American Idol
It starts again on Tuesday at 8pm. It will be on for 2 hours and will come on again on Wednesday for another 2 hours. It tries to take over your life like there aren't any other shows to watch or things to do. I used to LOVE this show. The last two seasons America hasn't gotten it right. Also, I hate the first few weeks because all they do is pick on people. I usually don't really watch it until Hollywood. I am truly debating if I will watch it this season.
My favorite American Idols--Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. |
I'm looking forward to the new season. Last year though I got bored with the many, many weeks of audition shows. Most likely I'll have to change my gym times to earlier in the day to free up my evenings on Tues. and Wed. for AI. Yes, I'm hooked, LOL.
My favorite was Carrie Underwood. |
I actually like the first two weeks and the last two the best. The first two cause it's the best comedy on TV, and the second because they're then down to some of the best singers and worth watching.
Yeah, they make fun of people, but it's all part of the show. And really, a lot of the people on there that they do make fun of are people that went on there knowing they were going to get made fun of. Anyone really think William Hung thought he was the best thing since sliced bread? That guy HAD to know he couldn't sing worth a spit. |
Love it.
I don't enjoy the first few weeks watching the people going for their 15 minutes of fame. Once they get to Hollywood I really get into it. |
I'll watch it this year because I'll either be in hospital getting my knee replaced or at home recuperating. I really am watching Simon C. rather than the contestants!
|
I LOVE Simon! Paula gets on my nerves and Randy is alright. Not watching the first few weeks allows me to continue watching TBL. No I don't have Tivo.
|
 Simon Cowell...gotta love that man.
I feel about the same as you Shay, but am hopelessly addicted to it when it starts. Some of my favorites on AI were George Huff, Melinda Doolittle (whatever happened to this vocal wonder???), LaToya London, and Jennifer Hudson |
That's what I mean when I say America got it wrong the last two seasons. Chris Daughtry--I forgot to mention that I love him and Elliott Yamin too--he should have won Season 5 and Melinda should have won Season 6. Well on to Season 7. I know Noelle I vote and everything. Because I'm still up really late I can get in there and vote a lot for my favorites.
|
I watch the beginning of it for the laughs and that's it. Never watched a whole season thru after one it got old for me.
|
I totally agree...it is obvious the show is rigged...if it wasn't KELLIE PICKLER would have won! That gal had everything...brains....looks....personality....talent...sad story....she had it all!
She has even added a little to her...ummm..."assets"...since the show ;) |
EZMONEY--That brings up a good point. Besides Carrie and Kelly the rest of the winners have not done that fantastic. I never really was a Fantasia Barrino fan. I didn't see what was so great about her voice. Now the ones voted off that's a whole different story. Many of them are doing well for themselves!
|
24 hours and it starts.
Let's hope for a good season. |
Omigosh we LOVE AI!! One of my twin daughters (12 years old) can't wait until it starts! As others said, the first few weeks is HYSTERICAL! Prime time couldn't ever compete with it!
When the crazy stuff goes away, the talent is awesome. We liked Gina Glockson last year - we are rock fans and she just had it as far as we were concerned. She looked exactly like our oldest son's very brief girlfriend at the time! AND SIMON!!! Sigh - I am 52, very overweight and married for 30 years but he is OH SO GORGEOUS!!!! Bring it on AI!! We are READY!!! |
Momtofivesweeties--You are the first person that I have ever heard speak on Simon's looks.
Did anyone hear that Simon might be leaving the show? I gotta go do some research. |

Well I have 2 favs from tonight's show.
2 guys from Delaware. The 20 year old from Dover, very nice as well. Also the 17 year old from Smyrna. Don't remember what he sang. The guy who got his chest waxed that looked so painful. Simon is very easy on the eyes but he needs to get rid of that white t-shirt he had on tonight. |
Well I watched on commercials from The Biggest Loser so I was at a huge disadvantage. I'm unable to watch it tomorrow because I will be working. That's okay because I'm waiting for Hollywood!
|
I watched AI for the 1st time ever tonight just to see what all the hype was about. Ok, I can see why people get hooked! Although I could have happily gone my whole life without ever seeing the guy who shaved his chest wearing that little outfit he wore for the audition! Eww!
|
I am in the first 20 minutes of the show and that guy that sang "Go Down Moses" almost had me spewing water out of my nose...he was terrible. I think that other guy "Yuka" was a total fake. Just my 2 cents... back to the show. :D
|
LOL! My husband was talking about Simon's t-shirt tonight - like why can't he dress better? It's his signature outfit - he's just "too cool" you know? He is so cocky I couldn't stand being with him for 5 minutes, but I'll just gaze at him on the show! It was SO funny tonight and yep, that guy who sang "Go Down Moses" was hysterical. What about that freaky gal with the glitter and MEAN as a snake?? WOW! Even my 21 year old "macho" son was looking at her like, "What the ******?
It was great though - we're ready for the season, that's for sure! Lori |
That Paula Stalking guy was creepy! What on earth was the Chest Hair guy thinking? More tonight! Yippee!
|
I just can't stomach the first few weeks from the mocking of people and breaking hearts and obvious ploys for 15 mins of fame (glitter girl - or boy - had a hard time telling - what was that all about?) to the backstabbing, scheming, crying hollywood part. I like to wait till the final 12, then I'm in.
|
Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like this show (just curious)? I also don't like things like The Amazing Race, etc. "reality" shows (even though I know American Idol isn't in that category). I don't really like the new types of game shows either like Singing Bee, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, Deal or No Deal, etc. Maybe its just me?
|
EZ~still stuck on Kellie, huh? Oh well, I don't usually watch AI, but I do keep up on the forum. It is almost as much fun, and then I know who gets the boot.
I am looking forward to EZ being hung up on the pretty blondes...gotta love it! |
I love American Idol. I know it's stupid, but I love it anyway. Mindless entertainment. After teaching Shakespeare to teenagers all day, I need something mindless. I even get into the first weeks of auditions. Sometimes I feel bad for the contestants who really do seem sincere, but mostly it's pretty funny. Yes, the "Go Down, Moses" guy was hilarious. I keep thinking of the way he sang the "let my people go" line.
The only time I've ever actually voted was when Elliott Yamin was on, because he's from Richmond and I kept thinking I remembered seeing him working at that pharmacy, because that's the pharmacy I used for years! Plus, I thought (and still think) that his voice is fantastic. Last season, Jordin Sparks bored the pee out of me. She can sing, but I never found her remotely interesting. |
OK, I was actually a little gleeful that it was on last night. I love the audition weeks. Once we get into the regular season, I end up fast-forwarding most of the show so I can just watch the singers I actually like. That really helps with the finale too. I love Tivo!
I was seriously annoyed at the William Dafoe chick (heh!) last night. I kept saying "Shut up, shut up, shut up). Her speaking voice was so cringe-inducing. And the Star Wars girl at the end, I thought she was so cute right up until her tirade began. I wonder if the refused people can ever watch the show from a more objective perspective and see that it was in fact that they were not good singers. I know some people just go on, knowing they're bad singers just for the 15 minutes of fame, but some you can tell are genuinely upset. |
Originally Posted by likenoother: I DVR'd AI and watched it this morning. Now Star Wars chick really, really got on my nerves. No, they didn't reject you because you weren't a stereotype... they rejected you because you can't sing! I mean I am an okay singer, but at least I know that! I would never go on AI and then get pissed off when I didn't make it, because I know I'm not AI material! I just have to wonder.... HOW can someone like that Moses guy go on American Idol and act surprised when they get rejected!? I mean, don't they have any clue that they just don't sound good? Or at least some honest friends/relatives who will nicely tell you... "I don't think you have the right voice for this competition."... ? |
Stalker man was DEFINITELY CREEPY!!! Ugh, I dunno how Paula could just sit there, you could tell she was squirming in her seat. It's a good thing they have those huge security guys in the room! SCARY!
It was hilarious when Simon said "Spiderman movie" I knew exactly where he was going with that Willem Dafoe comment  That girl was a bit over the top. So much for bowing out gracefully huh? Nobody exactly struck me as WOW material, but what I'm really interested to see how that last girl (the sweet, innocent blonde) will fare while in Hollywood and things get cut-throat amongst the contestants. I enjoyed last night's show very much.... and I'm a fan of the Amazing Race as well. That's just me. ;) As for Star Wars girl with the fake hair, hello? It's a SINGING competition! (for the most party anyway.) |
I LOVE this show! To the point that everyone knows not to call during this or The Biggest Loser.
I really feel bad for the people they pick on because for most of them it is obvious they have "issues" of some sort. I don't want to say they have some type of disability because I don't know that for a fact but the "go down moses" guy, star trek girl, and the one with the hair and glitter.......That's why I wait for Hollywood. LisaMarie--I love Elliott Yamin and Jordin is boring. The past two seasons have not been up to par. |
I only watch the auditions the rest of it just gets boring. The auditions always give me a good laugh!! The moses guy and the hairy spartan guy...omg!!! But the moses guy..OMG!!!So darn funny I was laughing to the point where I had tears.
|
Okay, I gotta say, the farmer boy is extremely cute...
Now I live in a very rural farming community so I may be biased... But farm boys are usually very hard working and hard playing! Lots of fun. |
Agreed he was cute. I knew Simon wouldn't like him as he hates country.
Speaking of Simon he was looking very good tonight. I was really surprised when they put the politician guy with the red tie through to Hollywood. The girl Simon said was the best so far was very good. |
The kids and I laughed the hardest tonight at the girl with NO personality. OMG! She made a rock look more interesting! LOL!
And of course the last guy when they all started singing and dancing with him - he was in love with Simon - I guess he likes his looks too!! ;) |
I actually bet that last guy tonite will get to make a record of his song, LOL.
|
I just went and watched Kyle again, the politician guy with the red tie.
I'm on the fence now. I will have a better idea when I hear him sing another song. |
I remember that show with Kellie Pickler. My jaw was literally close to the floor the whole time because I couldn't believe what was coming out of her mouth. I just felt embarrassed for her.
I don't get Jordin Sparks either. There is nothing exceptional about her voice. It's just boring. Nothing special. Why did she win? |
Jordin won because she was really tall and pretty and had an ok voice, but most of all, she was young and could be molded into anything the producers wanted her to be that would net them the most profit. If Blake had won, he would've insisted on doing his own style of music. Again, my 2cents
You guys are killing me! I missed tonight's show due to a WW meeting... but that's OK, the recaps you guys are giving are still quite entertaining. |
::sings:: "I am your bro-ther!! Your best friend for-e-ver!!!"
That guy's definitely going to get a William Hung-style record deal for at least that song. I fully expect to hear it as someone's ringtone within a week. I thought they should've let the virgin boy through. He wasn't great, but they let the car accident chick through and her voice was so not good. Last night's show didn't make me laugh as much as Tuesday's, but I agree with the above poster who cracked up at the girl with no personality. I could tell by her speaking voice that something bad was coming, and boy was it. |
Like Noelle I wasn't able to watch but I too appreciate all of the recaps!
