Okay - those of you who are "lucky" enough to have big shiny green tomatoes... try this recipe... and let me know if it turns out

tamarlynn..i have several big shiny green tomatoes...i just might have to try it. Thank for the suggestion. I may give it a few more days and if no red...then pick and see. My garden is looking great. My squash seems happier since i've taken down the trellis system...flowers aren't breaking off now.

woooohooooo...my cuke plant has a small little cuke happily growing. Can't wait..now if only my dill will grow back...i think a bug got a hold of the dill and stripped the plant raw. I trimmed it back. One the cuke grows it would be nice to do a little dill and cuke with some red onions and rice vinegar. Still very frustrated about the zuccinni plant. Seems like the flowers keep popping off without starting a zuccinni...i'll give it some time. I did cut the trellis rope and now the squash is free to creep where ever it wants. Also, lots of baby tomatoes. I used my first jalapeno pepper last night in a grilled chicken recipe with fresh basil, parsley and oregano...it was yummies!!!!

Just got in from the garden. Squash is growing so fast...I picked a few yesterday and got more today and there will be more tommorow. I have trouble spotting zuc. ( 1st year) so they are getting pretty big by the time i find them. Tomatoes are never going to turn. We do have one plant trying to die..neighbor sprayed round up near my plants. I did find a tiny melon on my plants..not sure if its watermellon or cantaloupe yet. the vines have all ran together!! Guess I will be busy for the next few weeks freezing squash.

tamara _ thanks for the recipe I think i will try it. I have been baking mine in the oven but not coating them. They are still getting brown good.

We've gotten several days of great rain. So I now have loads of crookneck squash growing and I've seen a couple of small tomatoes forming from all of the blooms. The zucchini plants look good but no veggies yet. I took the camera out to take a picture this morning, but got out there and the batteries were dead. Instead I tied up my tomatoes plants that had grown since last week. Maybe a picture later this week, I'm quite happy with it.

I went back out and found a few more melons. Any advice would be great on the melons. WE have never done melons before. How long does it take them to mature?? Right now most are larger than golf balls.

a neighbor gave me a recipe for baked green tomatoes..just wet the tomatoes after slicing and sprinkle lightly with bread crumbs and ff cheese. She says they are wonderful. She said to stick them under the broiler for a few min. GIving them a try tommorow night.
I do have 4 trying to ripen now. So maybe by the 4th we will have ripe big boy tomatoes.

Hi All!

I started a vegetable garden this year too. It's been rather frustrating going. I attribute it to the fact that we just moved into a new housing development, and the soil is a bit diffrent from where we moved from.

But I was able to encourage a few seeds to sprout, spinaches, peas, cucumbers, tomatoes, and brussel sprouts. I see now I should have planted more peas! I love peas! The tomatoes came from a store bought one that had sat on my counter a little to long (it never seem to go bad) and one day, it startled me by looking like it had worms comming out of it!

I am loving the spinach! But I regret not planting zuccinni (sp?) Do you think it's to late?

My garden is also getting me to get up and get out of the house, which is actually doing me some good! It's great to find a place to talk dirt!

heavenly...prepare for next year...start a compost pile and then next fall when you are done with the spring crop...lay down a good layer of compost. Compost is great way to get the soil going!
