Default Question about Stirfry Recipe

Hello all!

I hope everyone is doing well on whatever Phase of Fat Smash they are on! I'm on Day 6 of Detox Phase and had a question about a recipe that I was thinking of making. It is a Vegetable Stir-fry from Cook's Illustrated Magazine. I wanted to know if the ingredients for the sauce and glaze were ok for me to have.

The sauce has 1tbsp lite soy sauce, 1 cup low-sodium/sodium free vegetable broth, 3tbsp oyster-flavored sauce, 2tsp toasted sesame oil, 1tbsp cornstarch. This would go on approx 10 cups veggies and 1lb leafy greens (pre-cooking measurements)

There is also a glaze that has 2tbsp lite soy sauce, 2tbsp sugar, 1/4c low-sodium/sodium free vegetable broth. This would go on 1lb of tofu (the tofu then gets mixed in with the veggies)

My main concern is the sugar, 2tbsp for all those veggies and tofu should be fine, right? Or no...haha... I know I am being paranoid, but I am on a mission here and I don't want to falter.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Karen, you make a good point....those amounts are so low on all those wonderfully healthy "smashing" ingredients, it is not likely to cause you a big blow up. I am far from an expert in FS, but I am sure the sugar and the corn starch are not allowed. I think what Dr. Ian is limiting (for good reason) is refined carbohydrates, sodium, and saturated fats....the question I have for you, though, as it relates to this very healthy sounding recipe is, even if those two ingredients are not allowed, in that tiny quantity, "so what"? So what? Is it going to seem like a "cheat" to you, that you have blown the whole diet, so all is lost? If it causes you and your family to enjoy a very healthy dose of vegies and tofu, so what???

Mmmm, this sounds really good. Could you post the whole recipe?

I would just omit it. Any little bit of sugar can set of cravings or other issues in some folks and with combining all the ingredients, the small amount of sugar won't affect the end results in a negative way in my opinion. True, it won't be a "glaze" without the sugar but the glaze would just slide off the tofu and mix in with the veggies anyway I wouldn't eat the cornstarch either, but that's just me (and I am not sure if cornstarch is allowed on Fat Smash anyway ).

since its only 2 TBSP you could use Splenda instead. In my experiences when using splenda you can use less and get the same sweetness. And corn starch is just a thickener so if you cut it out its really just gonna make it a thinner sauce.

Thanks for your input guys!! I just left out the glaze like you said and it still tasted great! I had the whole thing over brown rice...it was delicious. Its a copyrighted recipe, but I've heard that if you just email cook's illustrated they will let you post their recipes. So will do that later this week.
