Hi Everyone!

I am new to this forum.

I know the current empahasis on on low-carbing, but after much research, after knowing what worked for me in the past, after lowcarbing, lowcaloring, food exchanging and whatever, I am finally returning to what worked best for me years ago, and what gave me great health...a LOW FAT DIET.

For me that means counting fat grams, because I tried the percentage of fat method and I tried fat grams, and I like the fat gram method (more food variety).

I do love Susan Powter though. I just did some research on the internet to see if she's still around, and according to a 2000 article in a Minneapolis newspaper, she's alive and well, and divored again, living in Minneapolis and teaching at a fitness center. I sure wish she'd be more high profile and write more cookbooks. Her recipes are so excellent.

I am using as my bible a few books on low fat eating: T-Factor Diet (revised and updated edition), Eating by the Book, and Big Fat Lies.

Unfortunately, I gave away a lot of good low fat cookbooks, but I hope to resume my collection. I love to cook and eat!

This is a great board and a great topic. It's just too bad low fat eating is falling by the wayside lately, in lieu of the low carbo thing. You know you can still be a gourmet, yet cook low fat!

I've tried them all, and if you avoid sugars and a lot of white flour products, low fat eating really works!

Latisia,

In the late 80's I lost a lot of weight just by lowering my fat intake ( counting fat grams), and avoiding sugars and a lot of white flour.

Then in the 90's I got lazy, went off, gained back weight and the rest is history. I tried every diet there is, the last being low carb, and I've finally realized that the greatest health I ever had, and the easiest way of "dieting" I ever did, was just reducing fat. I didn't count calories or anything, I just counted fat grams (T Factor Diet).

I now know that this will be it for the rest of my life. Counting fat grams is easy and works for me.

I have a few really good books on the subject.

I've lost 30 pounds so far and will be quite happy to just lose 5 more. But I'm in no rush. I lose very slowly because I eat a lot of food. Probably could lose faster if I limited my food intake, but the deprivation just isn't worth it to me. Sometimes I lose 1/2 pound a week, sometimes I lose 1 pound in a month. Sometimes I don't lose. It doesn't matter. This is really for my health in the end. It's a way of life I will maintain forever, so I'm really in no big rush.

Also, I should mention I don't exercise, which is just awful. I just ordered an exercise book called The Spark off Amazon.com, which is a well-rounded program I can live with. Needless to say, if I exercised the weight would probably just drop off! I am really motivated to start an exercise program, just for my health alone.

hello all

hope we are all op today:) i am, but took a minor detour at dinner, but im ok.

ny gal

i used to count fat grams, now i sorta do but dont keep exact track. i try to cut back on lotsa starch&eat lean protein&veggies& since i cant stand low fat products exceppt ff miracle whip, i save my g for full fat products so my grams add up fast, but im ok with that.

hi tisha!
