Default Newbie Smasher Here!

Hello! I am Jess from Ohio and I am on day 1 of the Fat Smash Diet. I have never tried a true commercialized "diet" before, but I'm excited to start this one. Two years ago I lost 40 pounds by just eating healthier and working out on the treadmill. Since then, I have gained that back + 20 pounds. So I am currently at my highest weight ever, which is scary. But looking at that number now just fuels me to push forward and make sure that it will be the last time at that weight. I have a very long journey and I'm just starting, but I love the level of support on this website and I hope to find some diet buddies along the way.

I would really love to hear from fellow "Smashers" in still in the Detox stage of the program.

Good luck to everyone!

Hey Jess!

Congrats on starting. I had lost a ton of weight a couple of years back. Just was exercising and eating healthy. In 2005 I had my daughter. During the pregnancy I kicked butt and walked 2xs a day and ate very healthy. I was the same weight post pregnancy as I was prepregnancy, I was so relieved!

Unfortunately I have not done so well the last 18 months! I had put on about 35. I has been pure laziness on my behalf, I know that. I was so busy chasing my beautiful baby girl, I really neglected myself! I was not cooking my own meals, just finishing and eating whatever I made her. I never was exercising, I was tired or it was too cold to take her on a walk....I have a million excuses! Anyways, I was getting ready to go out the one day and wanted to wear my black pants, they wear soooooooo tight I could not even pull them all the way up. I started crying. All my hard work and I was allowing it to creep back up on me.

I was going to visit my parents that weekend and I promised myself when I got back, I was DONE! I was ready to get back on track! Since then (about a month and a half ago) I have been fat smashing. I am down 20 lbs and have 10 more to go for my first goal.

Good luck with smashing!! Keep us updated.

Oh and some suggestions that helped me when I do phase 1!

Frozen grapes are a great snack
If you make a yogurt/banana/berrie smoothie in the blender, save a little and put it in the freezer for "ice cream" later in the evening!
I loved to make "fried" rice by cooking a bunch of veggies in a skillet with a small amount of olive oil, then adding the rice and cooking it all together....yummy!

Good luck!

AHHH! I am back to phase 1, these holidays are tough for me. why is temtation so great? I will win this fight, I am so glad everyone is here to support each other. it is a good feeling to know we are not alone in our struggles. My husband is even starting P1 tomorrow, so we will make it a team effort. we have about 5 weeks until vacation. I have also (Because of your posts) decided to set small goals to achieve, instead of a huge one. Maybe I won't be so hard on myself if I see my sucesses in smaller batches. Good luck to all, I look forward to feeling better. I always do in P1. Remember you only have to resist temptation once in the store, if you bring it home you have to keep resisting. stay stong and healthy!!!!

Hey Jesse,
I am trying this diet for the first time too. My first day was supposed to be today. I could list all the things that went wrong, but suffice it to say I just didn't prepare very well, lol. I have everything laid out for a fresh start tomorrow and am very excited about it. I did, however, managed to get my promise of a daily walk in this morning before work. Two miles, lol. Yeah me. Anyway, would like to have fellow smasher to go through Detox with as well. Let me know if you are interested. I would wish you luck...but you can do it and luck has nothing to do with it at all, lol. Amy

Hi Jess! I hope you find great success with the FS diet.

Today is the end of day 8 of Phase I for me, and it wasn't that bad at ALL. I had a bad row of about 3 days when I didn't eat enough, which left me feeling totally exhausted. So make sure you eat enough!

The recipes listed on here helped a lot. I love fruit and brown rice so the first few days were a breeze but then I had to find ways to change the menu since it was getting boring. And preparing some of the foods in advance is definitely a good idea.

Good luck

Default Another newbie

I just found this forum as I was doing a search for Phase 2 info, because my book is at home right now, and I'm not! I'm glad I found it, tho!

I had already started an exercise plan and trying to add more veggies to my diet (I'm usually really bad about not eating my veggies) almost 3 weeks ago. I heard about the Fat Smash Diet from someone on another forum, and after doing a little research, I decided to order the book.

I'm nearing the end of Day 3 of Phase 1, and it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be! I walked by the vending machines at work today, and nothing looked good! I'm a snacker, so that was probably a first!

I'm already noticing a difference in the way I feel. I never realized how bloated I felt all the time, until I didn't feel that way anymore! I am already convinced that this was a good idea. DH is even joining in with me. His goal is to lose 30 pounds.

I only have one tip for other newbies so far: Birds Eye Steamfresh veggies!! So easy to make and very tasty (coming from someone who doesn't usually like veggies).

Good luck everyone!
Tammie

Hi Jess! I'm in phase 1 of the Fat Smash Diet - today is day 4 for me. I definitely know what it's like to lose a bunch of weight and then gain it all back. I started losing weight five years ago, when I was actually ten pounds lighter than I am now. I lost 20 pounds the healthy way and kept it off, but since I was in high school, a cheerleader, and pressed hardcore over my appearance, I starved myself for the next 3 years. Then, I stopped starving but started eating healthy, gained about 15 pounds (which was fine - I was underweight while starving) and still was able to keep it off... UNTIL I moved to Florida, got involved in a serious relationship with someone who LOVES to cook and HATES healthy food, and became extremely stressed out about life's events. I gained 50 pounds in 6 months and carried all that extra weight for over a year, but now it's the right time for me to lose it.

Do you still keep your "thin clothes"? I do... they're a big motivation for me... the hatred of having a whole closet full of clothes that I can't wear makes me reallyyyyy want to get down to my goal

I am doing FS in conjunction with the Beck Diet Solution. Today is Day 3 of FS, and I am loving it. I changed my eating habits 3 years ago, lost 60 pounds. Regained 20 when dx with MS. I am now back on track and ready to lose the rest (whatever that may be - Beck has you concentrate on 5 lb increments and I like this - achievable, reasonable, short goals). This is the time of year to move to FS. So glad I am starting now and not in the fall or winter!

How are you all doing with the brown rice? I use both Uncle Ben's 90 second long grain brown rice and frozen brown rice from Whole Foods. I am the laziest cook you will ever find, but I do manage to put a healthy, whole food/super food meal on the table every night

Talking Keep on moving!

Wow, it is really great to hear from so many of you! I am now on Day 4 and it is getting easier. I would have to say that Day 1 was the most difficult for me personally, only because I couldn't find that good mix of foods that tasted good to me. I am doing much better now and I started my workouts yesterday!

Speaking of brown rice, I found a great recipe online that makes it better. I'm not much of a cook either and the plain rice wasn't cutting it for me.
I just mixed a pack of rice with low sodium chicken broth, low sodium beef broth, some garlic and a pinch of salt. Baked in the oven for an hour and it was great. My husband HATES rice and when he walked in the house he couldn't wait to find out what smelled so darn good! He even ate some.

The other thing I'm doing is keeping a calendar of the first two phases on my fridge. That way, when I wake up each morning, I cross out the previous day as another success. It really helps if you are a visual person, like I am.

Keep the ideas coming Smashers!

Hi all, another newbie smasher here. I'm still in phase one, in day 3 of the program.

If any of you guys have a Kroger near you, they sell instant brown rice for about 1.19 a box. This has truly been a timesaver, I don't have an hour to wait for rice to cook!!

I've also been cooking my rice in low sodium chicken broth, which makes it taste great.

Good luck everyone!

Trader Joe's also sells a pre-cooked brown rice that just needs to be microwaved to reheat it. I've also been cooking up a really large pot of brown rice at the beginning of the week and it seems to keep well.

Hi Everyone!
I just joined after seeing all the support on this board.
I'm on day 3 of P1 (started on June 7th) and it's going well, but still a challenge.
I lost 22 lbs last year on the WW Core Plan, but fell off the wagon about 4-5 months into it and have gained about 12 lbs back. FS has a lot of similarities to WW Core, but I like the phased approach in FS because they subconciously give you mini goals, and if you stray a bit, you can go back to P1 to jump start again.
I need to stay focused this time and follow through...I turn 40 in October, and want to be a 'hottie' by then, or at least look and feel fit and healthy.

Here are some food tips that have helped me with FS as well as WW:
My rice cooker is a lifesaver. It cooks brown rice perfectly, and you can make a big batch and refrigerate it for a few days.
I'm not big on oatmeal...I always find it makes me hungrier, but buckwheat cereal is really good. It's gluten free and higher in protein than oatmeal.
Yams or sweet potatoes are ok in P1. A baked yam with salad is an awesome meal and very satisfying.
A great snack is apple dipped in ff plain yogurt mixed with 1 splenda and vanilla extract.
Trader Joe's has cooked lentils in the veggie section. Not sure how much sodium they have, but they taste great! And very convenient.

Stay positive and focused everyone! We can do it!
Z
