I'm actually starting the 17 day diet tomorrow. I bought the book at walmart for $23 and it looked convincing. At the same time, what do I have to lose by giving it a shot except a few pounds, right? Has anyone had significant results with this book? Has anyone come to any "bumps in the road" in following the diet? I haven't read much of the book yet but I like the fact that there is only 17 minutes of moderate exercise a day. I am a very busy college student and full time nurses aid. I have very little time to myself to exercise.
I bought the book...seems a little too strict for me,however it does make good points,I have definitely taken cues from the book and incorporate it in my diet. Good luck to all of you!
May I join in here? Wow great to see everyone's results with this program!!
Just got the book today and read through the Accelerate cycle. I'm going to start this tomorrow. I've been going pretty low or complex carb the last few weeks anyway, sticking mainly to oats, quinoa, barley etc so it's not such a stretch to go protein/veggie only. Only fell of track when hubby was home for a few days and bought a loaf of rye bread. Damn that delicious bread!! Anyway, I'm usually fine if I don't keep stuff like that in the house- which I do NOT when he's out of town.
I will admit that I'm a little worried about sticking with something this strict for the whole 17 days but... here goes!
I just mixed green tea & spearmint with the juice of a lemon for a pitcher of iced tea. I think I'll be more inclined to drink that at this time of year than hot tea. Does anyone know if Stevia is an ok substitute for the Truvia in these recipes?
thanks for the encouraging words!
well day 1 was a little sketchy- started off badly because I just CANNOT get a coffee down without at least a little bit of cream. I guess I just wasn't mentally prepared for that. I am not prepared to give up my coffee right now. I gave up those fabulous flavoured creams a while back and that was hard enough! What are they putting in that stuff anyway that's so darn addictive!!
Anyway, I stuck with it pretty good except for having some olives with my eggplant/chicken bake dinner - not a huge crime but....
then just totally lost it later on with a 2 handfuls of popcorn!! Gaaaghhhh
Oh well, not going to beat myself up about it and I'm going to just carry on and if I have to go a few extra days with this cycle then I will. I had that temptation to just say - oh forget it, I blew it-- but NO, not going to sabotage myself before I even give it a chance.
I think this takes some good solid planning and psyching up.
Went first thing yesterday morning and stocked up on more (allowable) fruits, some more veggies, fish, chicken and ground turkey. So I've got lots of variety for meals and lunch. Yogurt is easy because I've eaten plain balkan yogurt all my life-- I don't actually like flavoured yogurt. But I have to say, I do find the snacks a little restrictive. No nuts, no granola bars or bran snacks, no bananas... have to clean my glove compartment out for my next out of town trip. I always carry something in there so I don't get overly hungry when I'm on the road and pull into a drive thru!! I guess if I can be proactive enough to do that, then there's hope!
