Cool another MoT :)

Hi! I'm brand new here - this is my second post - and I'm Jewish too. Just wanted to say hi.

Pesach was roooough for me this year, but i got through it by eating lots of fruits and vegetables and drinking a lot of water. It helped that the only cafeteria doing anything KFP at my college was pareve, and I'm not a big fan of meat, so my options were limited.

For me, the decision to lose weight and the decision/drive to explore and deepen my relationship with G-d happened at the same time. So my very new, somewhat fragile understanding of faith - and the sense of holiness that i feel much more in touch with now - has been a strength for me in my weight loss quest.

Sorry to blabber on, I was just excited to see other jews on here.

I've noticed this thread doesn't move much either! I reread lots of it though and it made me think about G-d, spirituality and diet.

I am a reform Jew, observant within the Reform movement. As I have been struggling to lose weight and develop a healthy eating pattern I frequently find myself in silent prayer asking for strength to maintain the gift of a healthy body with which I was blessed...and which I have abused.

It helps.

Hi Pandora. Yes, this is one slooooow moving thread.

G-d is very much in favor of us treating our bodies well. Jewish law tells us that we should be constructive with our bodies, not destructive. Very wise words.

I'm with the Jewish Renewal Movement. It's kinda like mixing the rich folklore, symbolism, and passionate ecstatic worship of orthodoxy; with the open minded interpretations and willingness to change and welcome all peoples of Reform... and a smattering of pagan style earth based observance. I don't expect to find someone like me on here.. but if I ever did that would be awesome.

Hi - I have looked here and not seen very many postings! I just wanted to wish everyone a Shana Tova, a very good and healthy New Year.

A while back, when I first started here, I think I mentioned that I had a friend who prayed every time she wanted to eat something she shouldn't, looking for strength. At the time I thought that sounded sort of odd (and time consuming. Although maybe that was the point!).

Nowadays, as I'm still struggling but feel that I am making progress, I think I see the value in that attitude. If we really feel the spirituality of ourselves, and our closeness to Hashem, we wouldn't mistreat our bodies. Anyway, that's probably not an original thought, but on this Erev Rosh Hashana, it's what I am thinking about. I want to treat my body in a healthy way.

Again, Shana Tova!!!
