason I reduced the Cytomel is because on 3/11 I had my Biomeridian testing. Its not common in the U.S. (because insurance companies don't want to pay for it) but doctors in Europe use it as a diagnostic tool. Its a computer program that determines which organs, minerals, hormones and foods stress or weaken your body, as well as determinging allergies. The computer showed that I was a little hyperthyroid and that 20mcg would balance me.

I still have a lot of energy, but I feel better.

I've never really gotten into ketosis, even when I was heavy duty into Adkins several years ago. My loss is slow but steady, about 2lbs a week.

That's really interesting stuff. If you are feeling better, it must work. Sometimes I think I might like to try a bit of Cytomel along with my levothyroxine, but I couldn't get my doctor to prescribe it.

Week 1 is over! Had my first WI, I lost 6.5 :) I was happy with that. My daughter lost 9 lbs. she was very happy with that. So all in all it was a good first week. We both got our TOM last Sunday (great timing, right?) So let week 2 begin. We're ready!

Wow, I had a heckuva week!! I had to go out of town for a conference with 4 people I work with. (Reminder- I haven't told anyone I'm on this diet) First thing we do is stop to eat dinner. Luckily it was at Applebee's so I did well, although they just couldn't understand why I wasn't eating any of the appetizer. I figured I better come clean with my roommate right away and she was cool with it and very interested. The breakfasts were easy because I could just eat first in my room and completely avoid the pastry and muffin selection. Lunch was harder. They usher you into a room and you sit and they serve:( The first day was pretty much Thanksgiving dinner!! I ate my salad calmly and thought I can't not eat, so I ate the Turkey and pushed my plate away. I figured that was a good choice, but I also know I had to eat dinner with my co-workers that night too. I ordered chicken breast and broccoli for dinner and then went back to the hotel and took a 2 mile walk by myself. The worst thing I did was eat double the meat I was supposed to in the 2 days that I was out of town.

I should probably see that as an accomplishment, but I still feel a little guilty. I don't want it to hinder the progress I have made. I'm finally home and now I can follow the plan like I should. It was a good learning experience that you can go out of town and still stay committed.

I've missed coming to the board! I'm glad I'm back:)

CARLA! Give yourself some credit girl!!! you did FAN-FREKIN-TASTIC!!! :carrot: Think of all of the different "combat situations" you were in and you came out victorious! You were on the front lines and you barely got your boots dirty! :p So you had a little extra protein- don't hold that against yourself- thats not a cheat- your body maybe needed it with all the stress going on and you took a walk. GIRL YOU DID GREAT- YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOURSELF- I'M PROUD OF YOU! GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK. Don't think about what woould have been "perfect" in "theory"; think about what you would have done before IP and how FAR you have come!! You have done nothing to take yourself out of ketosis and slow down your weight loss. Good job girl! WOO HOO!!! :bravo::cp::cheer3::cheer2::cheer: **Goddess

Kelsey- great losses for you and your daughters!!!

Carla- great choices while out of town, I had a similar situation, lunch & dinners out at a sales conference, I asked for another salad at lunch with oil/vin on the side, and brought a lemonade drink in a water bottle, so I didn't eat any of the ziti. And for dinner, again a mass produced one, but I just told our waiter I'm on restrictions and I needed the baked chicken dry and no sauce on the veggies, etc, I'm sure the lunch guy was annoyed, but there were more pleasant at dinner! I just told people I am choosing to eat this way for now! :D

well I'm going to get dinner ready, baked grouper tonight as we have to leave to see my niece in Annie!

Kelsey- Great first week!

Carla- I think you did really well with your selections while at the conference. Did you get really hungry though not having enough veggies? I am about the same size as you and I too would look great at 160. I hope I can make it.

Jen- My coach says the same as Bev's coach. As long as you are losing, keep on keeping on.

Chaplains wifey- Great going. You are going to blow him away with how great you look!

Red Monkey- Again I am going to try one of your recipies for dinner this evening. The Turkey Loaf sounds great. I have never eaten mustard greens, but chopped up I would probably like them.

Babs- Losing 1.5 a week close to goal is still good. I am sure you will look really good in the bridesmaid dress.

Thanks, Uvettee, mine weren't color coded so that makes things clearer. Also, having the jello or pomegranate drink every 3rd day must be something new cause I was told to do one every day to avoid loose skin. Although I admit I haven't done so--they're not among my favorites.

Does anyone know if there's a certain amount of carbs in an item before it's considered restricted. I'm wondering because I use some low-carb alternatives to IP. Also, do any of you count net carbs instead of total carbs? I know this isn't part of IP's protocol. Just wondering.

I'm not sure what you mean Bev, when you say " its not part of IP's protocol" when asking if anyone counts net carbs instead of total carbs. Where did you hear that from? I always subtract fiber from my total carb count. I have never read any study or research that has ever said that fiber has any effect on your blood sugar levels. Nor have I read in the book or been told, when questioned, from my coach or doctor that fiber should be counted as carbs, so I guess I'm a little curious where you got your information from. Fiber is largely indigestible so it has no effect on your insulin, so it will not affect your blood sugar levels nor the release of your fatty acid stores being released into the blood stream and traveling to be burned in the liver where more ketones will be produced, and in turn raising your glucagon levels which increases the rate at which your fat is released into your blood stream, not inhibiting the fat burning cycle.

This is my understanding from the information from my doctor and medical websites and nutrition books. Someone else said something similiar about total carbs and I asked if they knew of any research or new studies that has come out disproving what I have said, because I don't want to be giving out wrong information, and I would be happy to learn something new if you know it or be corrected if I am wrong.

But in short, yes, as far as fiber goes, I subtract that from my total carbs and it in no way inhibits my weightloss.

I am not totally sure about the exact number of carbs to qualify as a restrictd item, i DO know that the highest amount of carbs I have ever seen in a restricted packet is 7, so i would guess that would be the ceiling, but I do not know for sure. i would think you could get a pretty educated decision going off the labels for the IP products- and you can't go wrong with just keeping the carbs very low to stay in ketosis, since that what really drives the fat burning in this diet.

but hey thats just my two cents!:D Hope maybe I said something that was helpful.

Bandmom and Carla,

You guys aren't the only ones... I am usually described as solid as well... and that I have a large frame (which I DO) and very large shoulders and back- people always say I have alot of muscle or that "its all muscle" PAH!! And I always reply- "well when your muscle can do the wave... you've got a problem!":o People always think I am a good 20-25 pounds under what I really weigh, so yes- I understand- I was not built for ballet- I was built for Rugby, football, and Muay Thai- contact sports- NOT BALLET! I'm more of a rough and tumble kind of gal. So one thing we really need to pay attention to is the inches because the BMI and scale are not always as accurate with our frame and build. I used to hate it, but now I embrace it. Like I told Sparkles, I've been related to Athena- 4 or 5 times, Goddess of war- lol. If you can't beat them. join them. Also, I can't seem to get pictures on this website. i think my files are too big. Do i have to create another site to document my progress? Does fitday allow that?

MuayThaiGoddess 03-26-2010 04:27 PM

LMAO!! That is so funny! I know how your feeling though. I have 14 month old twin boys and I think they want to sabotage my efforts too. Doesn't it suck trying to make their meals with variety and you can't eat hardly any of it! Whats worse is my boys are very into "sharing" their food with me. I don't give in when they are desperately trying to force a bite of their cookie/cracker/sandwich or whatever down my throat, but I still feel a little guilty when their cute little faces are looking at me like "Mommy, why won't you eat my offering"

Ha ha Jen, twin boys, wowza! If I had two of my son i would proabably wake up in the fetal position everyday... that must be insanity. Are they pretty good? Mine is ninty to nothing HE NEVER STOPS, and I think he might have a career in decorating because he is CONSTANTLY re doing the decor in my whole house... he thinks shredded toilet paper and dog food is a nice touch to the ambiance... IN EVERY ROOM. He started walking at ten monthes and now, he is turning on the dish washer and opening it, opening and closing doors, turning on the stove and oven, he turns all the electronics on... its practically like he' two already. I SURE HOPE YOUR TWINS AREN'T AS ACTIVE OR I MIGHT HAVE TO ADD YOU TO MY NIGHTLY PRAYERS! None the less, two at the exact same age is hard REGARDLESS!!
My son is ALSO a mommy feeder and constantly tries to shove pepperidge farm cookies, nutri-grain bars, and fruit in my mouth, I practically wipe my mouth off with clorox wipes to get the carbs off "GET EM OFF, GET EM OFF" It seems like I can feel them crawling into my mouth, making a bee line for my bloodstream- "CHARGE!" He also gives me this look like, "if you won't eat it, why should I?" He's the type that wants to eat and drink everything mommy is eating and drinking... which is how I got him on sippy cups. I started walking around everywhere with a sippy cup with apple or pear juice and drinking it ( a little un-orthodox) but sure enough before I knew it the little monster was stealing it and indulging in mommys new beverage! Do i know my kid or what?
What I DIDN'T look out for was when I was drinking the pre-mixed chocolate shakes, with the little straws, i set it down by my chair and a few minutes later I heard this slurping sound...??? I looked a little behind my rocking chair and there was my little monster, shake in hand green eyes wide with delight and lips in a perfect "O" around that little straw slurping out the last few drops of the shake box. He gulped down the WHOLE THING- and was slurping for the last few drops! I could NOT believe it... he was clearly very pleased with himself... and what I realized at that moment is that teeny tiny straw is the perfect size for him- NOW I HAVE TO GUARD MY SHAKES WITH MY LIFE! Everytime I get one out... I see "JAWS" COMING! dun DUN dun DUN dun DUN.... :yikes: HES COMING!! haha . I usually chug it- ( I CAN'T GIVE HIM $4-5 DOLLAR DRINKS!) and put some water in it and let him suck out the rest... I'm such a push over! but what can I say... hes my love!

And yes, it is hard feeding him, especially fruit, My mouth waters and I wish I could have it more than junk food but I'm okay with it. he does alot of snacking and having a box of cheeze its or froot loops in my lap sucks sometimes but he shouldn't have to suffer- right?

Okay, sorry I went on for so long. I LOVE TALKING TO OTHER MOTHERS- LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! I'M SO GLAD YOU SHARED! :) Feel free to share any experiences or anything you need support on as a mother, I love being in mommys world!:hug:
