Does anyone else have a problem with kale containing tons of little garden insects (most likely aphids) I'm not just talking about home grown kale. I just bought some at the store the other day, and when I went to wash it, I noticed it contained so many of them...

I'm sure they wouldn't do you any harm, and washing gets some of them off, but....ew

I was reading articles the other day about how there are bug parts in common foods we eat.

I think I've lost my appetite.

I'll take the low-fat protein. Thanks. And yum.

I used to eat honey cappings - which had bits of bee in them.

The only thing I do not want are parasites that could grow in me...like tapeworms.

Good for weightloss apparently nevertheless....

Kale is tricky because the leaves are folded and have little grooves in them. I suggest soaking the leaves for a few minutes with a natural vegetable cleaner when you get home and then rinse. It might help you avoid seeing a bunch of them!
Little bugs are gross but try to not over think it the foods are really there to nourish you and the bugs just seem to share that mindset

We soak produce in the sink, in salted cold water. Seems to make most of the critters let go. Our last batch of kale from the garden ... was host to quite a nice population. Broccoli gets a LONG soak. Under a plate, too! I've had my share of "indigenous protein".

A soak in a water/vinegar mix should work, too.

I only have that "issue" with plants in general when i buy them from farmer's markets rather than the grocery store, but I think it's worth dealing with for fresher produce. Usually... It is pretty gnarly though.
