Best advice I can give you though is do not give up if you don't get those shooting games right away. They take practice and you're only instantly good at that genre if you've been playing it for a while. Not sure where you're at in your gaming journey but I've seen too many women get interested in a game and give up after the first week because they just don't get it. It makes me very sad... That hand eye coordination takes practice.

Nah, I'll stick with my Wii.

While the shooting games can be fun, I think the majority of my gaming will be spent on games like Mario Kart and the Sims, or dancing games.
PC wise, I used to play WoW and I've played the sims a ton. And Roller-coaster Tycoon. But I haven't played on a game system much in years. I think I gravitate toward games where I take care of people/characters.
