Today Is My 3 Year Atkins Anniversary!
Today I'm on Atkins 3 years...doesn't seem like its been that long! When I started this new lifestyle, I was 42 years old & 245 lbs To put it quite bluntly...I was FAT! With a history of heart disease, high blood pressure & diabetes in my family...I decided it was time for me to do something...FINALLY!! My friend, Jennifer (who, incidentally...is a nurse on a cardiac floor) was on Atkins & at that time, she had lost 60 lbs. I talked to her about it & she suggested I start by reading the book. I decided to give it a try. Who would have thought being able to eat real, full fat mayonnaise...heavy cream...full fat salad dressings...butter...full fat cheeses & meats would result in me losing 102 lbs!! I went from wearing men's size 3X t-shirts to currently wearing size 8/10 I will admit, the "new me" is taking some time for me to adjust to. When I look in the mirror now, I don't recognize this body! I have been blessed with 2 wonderfully supportive parents and a DBF who makes me feel special & beautiful every day of my life (I love you sweetie! ) For any of you struggling with your weight...I've been there...BUT, you CAN change this. If I can do it, anyone can do it!! Atkins works...I'm living proof of that!
And great job of keeping the weight off - if you'd ever like to poke your head in the Maintainers Forum, we'd love to have you. Lily can tell you that we don't bite!
Congratulations on your big anniversary. How wonderful for you that you were able to turn your life around and keep it that way. You should be so very proud of yourself.

This is a common misconception of Atkins. Unfortunately, Atkins has gotten a bad rap because people are misinformed and believe us "Atkineers" eat only red meat, lbs of bacon & butter etc. Atkins, when done correctly, is very healthy. I will eat this way the rest of my life.
