January 2003 Exercise Challenge

Okay, here we go with a NEW YEAR AND A NEW MONTH.

For you Old Timers you know the drill, count 'em up and then pledge ‘em. Anyone new that would like to join our challenge here's what you do. Calculate the number of minutes that you will exercise for the month of January and make that pledge right here. You are only competing with yourself and the challenge is to complete the minutes on or before January 31st. Please don’t be intimidated by some of our gals total minutes, we’ll get there someday or you may be happy where you are! You may post your minutes daily, weekly or at any time of the month, we try to stay with the format of listing your minutes from the previous post less what you have to subtract and then your ending balance. (200 min – 35 = 165 then the next day start with 165 – 35 = 130) Makes it easier if everyone is on the same format. On Mondays I will try to post an update for everyone. All right, here we go!

I am pledging 690 minutes – that’s 30 minutes for everyday, Monday thru Friday, for January.

chrim32 01-01-2003 10:37 AM

This sounds like a great way to track exercise Semo. I can use all the motivation I can get to keep moving so I'd like to join in. I will pledge 1000 minutes for the month of January.

FLYINGFIT 01-01-2003 10:47 AM

Good Morning to everyone! I pledge 1200 minutes for the month of January.

I wanted to let you all know that thanks to the December challenge I lost 5 pounds. To do this in the month of December, with all those goodies around is a real accomplishment for me. I think the prior 2 Decembers I gained between 5 and 10 pounds that I had to face on Jan. 1st. I hope this month's challenge is as successful for myself and for everyone else that joins.

And now I'm off to the treadmill.

Good Luck!
Angie

Good Morning Everyone! Can you believe that we are already going into the first weekend of January 2003! We have already decided that we are going to get fit this year and we are off to a good start. Welcome SkyBlue, we're glad that you decided to join our group and I think you may be suprised how much this thread will help.

I'm a morning person so I try to get my exercise in first thing (then I don't have to think about it again for the day). I'm posting 30 min (2 Mile Walk Away the Pounds) for this morning I also did some weights but really wasn't long enough to count.

625 - 30 = 595

I love to see these numbers go DOWN.

FLYINGFIT 01-03-2003 10:36 AM

Hello to everyone!

Dec 2-45 mins. treadmill/30 mins. lower body tape

Did anyone see Oprah yesterday w/ Bob Greene on her recent 33 pound weight loss? Very inspiring. They are telling everyone to customize your own program to meet you fitness goals. Must be working for her.. she looks great!

All the better reason to get on that treadmill...

Angie

DNW 01-03-2003 12:30 PM

I have been sick since right before New Year's so I will have to play catch up this weekend and I hope I can. I went back to work yesterday and I am home sick again today....bummer:mad:

Hi all! Too cold for a walk tonight, so I used my bowflex for the first time in a long time. Did the easiest workout, and it only took 23 minutes, so then I had a bright idea to use up 2 more minutes doing squats. Duh.....I won't be able to walk tomorrow. But, the sense of accomplishment makes up for the pain, right? haha

mia_12_23 01-04-2003 04:00 AM

Hi everyone! Just went for a walk, which I thought was quite long, looked at the clock when I got home and it was only 15 minutes! I hate that. But at least it I loosened up my thighs, which are killing me after doing those squats the other night. :dizzy:
Good job to everyone!! Let's all keep up the good work!:strong: :strong:

chrim32 01-05-2003 04:53 PM

I was planning to walk for 30-45 min. but it was colder than I realized. So only made it for 20 min.

deadnursewife, I hope you're feeling better.

DNW 01-05-2003 04:58 PM

Today I Hate New Jersey

Still sick...and so is my sister...now we are thinking it is the lousy, rotten, polluted Jersey air since I am itching like crazy...I was telling my sister, and she agreed that in year's past we would get a respite from our allergies in the deep winter, but since our state is so polluted, we don't even have that down time anymore...gotta get away from here soon! But right now I'm going to take an Allegra.

Going to exercise tomorrow morning no matter what 'cause I feel like crap.

Love to all of you!

Bev 01-05-2003 09:55 PM

Hi, Is it too late to join? I think this really help me to exercise.

SkyBlue 01-06-2003 09:59 AM

870-40=830

Still walking and lifted a few weights. I had a sick day Saturday so I'm a little behind already. I ordeed a Leslie Sansone tape from Amazon but it won't be here for a week still. I want to check out a new gym since my old one closed but I'm just too shy to really want to go workout in front of a bunch of people I don't know.

Hope you're feeling better deadnursewife. Keep up the good work everybody !

It's my Life, you most certainly can join us, anyone can jump in at anytime. We don't like excuses of having to wait.

Monday, Jan 6th

595 - 30 = 565

SkyBlue, I really like the WATP tapes, I thought they would be to easy but find that it gets my heart rate up and I feel that I get a good workout. The only thing that I hate is her laugh. :dizzy: But I guess you can get sick of anything after so long. (think that would work with ice cream?)

See ya'll tomorrow.

nettie34 01-06-2003 10:46 AM

Hello, exercise buddies,
This is off topic, but I'm wondering what kind of eating plans (if any) you are on, and if they work. I find so much info on dieting and eating right on the internet, and it overwhelms me. I've tried keeping a food journal, but for some reason, I sabotage myself by day's end, so I've given it up. Also, how often do you weigh yourself? My weight fluctuates so much.....as much as 6 pounds from day to day, that I don't know what weight to go with. I'll appreciate any help or advice any of you can give me!
Thanks,
Annette

Bev 01-06-2003 01:24 PM

I would like to join you in the exercise challenge. Hopefully it will help me get off my butt. I will do 600 minutes of exercise this month.

FLYINGFIT 01-06-2003 01:26 PM

HI all!

Let me get caught up on my times:

Dec 4-45 mins treadmill
Dec 5-45 mins treadmill

1035-90=945

SEMO 01-06-2003 02:06 PM

Flying Fit, I updated your total, I'm sure that you meant Jan on those dates. Yea, I know, what happen to December.

Nettie, we really haven't disscussed what programs we're on, but I have found that for me this works. I just do the best that I can at each meal and eat as low calorie and low fat as I can. Once a week I have a free meal, I eat what I want and try not to make a pig of myself. But without exercise I cannot maintain or show a weight loss. At 53 this seems to work for me. BTW lost 35 lbs doing this and it's been slow. I know that I'm not going to journal or keep up with points so this is the way that I have decided to go. I think that is the key to this whole thing is finding something that you can maintain throughout your life. Good luck on finding something that will work for you.

It's my Life, I can't speak for others but reporting my minutes sure helps me stay with an exercise regiment. I know if I slack off one day that I have to make it up somewhere else. I hope it helps you as much as it has me.

GringaGordita 01-06-2003 03:21 PM

okay, better late than never, but here I am. I'm pledging 1400 minutes for January. Even though I'm starting late, I've got my normal routine down, so I should be able to post my exercise thus far.

Jan. 1: 1400 - 45 min cardio= 1355
Jan. 2: 1355 - 45 min cardio - 50 min yoga=1260
Jan. 3: 1260- 40 min cardio= 1220
Jan. 4: 1220 - 110 min yoga=1110
Jan. 5: 1110 - 40 min cardio=1070
Jan. 6: 1070 - 45 min cardio=1025

1025 minutes remaining

nettie34 01-06-2003 08:18 PM

Thanks, Semo. I think I've decided to just eat more good foods, and try to cut out the crappy ones. I am not good with menus, points or journals. When I feel restricted, I think my subconscious kicks into overdrive and eats like a hog! I'm with you on the exercise......the only time I've ever seen results was when I was working out regularly.:)

chrim32 01-06-2003 11:51 PM

Hi everyone. Made it to the gym tonight. 30 min. on the treadmill, 30 min. on stationary bike. The numbers are moving down.

890 - 60 = 830

SEMO 01-07-2003 09:41 AM

Good morning ladies. A big welcome to Gringa, you are already off to a great start.

Just a REMINDER to anyone that would like to join us, you can start at anytime, just count the remaining days of this month and calculate the number of minutes that you will exercise and start there. NO EXCUSES OF HAVING TO WAIT UNTIL FEBRUARY! I know I keep repeating this but I want to make sure that everone understands that they can start today. If you wait until next month that's over three weeks lost

Tuesday, January 7th

565 - 30 =535

GringaGordita 01-07-2003 11:16 AM

Here's today's stats:
1025 min - 43 minutes cardio - 50 minute yoga = 932

I've already done the cardio, and i'm heading to yoga at lunch.

I love this challenge, it's great to watch the numbers go down. Very motivating!

Bev 01-07-2003 01:50 PM
