Isn't it true though that if you're all alone in a darkened room when you eat, you can't gain weight? :chin:

It's not true!?!?! Well, there's MY problem. I keep finding a way of rationalizing that this particular thing or that particular thing doesn't count for some reason or another.

No, it doesn't help me lose weight. :(

BTW, I was weighed and measured at Curves on Monday. Then she asked all sorts of questions about why I was there and what I wanted to accomplish. Made me really stop and think! One thing I thought I was being vain about (but she told me that a lot of people think this way) is that I really didn't worry as much about the number on the scale as much as the number on the size tag. That is, I want to feel good (more energy, etc.) but even more I want to LOOK good! :flow2:

At the end, she asked me what size I'd like to be wearing. I thought long and hard and said I'd be happy with a size 10. :?: She figured the measurements of someone in a size 10 and then figured my measurements and we finally established that I have to lose a total of about 20 inches overall to be a size 10.

Hm.... maybe a size 12? ;)

Quilter and Tiger, great idea about only eating at the table! I keep saying that's what I'm going to do. Then I end up back on the sofa in front of the TV. Gotta work on that.

Speaking of work, I have to go do some. This new phone system we've just got is a nightmare so far. :yikes:

Cafe976 04-30-2003 12:38 PM

Quilter - I'm adding "Thin Within" to my books to read list right now. Thank you for that. I think I need to do some of this kind of homework.

Tiger - why do you hate your table? Maybe you need new cushions for your chairs. That was my biggest problem with the table. We won't talk about how long it took me to figure out that I didn't like sitting there because my legs fell asleep. Well, that and I'd just plain prefer to be on the couch. But it's much better with new cushion. ;)

I've experimented, and I figure the only way that I can eat in front of the TV without bad results is to pre-portion and to resolve that when I'm done - I'm DONE and I stop. It's easy to go back for more w/o thinking when you're hypnotized.

Something that has helped me not snack in front of the TV (esp. in summertime) is Crystal Light. It has so much flavor, that it satisfies the urge for sensation if nothing else.

Of course there's always the trick of brushing your teeth at 8:00.

Jello- What a great system, that they do all that for you. Good for you for facing up to all the wts and measures. I'm excited to hear how the first workout goes.

BTW, there's nothing wrong with wanting to look good!

Ya know, I have to say that I really DESPISE light cream cheese. I usually use plain, just less, but I thought maybe if I got flavored light cream cheese... No, it still tastes like nasty plastic. Some things there is no substitute for. I actually threw away half my bagel this morning because I can't stand the stuff. Never again.

That's all the news I have on the diet front. :)

Later~

Happy Hump Day!
Cafe, my table....just not comfortable. I've recovered the seats a few times...they are beyond help. Really do need a new set, table and all. Maybe when the downstairs gets done, I'll start looking for one. Mine has "rustic" charm.:p

Quilter, my DH says the same thing and gets mad when I put myself down. But, I can't help but think he'd enjoy a "better me". :s:

Jello, I'm going to call the local Curves.

Finally getting some rain here. Much needed. Kinda glad to be stuck in the house. Although, I did get out to Kroger this morning. Still watching labels and trying to buy low carb. Try, try again!

:df:

Jello 04-30-2003 02:09 PM

Cafe, light cream cheese!!! :flame: Yeah, burn it!!! But take the fat free stuff first!! Yuck. :p

Tiger, I'll let you know tomorrow how my first "official" workout goes tonight. But so far I like it! :D

Ya know, I was just thinking. When I was in WW and it was the day of my weigh-in, I would be starving myself and would be afraid to go to lunch with someone or "indulge" in even a light snack. I had the mentality that I "couldn't eat until after I weighed in". Wrong attitude, I know but it's how I felt. :stress: Now, instead, I'm a lot less stressed about this. I'm even looking forward to going to Curves tonight. Although I am a little apprehensive but I think that's just because it's new to me. Once I get used to it ... I hope I hope I hope......

Another plan of mine. After this weekend and the block party is over, I can get back to getting the house in shape and finishing all the wonderful renovation projects that we've started. That means I can finally get the dining room finished which means... You guessed it! I can actually eat at my dining room table. No more TV trays or things spilled on the sofa. How "normal" would that be!?

Gotta run. Desk has exploded into a sea of paper and phones are still a mess. Three hours to go.....

Just a quick hello, surgery went well yesterday and she wasn't in a lot of pain afterwards. Probably will be today when they gey her up, they took part of her hip bone to fuse with. Sounds painful to me! Anyway, I'm back to work and covered up as usual this time of the year.

Love you guys.

Jello 05-01-2003 10:41 AM

Ask me how much I liked Curves last night! Go ahead, ask me. I'll wait...

... OK I'll tell ya. I'M SOOOOOO LIKING THIS!!!!! :cb:

You just go in at any time and hop into the circuit wherever there's a free machine and follow the voice on the recording that says "Change station now" every couple of minutes. Then you do just that. You go around the circuit of machines and cardio stations three times, go to the stretching area for a few minutes of stretches and you're done. It's so cool!!

Disclaimer: Yeah, I know it was only my first day and I have a habit of getting all excited about something and then losing steam.... But I am really loving this right now. And NOW is what's important!! They recommend every other day so your muscles have a chance to relax in between but I can't wait to go back tomorrow!!

Ah but enough about me. :^: Have to dive back into this pile of paperwork now....

Jello 05-02-2003 08:39 AM

What on Earth!?!?!?! Where is everyone!?!?!?!

Here I am, all psyched up over Curves and wanting to rant and rave...

(yeah, yeah, I know, what else is new? )

... and there's no one here all day long!!!!

Bummer.

QuilterInVA 05-02-2003 08:54 AM

Jello, how does this fit into the recommendation for an hour of exercise every day - and walking isn't strenuous enough - that is the latest scientific study? Doesn't sound like enough. Do you think a person with asthma could do it? I'm trying to find something and we do have a Curves here.

Tigerlily 05-02-2003 08:57 AM

Friday! I'd do the happy dance, but DH has to work tomorrow and Soccer game starts at 8am.:dz:

Jello, So glad to hear you like Curves. Are there a wide variety of women there? Any Bambi's?:headache:

Semo, glad to hear things went good with your sis.
I've decided to join you on the exercise thread. You wont boot me out if I only start with 800 minutes, will ya? :bb: Learning to walk again :dizzy:

:goodvibes DNW. Hope you find your way out from under that pile of work and back on the road to exercise. ;)

Yesterday, I went to the dentist. *shudder* My mouth is still sore today. Can still eat on the other side.:s:
Oldest son started track practice this week. Youngest is in the middle of soccer season and starts Tball on top of it next week!
I AM MOMMY, HEAR ME ROAR!

Tigerlily 05-02-2003 09:16 AM

Oh, maybe that's not right. I should have said,
I AM TAXI DRIVER, HEAR ME HONK!

I'm heading outside for a walk...keeping my eyes peeled for mushrooms!

:df:

SEMO 05-02-2003 09:34 AM

I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR,
I bring home the bacon,
and fry it in a pan,
and I can have it 'cause it's on the Atkins plan.......:D

IT'S FRIDAY! Altho, I'll probably work a little while tomorrow before my Sister gets there. OMG I am so far behind.

Tig, sure you can join the exercise challenge, post on the May thread. And speaking of that we need a new thread......Oh DNW, hint, hint.
