A teeny tiny feather gone, my friends. Could you ever have imagined a day you'd be hoppin' happy to have lost .3 lbs???

It's the cardio, I tells ya.

Tina30 03-06-2007 01:31 PM

.3 I would take it and yep the cardio is what does it. Keep at it!

Talking myself in and out of excerising

Today it's 18 degrees before the wind chill factor in Southern New Jersey. I started talking myself out of a walk and thinking going to the grocery store and walk up and down each aisle would count as my 'daily activity'.

So I logged on here and read all the new posted since I logged on yesterday. You all gave me the inspiration to bundle up including my 'Elmer Fudd' hat to keep my ears warm (well, they were cool, but not cold or frozen). It wasn't as bad as I had imagined it would be when the wind wasn't blowing strongly.

A big thank you goes out to all of you for helping me stay on track.

Artmaker - this morning I tried the bicycle style sit-ups you recommended and could only feel them on the sides of my rib cage so I did my crunches as well.

To Everyone - what's your favorite floor exercise and what's your least?

My favorite is crunches because I can feel them.
My least is inner leg lifts when they're burning, but it's an area I need to tighten up on.

Doughnut 03-06-2007 02:43 PM

Evening all. :) Great, now I sound like a policeman. OK, I probably don't sound like a policeman unless you're English but most of you aren't so you don't know what on earth I'm on about. Neither do I - it's my sugar addled brain talking.

Thank you soooooo much to those of you who took the time and trouble to answer my distress signal and who tried to talk me out of my binge-fest. I emerged today - 4 days later- feeling like rubbish but doing it anyway. I've made myself quote 2Fru all day which goes something along the lines of even if your head's not in it you sometimes just have to do it. That's me today. 2Fru - which bit of tescos did you find the beef jerky in? I've always fancied trying it but don't know where to find it.

My only plan for today is to make it through to bed without stuffing my face. It may not sound like much of a plan but it's all can manage for today :o

:welcome2: to the newbies.

Clytemnestra 03-06-2007 03:44 PM

Frus: I have lots of great excuses (I never watch TV and our ceilings are very low) but of course you are right: yes, I could, and eventually I will find something that fits in with my life. I'm working up to it!

Hikerchick - thank you; good point about running in the heat.

Man you got me thinking I like most of them cause I know without them I would :ink: .....well i willl not go there.lol I guess my least favorite would be (forgive me I do not know the proper name) the ones where you look like a dog peeing.:o ..lol I asked for forgiveness in advance remember. If I had to pick 1 it would be oblique crunches I guess cause I am usually burning after these and they are what help to shrink my waist;)

srmb60 03-06-2007 07:58 PM

I do a bunch of things I remember from an old Buns of Steel video. If you can find one, I recommend it!

I walked this evening in the bone chilling cold. I feel very smart and accomplished!

Cats tongue 03-07-2007 12:17 AM

Hey guys.

Wow busy day. Hope everyone had a good one.

Just wanted to check in before I head to bed. I'm exhausted, with all the excercise I've done today... But it felt great, I feel strong and powerful, and that's why I LOVE exercise.

My calorie count was a little high today around 2100... Would have been 1800 right on the button, but my roommate made cup cakes, and after my soccer game tonight I was so hungry I ate one.

But at least I just had one! It didn't lead to a binge or anything, and I don't feel too full or not full enough, right now I feel just right. :)

Good luck tomorrow ladies.

2frustrated 03-07-2007 04:57 AM

Hello! My legs don't hurt as much as they did last week :( I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing! It's probably because I went kickboxing and that squeezed out all the nasy achy stuff from my sore legs!

Er.. floor exercises - I suppose jumping burpees with press-ups since it's a full body exercise! :D

Had a good exercising day yesterday, had a reasonably good eating day too, probably a little high on carbs, but not terrible. I even had a small bowl of ice cream at 10pm, but it was in a 1C bowl and I probably only had 1/4C, since I'm just trying to eat a little less. It's good enough to have a 1/4C and be satisfied. :T

Today is rest from weights, however I might go to the gym and run on the dreadmill if my gym buddy is going - she hasn't been Mon, Tues, but I have. I will go with her to show willing!

srmb60 03-07-2007 06:55 AM

Good Morning. I really feel that spring is just around the corner! I will go for another walk today.

I meant to do legs yesterday and only kinda dabbled in it. I think I'll do it up proper today. It is the most rewarding ache there is.

3fcuser1058250 03-07-2007 08:51 AM

I did legs yesterday too Susan, I thought I had done them half heartedly too but man my butt hurts good this morning :D... It is the best ache there is

I'm off in a few mins to do chest and triceps :strong: .....Later all

canadian mom 03-07-2007 09:01 AM

Got my walk in. Our tub stillisn't draining so no showers today just sponge baths. i am gonna feel yucky today. We have to go out in this cold today to get my DD braces looked at . I don't wanna............... I tried to change the appointment but htere is nothing until next month :(

Tina30 03-07-2007 09:40 AM

Just a quick hello!!! Hope everyone is doing well. Today I have to sign my daughter up for kindergarden and then off to visit for a bit with my MIL and SIL and then home to cook dinner and the gym tonight. I have not been too good with the eating the last couple of days but as of right now I am moving on and making today a good day and the rest of the week also for that matter. I will get this eating thing in check or my bathing suit is going back and in its place full body armor is going to be bought:) Well that is it for me today. Have a good one ladies!

Whittlin 03-07-2007 11:15 AM

148 today! :goodscale (Oh so grateful to reinforce "the 140s".) I'll be ready for that doctor's office scale if my clothes weigh less than 2 pounds! (but I will take off my shoes).

"It's the cardio" discussion - hmmm... ...maybe it is? I did the video walking workout Monday afternoon, now I'm down a pound.

Favorite floor exercise - the names are all so different depending upon the discipline. So I guess I'll go along with Susan B and mention videos instead - I certainly remember a lot of the moves she's probably talking about. The newest "Ladybug" T-Tapp video is probably my fave right now because it's my shiny new toy and kicks my rear. But it includes the Pilates position in which you make a thin "V" out of yourself seated on your bottom, holding calves, legs straight up and balance there. I am SO graceful at that ! NOT! Don't know if it qualifies as least favorite - least capable? ;)

hikerchick 03-07-2007 12:00 PM

Hi, I am being lazy this morning... In bed with my coffee.

Oh yes excercise. My favorite and least favorite is the squat. Its my favorite because its such a great excercise and its my least favorite because I have one weak knee and sometimes I over do and it gets all owie like. I am working on my form. I really want to get down low but when I do my knee starts talking.

Floor excercise videos. I don't own this but got out of the library a few years ago. The NY City ballet workout. You can pretend to be graceful and if no one is watching then noone will ever know. I am as gracefull as one of those beautiful ballerinas. I have to be listen to that music it is so Beee Youuu Teee fulllllll.

I have to find a copy of that again.

jenninca 03-07-2007 04:46 PM

My plans are simple since I'm just getting into the swing of things. Keep my eating under control (I have an old Richard Simmons Food Mover that I'm using) and make sure to drink at least 32 ounces of water. Yeah that's only half of what you need but I usually drink a bunch of other stuff and almost no water. So far so good.

One thing I did was buy a bag of my favorite snack food, divide it into individual serving size baggies, and made my hubby hide it from me. If I still have the calories available at the end of the day, he gets me a bag. That way I have to be accountable all day and I won't eat it all in one or two sittings!

Off to take the baby for a walk!

Cindy

clvquilts 03-07-2007 04:59 PM

It snowed this morning in Southern New Jersey. I'm hoping our dance class won't get canceled tonight - the studio owner is a snow weenie. We only had 2 inches last time and she shut down.

Today, I added leg lifts to my bicycles, crunches, and girlie push-ups. I also couldn't resist doing my Wednesday morning weigh in - I was trying to hold off till two weeks, but the scale kept calling. Of course, it didn't go down. But it didn't go up, so that's something to be happy with.

I am looking forward to a time when my husband has a job near our house and can move back from his week day apartment up near NYC. He has a great cardio machine where you slide your feet forward and back. It's not stressful on my joints.

Canadian mom - they're called 'fire hydrants' and now that I remember them, they're my LEAST favorite floor exercise.

Hikerchick - No, I don't think I'll be running or jogging any time soon. I just hate it. Plus it's really hard on my knees.

canadian mom 03-07-2007 05:06 PM

My tub is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also my dd gets her braces off on the 28th she cannot wait to have gum...lol

lpgoad 03-07-2007 07:05 PM

Hello all
well I braved the cold and walked the dog this afternoon, also on my feet most of the day at work so I feel like I got a work out. I can't do to many exercises right now due to a bad knee so I am focusing on the ones the PT gave me and walking, trying to avoid surgery. Hope everyone had a nice day!

flitter 03-07-2007 09:35 PM

Hi!

Well, I've gone to the gym twice this week, but was commuting/working from 7:30-7:00 today, so it didn't happen. I've also been eating more fruits and veggies and less junk food. My moms back with us though, and she is a chip fiend, so now the will power must kick in. :)

I lost 1 lb! But how do I move my little pig on my weight ticker. Can someone tell me or direct me to the information? Much thanks!

flitter 03-07-2007 09:39 PM

Nevermind...I figured it out! Now I have to go change the info under my name.

2frustrated 03-08-2007 04:01 AM

Hikerchick - I have the NYCB video - it's completely FAB! I love it and it used to make me sweat like a goodun' but now I use it as a "recovery" workout!

I had a lazy day yesterday, did NO workout but did tidy the kitchen big time, and I did some washing etc. Unfortunately I've just realised that I've left all my kickboxing clothes at home on the dryer :p but I may go in one of the many workout clothing items I have at work! I might not even be going since I feel like poo anyway! :barf: Not feeling particularly well, but I will soldier on!

srmb60 03-08-2007 05:48 AM

Good Morning! I'm very encouraged by the warmer weather. It's still under freezing but ... it is warmer.
I lost track of how many kilometers I walked yesterday.
I'm off to work this morning. More colonoscope preps ;)

Everyone soldier on ... spring is coming.

3fcuser1058250 03-08-2007 09:02 AM

Susan -- Colonoscope preps, oooh, lucky you....NOT!!! Have a great day anyways...

Keeping it short, I'm off to run

alinnell 03-08-2007 09:46 AM

Today, salads for lunch and dinner.
Try to stay away from the wine.

Janie Canuck 03-08-2007 10:02 AM

OK, this is my first time in the planning chat - I take it that it is just a place to touch base, and publicly proclaim our goals?

Well, I had book club last night, and fell off "my program" (if you can call it a program) a bit. Nothing drastic, and most of it was real food, not sweets, but there were also some cookies consumed. So my plan today is to just to put last night behind me and get right back on track.

Tomorrow is "picture day" - by best buddy and I have taken digital bathing suit pictures of ourselves (rather humbling) to motivate us to stay on track. They've worked very well, actually - she's lost 5 and I've lost 7. So tomorrow we take the 1-month photos, and hope we can see at least a bit of improvement.

Whittlin 03-08-2007 10:37 AM

Woo Hoo flitter on one pound down! We both lost a pound on the same day.

Welcome, Janie Canuck. Very bold move taking the photographs. You'll really appreciate them as you slim.

I got in the "beginner/rehabilitative" workout yesterday, very trickily named since it is 55 minutes of sweating. :exercise: You're supposed to work toward getting better and better on form, so the more you've done it the tougher it gets.

About editing question ??? - Wanted to thank Ilene for the exercise thread for Featherweights. Noticed Fru was able to just edit, so I did too (up to now I'd honestly believed you HAD to put a reason in the "reason-for-editing" space, as if it was frowned upon, so I've been intimidated! :o ) But edits don't bump the thread up, right? So someone will have to actuallly post to get that to happen?

hikerchick 03-08-2007 10:40 AM

Hi all,

Its my run day but dh has an early work phone call so I am patiently waiting for my turn.

clvquilts, sorry if I was sounding like a running evangeleist. I have caught the bug, but there are a million ways to skin a cat. Meow.

I have been kind of lame on my non running days but yesterday I did pretty good and walked two miles. Even with all the weight lifting I am still a little weakling and the idea of carting my daughter around in a backpack or even pushing the stroller (it has a flat) up a hill....I can't believe how much I get done and still I am lazy. I am waiting to turn into a fitness animal. I think it just takes time.

Had a great weight day yesterday. Really spent some time with the eryx site (or whatever the title is....my little brain cells fight to remember).

Made the decision to split up upper body into 2 workouts and it felt great to spend more time on fewer muscle groups. I think it will make me stronger.

Tag I'm it...off for my run.
:woops:

jenninca 03-08-2007 10:48 AM

I love the idea of the bathing suit photo! Well, I hate the idea of taking it now but I know that would be a great way to track progress. I may get hubby to take one tonight.

So far so good on the food front today. I have to go to the mall at lunchtime today so wish me luck at either ignoring the tasty stuff at the food court or finding something that won't throw me way off. I'll probably do a few laps with the stroller until the babe's nap time after I take care of what I need to take care of.

Cindy

3fcuser1058250 03-08-2007 11:24 AM

Dang it all I had a super long post and I *X*d out of the window instead of "submit reply" :dizzy:

Now I have to leave... I'm off to the gym to do some back workout, I've just come back from a 7k run, it was extremely cold but I dressed warmly and it was a very good run...

Pictures are a great idea, I did that a couple of years ago and WOW, I thought to myself "OMG people SEE that big a** walking away" :fr: ... certainly humbling to say the least...

Ok, i'm off and I will click submit reply this time ... TTFN

3fcuser1058250 03-08-2007 11:26 AM

Hicker -- Have a good run... Just came back from mine... -26c windchill, brrrrr, but I dressed with all my best and warmest winter wear and I took off for 7k...I'm such a turtle runner took me 55 mins to do that but hey, I love it anyways and I'm out there running/jogging... I don't know how long you've been at the exercise game but I've been at it for 22+ years and I still have days when I am a total slug :snail: ... It gets better with time and better when the kids get older, 'cause I don't care what anyone says, small children are draining... I remember THOSE days all too well...

Whittlin -- Yes you do have to post to bump a thread up... I post my exercises in a new post... I used to be intimidated by that "reason for editing" option  ...

:welcome: Janie There is nothing like a picture to put things into perspective... I took some a couple of years ago and OMG I thought, OMG people actually see that fat a** walking away :faint: ... Humbling to say the least ....

OMG I just found my original post  and it wasn't even that long  ... Later all gotta go...

Doughnut 03-08-2007 02:24 PM

2Fru sorry you feel like poo - maybe it's that beef jerkey you can't seem to get enough of  Hope you're doing better.

I seem to be back on plan food wise but just need to start dragging my butt through the paces. 1/2 hour here then I'm going to do just that.

3fcuser1058250 03-08-2007 02:31 PM

2Fru --- Pregnant? :bb:

srmb60 03-08-2007 03:20 PM

Oh imagine a baby frus!

Hi everybody. That was a weird aftrnoon. The surgeon got behind so I was ahead and got to watch sleeping prepped people's IV's drip for a couple of hours. Yawn!
I woulda just as soon been walking.

And Janie, yup we just talk ... I think we kinda start out planning but then we just natter on ... er ... I do anyway:)

clvquilts 03-08-2007 03:45 PM

Today, I bought my first pair of low rise jeans. I NEVER thought I'd ever own a pair. It took awhile to find a pair that fit my butt and didn't gab in the back at the 'waist line'. They're stretch demin, so if I lose more in my butt and thighs, they'll still fit. I doubt my hips are going to get any smaller.

My DH really likes them. He said I look better than when we were married 15 years ago. That was wonderful to hear since I know he really liked how I looked then.

Now, I have to get real about the little bulge above the low rise waistband and my belly button. That will keep me doing my sit-ups!

I also bought a pair of navy pants so now I have 3 pairs of pants that fit and a large storage box of pants of every size between 6-14. If anyone's 5"1" and needs some, I could ship them to you.

Next, I'm going to have to order some shorts from L.L.Bean for our vacation in Florida in 2 weeks. We're going to visit my parents for 5 days.

Dancing was fun last night. We took a lesson in Country Two Step, which I can do if I count out loud the whole time. Then it was the West Coast Swing party. Just like the last 3 Wednesday nights, there were more guys than gals so I was asked for every dance. Even though I go with my husband, I try to dance with the other guys because I learn new steps, or at least have fun laughing at myself as I trip through some of the quick turns.

Had a nice walk. Tuesday's snow is melting and the birds are singing more. There were two yellow crocuses in our yard this past weekend.

lpgoad 03-08-2007 06:44 PM

I have a question, does it list somewhere on this site the places you posted? I am asking because on the WW site you can click on your posts and it brings you to what you posted and where. I posted on this site in many different places and now I can't remember them all. Hope everyone had a lovely day, I will be weighing in tomorrow, I would keep my fingers crossed but it cramps them :):dizzy:

srmb60 03-08-2007 06:58 PM

Yes, if you click on your own user name over there <<< in the grey box, you'll get a drop down menu from which you can choose "find more posts by lpgoad"

alinnell 03-08-2007 07:21 PM

You can also subscribe to posts and you can set it up automatically when you post to a thread. Click on User CP and then click on options. A little way down the page you'll see a Messaging and Notification box with a drop down box in the subscriptions area. I think it is default set to do not subscribe. I have mine set to no email notification. Anyway, if you subscribe, then each time you check in, you click on User CP and you get a list of your subscribed threads that have had new posts in them.

Cats tongue 03-08-2007 08:45 PM

Hey all.

Wow I didn't know there were so many runners on this thread! That makes me happy. I used to be serious runner (I've done 5 half-marathons). Sadly over the past year I let my running slid. But me and my roommate have begun running. We're just building up to 5k distance for now, it's too hard to fit anything more in. I would like to get up to 10-12k once a week over the summer though.

In fact when she gets back from class we're out for a run. Ugh, I'm going to get all geared up now so that even if she really doesn't want to go (she's been feeling a little sick) I'll have to go.

Welcome Janie! I hope you enjoy it hear, as I do. It's great.

clvquilts, you take dancing lessons? Sounds fun! Swing and country dancing? My roommate loves swing dancing, at least how it looks anyway.

Okay gotta go and change. See you ladies later.

PS, for all you running enthusiats out there, I found this site runningahead.com and love it. I can track my route, make new routes, record my time and distance in km or miles, and it'll add up totals for the week and everything. Very fun.

greatchoice 03-08-2007 08:46 PM

Good evening.

Not much has been going on. Been keeping up with exercising and food has been good. Just working, sleeping and going to my son's tennis matches.

I still haven't tried a new recipe like I said I was going to! I hate to cook but hopefully I'll do that this weekend. It's funny, I hate to cook but I absolutely love cookbooks and I love to go grocery shopping. :?: :o

Hope everyone is doing well. Jane
