Tasty treats and healthy eats

  • Name a couple of your favorite eats that have been helping you lose the weight! Just thought itd be a nice thread to discover some new recipes.
Mine are "breakfast sundae" (i make it for my very picky child) and tuna/avo bowl
4 to 6 oz of plain greek yogurt
    Tbsp honey drizzled
Kashi golean cinnamon crumble, just a few
    1/4 banana
Its also great when i want something sweet. I think it averages 200 calories.

My other go to is a tunafish salad in an avocado bowl
    1/2 avocado pitt removed
Make tunafish however you like, mayo/mustard celery etc
Pile on desired amount on top of avocado and eat with spoon.

Obviously i thrive on simplicity. :P
  • Those sound good!

Not that inspirational, but for me it's baby carrots. I love baby carrots!
    crunchy, sweet, juicy!

    Walnuts, 4 halves, crunchy!

A small bite of something, a bit of cheese or a bite of chicken,
when I start feeling hungry in-between meals. I surprised myself at how
helpful it is to have just a bite of something and a beverage to tide me
over, doesn't really take that much.

  • - A thick slice of lean cheese (we have great cheese where i live!)
    - Green salad with small toasts or with lean cheese
    - Beans cooked from scratch everyday. It helps me feel satisfied for hours on end
  • One other thing I do, I love sweets! cookie dough. So instead, at bedtime,
I mix about a tablespoon of peanut butter with about 1/4 cup of uncooked
oats and a sprinkle of golden raisins, mix real good, and slowly savor each
bite. It's just enough to think of it as cookie dough and I'm happy with it.

  • I'm a dessert fiend, so it's been a challenge to find healthy dessert recipes that I like. A favorite of mine has been this chocolate smoothie recipe from Organic Avenue: Recipes for Life, Made with Love:

    1 1/2 cups nondairy milk
1 ripe fresh or frozen banana
4-5 pitted dates, soaked for 2-3 hours
    3 Tbsp coconut sugar
    2 Tbsp almond butter
    2 Tbsp vegan protein powder
    2 Tbsp raw cacao powder
    1 Tbsp coconut oil
    1 Tbsp cacao nibs
    1/4 tsp vanilla powder
    pinch of salt

You just blend it all together and enjoy. I also love quinoa, vegetables dipped in hummus, baked sweet potatoes, and chia pudding.
  • I have officially jumped on the banana 'ice cream' train.

    The recipe I tried was:

    3 bananas
    3 tbs peanut butter
    1/4 tsp vanilla
    Dash of cinnamon

Cut up the bananas and freeze for an hour or two. Once frozen, blend bananas until creamy 'ice cream' consistency. Add all other ingredients and pulse until mixed. Serve immediately!

It is so great. I didn't eat mine immediately, although it is suggested. I put mine in a twist-close tupperware in the freezer and ate it two scoops at a time, for breakfast or post-workout snack or whatever. It was just so awesome.

That's a great idea, I'm gonna try that with my kid. Maybe even "ice cream for breakfast"
  • To those who do peanut butter, what about trying it out with almond butter? I really like the taste and think it gives a different edge.

I personally find almond butter to be AMAZING. And I'm also a banana ice cream lover. Helps with those late night cravings

Yes. I used to keep a supply in the cabinet of unopened jars. If you keep them long enough, quite a bit of oil rises to the top and can be poured off. That way it is lower fat almond butter or peanutbutter.
