I just finished watching it, and it was very interesting. A lot of stuff I believe to be fact (yes, even as a biologist, or what he would call "real scientist") was lies fed to me by the government. All of what he said makes sense from a biological/anatomical standpoint. I don't know why I never came to these conclusions myself!
Right now I'm thinking about revamping my diet to a lower carb higher protein diet, and of course upping my exercise. I don't know what my blood sugar is, but I plan to keep it low so it doesn't get kicked into those fat cells!
this documentary was great, just watched it a few nights ago on netflix also.
i have started to lower my carbs, i won't say low carb but i am keeping it under 100, has been around 50-60 the past two days(since i started) but i am more concerned with the bad carbs, then what occurs in fruits and veggies
but yes, great documentary and i think everyone should give it a chance
While I liked the movie, and it got me to thinking and realizing how low carb has been the only diet that has worked for me, I feel that a little less sarcasticness/rudeness?? would have made it better. I understand the points he is making and why he is being snarky, I just think it slams everyone else as well. While i feel like LC is a great choice for me and for many, I don't think people should be targeted as stupid or brainwashed for eating differently (he did address the point once, but again in a rude manor)
The points were great though, and I liked how he was able to solidify the fact that cholestoral and fat dont make you fat, and in fact less fat means blood sugar issues etc. Anyways id still give it a recommendation just really turned off by how the information was presented.
I just saw the movie and while I liked it and appreciated his taking on the topic, I agree with you Spaghetticat, I thought he was too snarky. I think the graphics in general and the insulin blood animation were brilliant though. I'm even going to show dh so he'll stop freaking out about me eating all the eggs and coconut oil.
Tom Laughton is a humourist and that is his style for presentation of the information that can often put people to sleep. I remember when the only information you could get was by long and hard research and a handful of books. Now, many people are blogging, tweeting and doing podcasts in support of LCing, often bringing latest news and research to us without having to search through endless articles and falling asleep. lol
I follow Tom Laughton and Dr Eades, Steven Parker and a whole bunch of bloggers and tweeters who support LC. I love it when there's a bit of humour or tongue in cheek along with the information.
Oh wow, I just caught it on netflix last night and was going to post it as a recommendation. I thought it was great, particularly the expert interviews and historical description of how we got to embrace the low fat movement as a society (and how it completely screwed us). Nothing new for me after reading books like Good Calories Bad Calories, but I enjoyed watching the documentary.
It was a great documentary and I felt like I had a "duh" moment when watching it. I have been concerned about diabetes because both sides of my family have it mainly because of diet. So I was thinking already about putting myself on a diabetes friendly diet to help prevent it. After watching this video I cut the carbs, haven't even focused on calories, and have lost 3 lbs in 5 days.
That movie was the final push I need to get started. I am not doing this because of that movie I have wanted to start atkins for a while but it was just that extra little push. I really enjoyed it and it did make me do even more research on the subject. I am going to order gary taubes book to read when school gets out this summer.

I think the point was as a society we have been brainwashed into thinking that fat is bad carbs are good and its no where near as true as we have been made to believe. I dont think people are stupid for following what the guidelines out there are because in some cases it does work. but I do think that when it comes to government they are for the money and by the money. If low carb takes off more and they start admitting that its good to lower your carbs and have more fat they will be endorsing that to. Just so happens we knew it was true before they admitted it. and that would take a lot of people admitting they where wrong. Could you imagine hearing the American heart association admitting to people that they have been wrong and they could actually have been causing worse health rather then helping?
