I am exactly the same. I tried eating small amounts during the day, but no matter what, I would always cave at nighttime. To compensate, I keep my daytime eating to a minimal level, since I'll eat the same amount at night no matter what. Overall, my calories for the day will be in a reasonable range. Different people have different approaches to this phenomenon, and I'm sure you'll find what works for you.
