  • My current BMI 24.3
I want it to be near 20.
  • I don't like my BMI, cus it says I'm overweight. And I must be - but I don't feel like it's THAT bad. Oh well, aim for a BMI of 20, but right now I'm at 26!
  • Mine is 21.3. At my goal of 110 it would be 20.8. However getting to goal is beginning to seem like mission impossible, so this may be as good as it gets.
  • Quote: I'm 5'6" & 117 lbs. so my BMI is 18.9. Sounds like you are doing just fine and congrats on the fifteen lbs. gone too!
Hi fitmom, we have the same BMI and body fat percentage. I was at my goal weight very briefly last year but I was exercising 2-3 hours per day (not super hardcore, a lot was dance classes and tennis) 4-5 days per week. I don't have time for that anymore. If you don't mind my asking, how much time are you currently devoting to workouts?

You know I did notice from your stats that we are very similiar in height/weight, lol. Nice to meet you! Anyway, to answer your question: six days a week for about 30-45 minutes a day. I'm doing cardio (running), HIIT, kettlebells, Pilates and some core work. Sundays are my day off.

I'm lucky b/c I'm a stay-at-home mom and my kids aren't infants anymore. My hubby watches them in the mornings (he doesn't have a 9 to 5 job) so I can squeeze in my runs and HIIT then. In the evenings after they go to bed is when I do my kettlebells, Pilates and core work.

I'm also eating better which helps along with all the exercises as I'm sure you well know.

Wow, 2-3 hours a day. I wish I had that kind of time but not with two boys. I'm lucky I can squeeze in what little time I have.

That's what works for me. I hope this helps. Good luck.
  • Im 5'0 and 126pounds so my BMI is 24.9 just got under the 25 this week which i was happy about doesnt show as overweight anymore. Would like it to be about 20 tho i think before i will be really happy.
  • i hate BMI usually becausee it doesnt take into account, bone structure, muscle mass, fat mass, overall general health. i know mine is normal so, whatever. as long as it doesnt go under normal!
  • Quote: ...Fitmom You are sooo tiny!!! Were u small to begin with and gained due to "life" happening or was your current weight obtained by diet and exercise ( I hope that makes sense, LOL) do you have a small frame? Sorry to pry but Im always curious about people who are my height and manage to get below 130 and maintain. Always been impossible for me
I had a similar question ... ~118 lbs used to be my normal weight ... now I can't seem to get below 130/135 lbs. At least I am maintaining around 135 lbs instead of 140-something like it was a year ago! Every 5 lbs makes a HUGE difference. But it doesn't seem like losing 15-17 MORE lbs is within my reach, so I have had to accept that.

I am also very prone to "skinny fat" and high body fat %. I have been doing a lot of reading and have decided to stop focusing on the scale number and focus more on fitness, muscle tone and body fat %. Easier said than done.

My BMI at 135 lbs is 21.8. My current goal (129 lbs) would put me at 20.8.

I totally agree. It is a controversial measurement to begin with on an individual level, and once people are in the "normal" range it doesn't really yield any useful information (except maybe to indicate when someone's weight is approaching too low).

When I weighed 150 lbs, I was "normal" by BMI and "obese" by body fat %, according to the test I took at my gym.

It took me awhile to get below 125 lbs. Forever and a day, lol. I credit running with taking me over the hump. Literally the weight just fell off me, I'm not kidding. My stomach hasn't looked this toned since way before I had my first child almost a decade ago, lol. And I never thought it was possible considering the way it had been stretched out twice. I finally got on the bandwagon of no sugar or refined carbs and that helped as well. I'm not really focusing on the scale number anymore just the body fat like you. I think it's more important to be fit and healthy. Good luck.
  • Mine is 25.5... I don't really care about BMI but I am kinda excited to be out of the "overweight" category soon. My goal weight will put me at 21.
  • 24.5. This week I finally made it out of the overweight BMI.
  • bmi IS WORTHLESS

MY bmi IS 24 BARELY in the normal range.... but my BF is approx 18% because i have an incredible amount of lean muscle mass, and i wear a size 2-4........ so dont put my stock in BMI girls, really......
  • I agree with you mkroyer. My hubby's BMI is in the 'overweight category' but his doctor isn't worried b/c he's very muscular. He's short and stockily-built. My body fat is what I primarily go by as well. Although I have two sons and until they are 20 years old, the doctors go by BMI b/c kids body fat is constantly changing but adults are a different story altogether.
  • My BMI is in the healthy range again (24.5), which obviously I'm pleased about, but at my goal I should be about 21.9, which I would be more than happy with.
