WeightSmasher~ Dr. Ian say to use regular slow cooking oats. The other varieties have sugar and added things that aren't allowed during detox. I eat mine raw with yogurt and a banana mixed in. I put cinnamon on top. It is like granola. Dh eats his cooked in the micro with water. He puts cinnamon on top.
We are supposed to eat plain yogurt. You can mix in a little fruit if you want. You can boil the veggies... but don't cook them to death. They should be slightly crunchy when done. I use regular brown rice. Not instant. It is supposed to have more nutritional benefit than the instant. But, it takes 45 mins to cook. Most of this info is from a combo of the book and the yahoo fat smash group which Dr. Ian is a member of. Good Luck, Sherry |

Morning Everyone!
Linda~ I saw BL last night. It was pretty intense. I couldn't believe how downright mean the teams were to the new people. They were acting so childish. That Kai and that Heather really get on my nerves! Bobby looked so good at the end of the show! It was so sweet when he went home to his family. I just cried and cried. lol. I was so happy for him. Gotta get breakfast for Joshua and I. Talk to you all later. Keep Smashing! Sherry |
I am finally back on track. I sabatoged myself for 2 days. Well, I ate on plan and then for dinner I ate light but not on phase 2. I am currently on phase 2 with 4 days of phase 1 thrown in. Its working for me. I have been at a standstill but I have upped my workouts and am doing them through out the day. I noticed the scale moved this morning.:carrot:

I had a wonderful stew last night (Phase II). I used lean stew meat, sliced onions, carrots and instead of white potatoes I used sweet potatoes. I used a slow cooker but I've made something like this before & learned you don't need to put the sweet potatoes in right away as they get too mushy. I also added tomato sauce and some water. I thought I might need to add some beef broth but I never did. I also added pepper, garlic salt, celery seed, allspice and basil (I like a "sweet" spice taste). However, I was stumped for what to add to thicken the sauce. I grabbed my oat bran and put some of that in & the sauce was perfect. It didn't taste like oats or anything weird & was a perfect consistency - better than when I use flour. I don't know if I'll ever be using white flour in the future, at least not for my family and myself. For Phase I you just need to omit the meat & add even more veggies and maybe some tofu. One of the best stews I've ever made!
I'm actually looking forward to exercising tonight. I'm back in the groove (hopefully I'll be able to stay there - no injuries). When I'm getting back into exercise I always take a day off in between to "mend." So until I get back to normal I'll be doing my aerobics every other day & then will start adding in some toning. Amanda - Welcome to this group. Hopefully you won't have too bad of withdrawals from caffeine. Ladean - My knees are just bad from age, I think. Although I do remember having a trick knee in 8th grade, so maybe that has something to do with what I'm feeling now. It hasn't been too bad the past week. Last year my feet were killing me but I started studying and investing in better shoes and what a difference it made. No more cheap shoes for me:( Payless lost a good customer. I've been trying to find low impact stuff and am intriqued by the Urban Rebounder (mini trampoline with a stablizer bar). I've read mixed reviews but most are positive. It seems like another bulky piece of equipment that does not fold up as easily as is stated. I'm still on the fence about it as one of the complaints was that it hurts your feet in the beginning, although you can wear shoes if you want. That homemade lentil soup sounds good. I love cabbage and want to make a soup with it but never thought of using it in a lentil soup. Lem - Getting my water in is difficult for me, although I personally count my decaf tea as my water intake. I do not like plain water & I don't like it with lemon or anything else besides tea. I do try and it seemed like over the summer when I got a large plain iced tea from McDonalds I'd get my water in easier and it did make a difference. WeightSmasher - I use steel cut oats but you can make them in the microwave (although you do have to use a deep bowl and stir every 30 sec. towards the end or they explode into the micro). You can use other types of oatmeal but just start reading labels to see what kind of additives there are, if any. I always check for fiber as that is what keeps me full and some of the instant versions have very little compared to regular oatmeal. But I think even quick cooking oatmeal in the can has good fiber & no additives. I've written many times I can't stand plain yogurt, even with trying to doctor it up. So I used the 40-60 calorie light yogurts & I lost 4 lbs. on detox. I steam fresh veggies (I have a steamer basket) & nuke frozen veggies. As far as brown rice, the boil in the bag I have actually has more fiber than regular brown rice. I bought a box of Minute Brown Rice the other day because it also had more fiber and no additives. Again, read the labels because they might surprise you. ChipMonster - I hope you have a great time on Phase III. I still don't think I'm going there until I reach goal. Once I start adding cookies & stuff, even if they're better choices like the South Beach Diet ones with fiber, I can see the binge mentality coming back. I want to make sweet treats a special occasion type of thing, although I know that's going to be difficult once I reach goal. I'll just have to see. Bonnie Jean - I did yoga over 30 yrs. ago & remember feeling so great on it (actually, too great - I was so at peace I could have lived in a tent)! It was called hatha yoga & was sponsored by the local park district. The teacher was amazing & she was into macrobiotic eating and everything. Anyway, I decided that being too happy wasn't normal so I stopped doing it after a while, although some of it has stuck with me all these years (esp. meditating - sometimes helpful for pain management). Anyway, I keep hearing about yoga more & more lately and am thinking I should give regular yoga another try. I'll have to check out some dvds. Julie - Your best defense in a case of jealousy is to keep going and reach goal. Don't say anything more to this woman about your loss - let her see for herself. Linda - I hate when I lose a long post! Keep cheering us on! Sherry - I've never actually watched Biggest Loser. I'll have to catch it. Crystal - Good that you're back on track. I have a feeling I'm going to have to reduce my daily calorie intake on Phase II because I don't think I've lost anything & my official weigh in day is Sat. I weighed yesterday & am the same as last Sat. Although I had one planned meal that was not on plan last Sun. I still stayed within my calorie range. That should not have affected my entire week. I'll have to up my water to see if I lose anything by Sat. |
Thanks to all the tips. I am going to start the diet (new life change in eating habits) and I am going to give it my all.
I hope I succeed. Keep up the good work everyone and thanks for the motivation...it really helps!!!!!!!!! |
Linda

That sucks Wanna be skinny chic. They are so many haters in the world that they just can leave people who are doing well alone. Yep I would be pretty POed myself. But don't worry you will have the biggest and best laugh last. You are already are because you are succeeding in your goals. I would say a few choice words about your boss but I am respecting the site and keeping it clean.
