Woot! Congratulations on the engagement! Your ring sounds lovely -- mine is a 1k solitaire round stone set in white gold with some small diamonds on the band. My wedding band matches it and I wear them on the same finger.

1. I usually don't clean my ring very often -- once a month or so, when it starts looking a little dingy. I use regular jewelry cleaner, though I have also brought it to the place where my fiance bought it and had it professionally cleaned and buffed twice and it looked just as it did when he gave it to me :-)

2. I usually DON'T wear my engagement ring or diamond wedding band in the shower/pool/beach etc. When I was on my honeymoon, I'd remove them and put them in the safe in the room until we were done on the beach and then I'd put them back on after I showered. I also don't wear my diamond rings to the gym or when I weight train at home because it is my nightmare to look down and realize I knocked the stone loose! In these situations, I rock my plain gold wedding band that my husband had made for me in Albania -- it's plain yellow gold, so I usually wear it on my right hand when I wear my diamond set on the left, but I transfer it to my left hand in these situations.

3. I've (thank God) never lost the ring. I don't know what would happen, except that I'd cry a lot.

4. I have a jewelry box that I put all of my jewelry in and I have a spot in there for the engagement ring and wedding band. I try to always put the rings in there if I take them off so there's no guessing ab where I left them. But if I'm not near the jewelry box or I can't get to it to put the rings away, I will take a tiny bowl from my cabinet, put it on the kitchen table and put the rings in there so I know exactly where they are. Other times, I will actually make my husband hold them on his pinky finger while I cook or something lol and he's super careful about it because they were so expensive lol.

Anyways, I had some questions:

1. How do you guys clean your rings? I have heard about windex and a toothbrush, the jewel jet steam cleaner etc etc. What works best.

2. Do you guys wear your rings in the shower, spa, ocean, pool? I would rather wear mine then lose it, but I don't want to damage it.

3. Has anyone every lost their ring? What happened?

4. When you do take your ring off, do you have tricks for remembering where you put it?

On the cleaning question, I take mine to the jeweler to clean every six months when I get it checked out for insurance, also. Occasionally I clean it with a damp microfiber towel if it looks dingy. I avoid toothbrushes because one of my friends pulled the stone right out of hers with a toothbrush - one of the bristles got caught in the setting and she didn't notice. Popped the stone out right along with getting the bristle unstuck!

On the wear all the time question I'm a little different than everyone else - I don't sleep in mine, I don't shower/swim/exercise in mine. I will wash dishes with them on sometimes, but not often as they are a little loose after weight loss. I exercise at home, so it isn't like I'm taking them off at the gym or anything. I have a designated spot in my jewelery box where I put them when I take them off - anytime they come off at home they go there. If I'm going somewhere with a planned activity I wouldn't wear the ring for I leave it at home, if something comes up by surprise the rings go into the small pill box I carry in my purse and then are locked in the trunk in a separate place from the purse. I've considered keeping a chain in my purse for to wear them on if I take them off, I just haven't gotten one yet.

I never lost a ring, but I did break my rings when I was married to my first husband. I picked up a heavy box at work and the shanks cracked through on both rings inside my finger at the palm of my hand. Cut my finger pretty badly. That is why I'm so careful to not wear my current rings in situations where they might get broken.

Congrats! To answer your questions:
1.) I bought jewlery cleaner that comes w/ a brush, it works really good.
2.) I wear mine EVERYWHERE, I never take it off. Swimming, shower, dishes, whatever, I still wear it.
3.) Never lost mine thankfully, my husband would kick my butt.
4.) I never take mine off! I'm afraid I'll lose it.

As for cleaning- I'm like you in the fact that I'm a bit obsessed. I clean my rings constantly- usually several times a week if not daily. I guess I look at it that if DH put money into them- they should look as good as possible as much as possible! I use the Conossuers (sp?) little red tube a lot, it's great for quick touch ups, and, yes, I do travel with it. (Obsess much?) I also have a little ultrasonic. For the absolute best- I have heard that the Jeweljet is the way to go. Someday I'm going to have to get myself one! Be careful with brushes- I only use baby tooth brushes, and avoid toothpaste, baking soda, etc. because it can damage the metal.

I recommend not wearing a ring in the pool or ocean- both environments can damage the gold, and if it were to slip off- eep! I don't wear mine in the shower either- mainly because I don't want it to catch in my hair, etc. I also take mine off for anythign that could damge them or gunk them up- cleaning, cooking, washing dishes, working out, camping, putting on lotion, etc. I also don't wear them when I sleep (comfort issue- my fingers swell!)

I've never lost my rings and I've had them for 3 1/2 years.

To keep from losing them- I have a special place to put them in each room I take them off in- in the kitchen they go in a dish on the windowill, in the bathroom they go into a dish in the medicine cabinet and next to my bed they have their own little box. I also have a few cheaper rings to wear when I'm doing something for extended periods of time- camping, hiking, kayaking, vacation, etc. If I ever have to take them off away form home- they go into the tampon pocket of my purse

Congrats- your ring sounds gorgeous!

Never never wear your ring in the ocean - when we went to Hawaii, I took mine off and left them in the condo before we went surfing.

My husband (after much advise) didn't do so, and lost his. Once you lose your ring in the ocean - it's gone...

I'm getting him a new ring for christmas.
