Hi fellow IFers. I have missed y'all. I was sick all last week with the flu and a sinus attack. Finally feeling better and ready to get back on track. I am going to do the Fast 5 for a while instead of 16/8. I'll still do ESE 2 times a week.

Congrats to everyone on their losses.

Hello and thanks for the welcomes! :) I've been away for the weekend and I'm playing catch-up.

In response to the question about intensity on cardio... I walk fasted most days and feel great, but that is low intensity. If I jogged or ran it would be high intensity (for me anyway). The intensity is determined by how high you push your heart rate. If I were you, I would try your cardio activities fasted and see if it bothers you. I.e. if you feel really drained, light-headed when you usually wouldn't be etc.

As to the low-carb question, I try to keep my carbs pretty low. As someone (John I think) said, it really depends on the individual. Protein fills me up, carbs make me lethargic and hungrier.

Glad to see everyone is doing so well! :)

Hi! I am in too. Came yesterday from our vacation in Reno... I need a good FAST... But I am not so upset - I enjoyed every minutes of our vacation (and all really good food).

I was doing WW, but didn't really faithfully count anything once I started IF. IF is working great as keeping my FBS (fasting blood sugar) normal, but I think I'm eating too many calories/carbs so I'm thinking about counting calories with the idea of keeping my carbs lower.

Thank you so much wvuchick, Italiannie and Melzy!

Mizzthingaling Im glad that you're feeling better and getting back on track.

Glad you enjoyed your vacation PrincessSophia.

Pattygirl, thats great that your FBS is normal, it takes a lot of work.

Hello

Hi everyone

I have been researching intermittent fasting and a paleo diet for a few months and I have finally decided this would be the best way for me. I hardly feel hungry at all in the morning and find I can go through the whole day without needing to eat anything. I have realised that when I do it carby foods I get very hungry quickly and my portions are just out of control. I have tried the low carb lifestyle in the past and have found some success but I soon get tired of having to plan meals all day long. So IF and Paleo makes perfect sense for me - and now I just need to put it into action. I have been doing IF sporadically for the last few weeks but I have not been breaking my fast with low carb meals but from the research I have been doing (Marks Daily Apple, Leangains, Warrior Diet, Justin Owings etc) this way of eating is the best way. So...with that said i look forward to the journey ... I want health more than anything else ....weightloss is fantastic but health is priceless...I am glad i found this forum!

Welcome to all the newbies. It is neat how this thread is really growing. I find it interesting that here and other places where I read about IF that so many of us have the same story. We naturally ate this way when we were young and had no weight problem until we were talked into eating the way the experts say is "normal". It really upsets me that for 48+ years I've been fighting a weight problem that I should never have had in the first place.

I'm also finding the same situation many of you are about the carbs. I think I have to cut them back and might even have to cut them out completely or at least for the most part. I really love how I feel when I eat low carb, but don't like counting carbs or calories and don't want to remove the all carbs completely. I don't want to get into a bad/good food way of thinking. I think I would rather do low carb most of the time knowing I can have carbs on special occassions if and when I might choose.

I previously said I was going to do the Fast-5, but I realized today that I can't do that as I have to take my Metformin in the evening. So I've decided to do a 17/7. My eating window most days will be 12:00 to 7 pm. My goal is to get off the meds eventually and perhaps I can switch to the Fast-5 at that time.

Looks like everyone is doing good. I've actually got my FBS down in the normal range, but my goal is to get it down below 100 mg all the time. I think I'm going to have to change my eating to the low carb way of eating in order to get the weight moving down.

We are all learning how this woe works for each of us as individuals.

I think this is what I'm learning and why I think I have to switch to using low carb or lower carb. I am so lethargic and hadn't realized that the carbs may be what makes me hungry as well. Thanks for sharing that. It helps me.

Welcome Amy. I remember hearing my Daddy say when I was young that he never got hungry until he ate. He said he would never get hungry if he never started eating each day. I obviously take after my Daddy. I seem to be able to go a long time without eating. I might get hungry, but it seems to pass and then I can go for hours without eating. I did Carbohydrate Addicts years ago and I did it eating only one meal a day. It's a shame I didn't know about IF back then. It was nothing for me to lose a lb a day back then.

I also agree with you that the weightloss is fantastic. And if I had known the health benefits when I did this 9 years ago, I would never have stopped eating this way. I would do that again if I it wasn't for the meds especially the Metformin that I take although I've thought of coming off the Metformin which my doctor would have no problem with because of the side effects I experience from it.

Good luck on your journey

wvuchick 03-27-2012 09:13 AM

Mizzthingaling - I'm glad you are back and feeling better.

PrincessSophia - Welcome back and I'm glad you enjoyed your vacay.

Welcome amyrue!

Well I had a great fast yesterday. I actually fasted for more like 26 hours.
And for the week I lost a total of 3.6 lbs. I was so shocked I weighed myself twice! :woohoo:

Now only 6.6 lbs to Onederland. I'm thinking I just might beat my May 15th goal date!! :dancer:

And to top it off I am leaving work early (to get an MRI) but I should still get home much earlier than usual! :D All in all, I'd say its going to be a pretty good day!

Have a great day everyone!

Italiannie 03-27-2012 11:33 AM

Amyrue- Welcome!
wvuchick - 3.6 is AMAZING!
pattygirl - Getting off your meds would be a huge victory. We look forward to seeing you achieve that goal.

I'm down 1 lb. Weight is coming off slowly. I'm seeing anywhere from 2-4lb per month. That will do, as this is just how I live now and other than going lighter on carbs, I don't do too much restriction.

I've lost 15lbs since mid December. Not bad when you consider the ease of the plan, several holidays and a vacation.

We all just need to stay true to our plan and the rest will happen.

Have a great IF day, everyone!

Welcome amyrue and good luck on your journey to great health (and weight loss) :welcome:

Wow wvuchick, congrats on your big loss!! how wonderful.. have a great day :cheer:

Pattygirl, I also would have liked to have found IF years ago, but Im thinking I wasnt ready..unlike a lot of you I have always been told to eat everything off my plate, in fact if I didnt, when i was little, I would get in trouble..but now Im an adult and I know better.

Italiannie, 1lb weight loss is great, good job on your total 15lbs!! I am learning that its all about staying on track most of the time and learning that theres not just 1 way of doing IF. :coffee:

Today I am feeling soo good..All of my pants are falling off and my hubby told me yesterday that I have lost a lot of weight, that felt nice. When I started IF on the last days of Jan, I didnt see myself here so fast and being so easy..im so happy :spin:
Yesterday I did a 24 1/2 hr fast.
Happy, successful day to everyone!!

wvuchick 03-27-2012 01:39 PM

Italiannie - At your height and weight a 1 lb loss is great! Keep up the good work!

Esmi - Way to go on the 24 1/2 hour fast. I love it when other people notice our losses. the girls at work told me they could really tell this morning how much I had lost. My pants I am wearing today I had already taken in 4 inches and my friend told me today that my pants are getting too big again. Made me happy.

35X35 03-27-2012 02:29 PM

Hey all :) Welcome to the newcomers!

esmi -- way to go on the 24+ hour fast. It's nice when our wonderful hubbies notice isn't it. That was sweet :)

wvuchick -- way to go on your huge loss! I can't wait to see you get to onderland, it's so close!

Italiannie -- 1lb is nothing to shake a stick at. Whenever I start to think 1lb isn't much I just make sure to check out the 1lb packages of ground beef when I go to the supermarket. It helps put it in perspective because it's A LOT really.

I'm doing well - I broke my fast a bit early today (17 hours) with big spinach salad because I was SO hungry. Other than that, still doing Fast-5 and hoping to see a loss this week. God knows I've been on plan lol

Hope everyone else is doing well :)

banananutmuffin 03-27-2012 06:15 PM

I've been continuing to sporadically IF. Don't know how else to say it, since my scheduled is so varied. Typically, I fast between 12 to 16 hours most days. Sometimes I go as long as 24, but not often (maybe once a week). Sometimes I don't fast at all, and I just eat smaller meals that day (or I consider it a higher calorie day, since I do some calorie cycling, too).

I combine this all with a paleo/primal style diet (fairly low carb, I sometimes eat potatoes or rice) and no exercise.

Thus far, it's working. I've dropped about 2 pounds in the past two weeks, and overall I feel pretty good. Which is saying something, because it's almost impossible for me to lose weight.
