Default Breakfast ideas?

Does anyone have any good breakfast ideas? I'm not much of a breakfast-food eater... any ideas other than cereal, oatmeal, and fruit? Thanks!

I eat egg whites with veggies. I buy the veggies pre-cut and that makes things very easy. 1/3 c. egg whites is only about 25 calories and the protein and veggies are very filling. I use spray instead of oil.

Yes, I have bought egg whites but had a hard time getting past the flavor (or lack thereof) and have since started buying the egg substitutes. It's quick, easy, has good flavor, and low in calories. A good choice for me all around. Other than that I try to change it up, fruit, cereal, yogurt,oatmeal...

I often have 2 FF/SF yogurts, which I partially freeze with about 1/2 cup Fiber One Cereal in it.

I've also been known to eat salad for breakfast, tuna and even chicken breast. It doesn't have to be *typical* breakfast food. If there's something that you like but isn't your average breakfast, who cares? Eat it anyway.

What about a smoothie? I recommend Almond Milk instead of regular milk. I add a banana, some frozen berries and protein powder (I like hemp powder, which has a bit of a nutty flavor). There are lots of protein powders out there, but try to get one that is lower in sugar and high in protein. A smoothie will fill you up and you can even drink it on the way to work.

I agree with rockinrobin....I only eat "breakfast foods" about half of the time, who says you have to have breakfast foods for breakfast anyway? Just eat what you feel like!

I don't like hot foods for breakfast. My breakfast is the same every morning, a fruit/veggie smoothie (spinach and fruit for the most part).

My breakfast of choice lately has been very easy, very inexpensive, very tasty and very portable. Half an English muffin (you can buy 100 calorie ones), 2 slices canandian bacon, one peice fat free slices american cheese and a pre-frozen egg patti. I toast the english muffin first while i microwave my egg for 30 seconds. Once the muffin pops up, i place the canandian bacon on the bottom, then place the egg on top of that, then place the cheese on top of all 3 and nook in the microwave about 15 seconds (to melt the cheese). MMMMMM.....so good!!! And low in calories. About 250 for the whole thing. It will be even less when i go to the store and get my butt some egg whites. Then, i'll make little egg white omlets to put on top. yum yum!!!

I'm with the "why limit yourself to breakfast foods" crowd. But then I often eat breakfast for dinner, too!

Aside from the usual yogurt with fruit, smoothies, etc., try the following:

- whole wheat english muffin - top with whatever you want ... sliced boiled egg, turkey, tuna, ham, cheese ... or some combination of the above

- breakfast "pizza" - same muffin 1/2 topped with diced tomatoes, turkey bacon, and moz. cheese.

- whole grain waffle with peanut butter and fruit

- cottage cheese with fruit

- quinoa - cooked like oatmeal and either sweetened or served with salt & pepper and butter/cheese

- breakfast burritos made with whole wheat tortillas, egg whites, cheese, and salsa

- Crustless quiches - you can add spinach, cheese, mushroom, etc. Make them in paper muffin cups to make them easier to handle.

- Any kind of fruit/veggie bread made low cal / low fat - I make carrot zucchini muffins, but pumpkin muffins, apple carrot muffins, etc. Spread with yogurt cheese or low fat cream cheese.

- grits - either creamy as a hot cereal type thing, or cooked and sliced into blocks and reheated. (yeah, I'm from the south! )

Those are just off the top of my head ... I'm sure there are other variations I can think of, given time!

Fantastic thread! I wish I had something to add but I think lumifan4ever beat me to my suggestion. Oh wait, I can add something! Here, let me quote what nelie had to say when I wanted to know more about her spinach smoothie in another thread.

Quote:
Betsi - I have a vitamix which is a pretty big blender but I've also made these smoothies in a magic bullet type thing (Macys brand version). When I did that, I just stuffed as much spinach as I could into it.

Basically I throw in a few big handfuls of spinach into the blender (4-6 cups), 1/2 frozen banana, 1 cup of frozen berries and water. Lately I've been adding hemp protein powder as well. That is basically it.
I'm looking forward to trying this myself, though I'm curious if it will work with fresh fruit and frozen spinach instead of vice versa since that's what I have in the house. I need to buy some protein powder too, but for now I may sub Carnation Instant Breakfast.

Edited to add: one great way I've found to easily add flavour to things like eggs white without loads of calories are squeeze tube herb/spice blends. The brand I buy at the supermarket is Gourmet Garden but that may be local to my area. I like the Italian Herbs, but there are others too. They run about 10 calories per teaspoon.
