  • Hi Everyone!

Kim: Glad you are here! I've been on 3fc for about as long as you. I'm up and down the scale, currently on the way down - I can't weigh that often because I am a perfectionist and if I don't do as well as I think the number should be I've always quit in the past - I'm NOT doing that this time even if it takes only weighing once a month - it's been working for me!

Hey Gary: Wish I weighed 180! Well, maybe one day I will!

Wilma: Glad you are feeling better - we've all had weird stuff going on here. Throat stuff like yours - Mike is the only one with it now - course he's 21 and never stops - sigh - he has SO much energy!

We've been busy with the kids in school. Two in 4th grade, one in 5th grade and one in 6th grade - I'm so glad I like school and have a teaching degree. Otherwise this homework would kill me!!

Open house for the 4th graders last night and my boys were pretty excited. My 9 year old (ADHD) was running, sliding, practically running across desks - sigh - I had to get him home quick or they would have sent him to the office at 7:30 at night!

Well have a good weekend everybody!
    LORi
  • Hi LORI any progress on that treadmill yet? As always in my prayers. Open house...those were the days!!
  • Asking for prayers again. A senior boy, that my son teaches, was injured severly (it appears) in their football game last night. He was motionless for 15 minutes on the field and was ambulanced to the hospital. No details yet. His name is Scott...thank-you.
  • We will add Scott to our pray list!
  • Hi Gary,
Will definitely be praying for Scott and his family and friends.

Answering your question about the treadmill - I've messed my knee up again - will be getting on very easily in a few days. On the UPSIDE - I've lost thirteen pounds!! Finally got on the scale this a.m. I think that's in a about a month - I'm really happy!!

    Take Care everybody!
    Lori
  • Great job on the loss LORI! ~ sorry about your knee.

On a sadder note ~ My son called to tell me that the young man's family was told, as of last night, he has only a 5% chance of survival. So sad, thank you all so much for your prayers for him and his family. Miracles do happen.
  • Lori
Now I know you aren't speaking to me lol. Did you read the post where I said I am DONE. How on earth are you Loseing so much weight so fast. I want the secret. So far I have lost 18lbs in 18 weeks.
  • Gary: I am SO sorry about Scott. PRAYERS for him and his family and friends. May our Lord give them all peace.

Hey Rennie: You have SO much less to lose than I do! That makes a HUGE difference! I am over 100 pounds more than you! But this is what I've been doing. For the first time in my life I'm doing this on my own. I don't have the worry of having to weigh in somewhere once a week like WW or LAWL (done both of those) - don't have to buy anyone else's food (done that) and its just really freeing for me to count calories and decide the healthy foods for myself. I never did do well with other people telling me what to do! So I just buy as fresh as possible from God's bounty. If God made it, it has to be the best for us. If humans made it i.e. chips from His potatoes and corn, white bread instead of whole grains, and anything processed has to be much worse than whole and fresh. I stay away from frozen dinners because of the sodium and processing.

With my weight, apparently I can eat around 2300 calories a day to lose 2 pounds per week. That is really hard to do without eating junk! I've been managing around 1400 to 1500 a day and am extremely satisfied with that. When I started out I was staying around 1000 calories a day and didn't lose a thing - apparently my body thought it was starving! FAT Chance! (no pun intended)

Anyway, this is working for me - I pray everyday and night for God to help me do this. I was in the process of starting the journey for weight loss surgery and I felt God wanted me to give it one last shot this way. I truly think He'll lead me to the goal this time! After all, it was His idea!

Also I bought the book "THe Sonoma Diet" awhile back and they listed 10 or so "super foods" that I've been trying to eat most days. Things like broccoli, tomatoes, almonds, olive oil, grapes, and others I can't think of offhand right now.

I feel SO much better and happy that I actually CAN do this on my own without an organization to help me - with 7 people here, I can't afford any of the popular plans anyway. Of course I'm not doing it on my own - I'm doing it with our Father!

    Take care everyone!
    LORI

  • UP-DATE ~My son called and said that the surgery went better than expected on Scott. As of right now he is expected to survive however they are not sure of brain damage or movement at this time.

Up-DATE ~Nicole's fater, Jeff, is improving daily but becomes real frustrated and confused as his body wants to do things he remembers but his brain isn't working. His words are coming back, although not making sense, but there has been improvement.

Thank you again for the prayers. Gary
  • Again LORI ~ WOW you are on the right track now dear!

    RENNIE ~ 18 in 18! Awesome!!
  • I am eating what I make for the family more and more every week. Still am eating the lean cuisines and lean pockets about 4 times a week ( sometimes for lunch and sometimes for dinner ) for now. Having a bit of a hard time getting portion sizes where they should be. Am afraid to gain it all back, so for now they are good since I don't have to worry about the sodium.

Yes, I do want to get away from the processed foods. I don't make processed foods for the family just good old fashioned cooking, leaving out a lot of the fat.

The Alli site said I am to eat 1800 calories. While I never worry to much about calories, when I do check I am no where near that many 90% of the time. Which means I need to eat more.

    EZEMONEY
I see you all over the place. Wanted to make sure I said hello.

    Mom
You are doing so great. Yes, does make me feel good too that I am doing this, with Gods help, on my own. Hoping this way will make it easier to maintain my weight when I get to where I want to be. Has to be hard to get off one of those set plans and try to eat everyday foods.
  • Gary: Definitely will be praying for Scott and his family and will mantion him at Women's Prayer Lunch on Monday. Please keep us posted!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I hope to post here regularly, but I'll be honest, I'm a bit of a flake! Just ask the ladies on the SB Diet forum! But, I do enjoy fellowship, even online, and I love being a prayer warrior, so maybe that will motivate me to be more consistent!

DH and I had a wonderful day. I spent most of the day painting some harvest figures he cut out of ply-wood and they look adorable. Tomorrow is just church in the morning and getting the house and DH ready for him being out of town next week. Please pray for me there as I tend to become overly paranoid and don't get much sleep. That, in turn, affects my eating and working out.

Lori: Thanks for the welcome! I weigh-in every day, but that is on doc's orders. If I had it my way, I'd do it once a week or every two weeks. I'm required to eat 1700-2000 cals a day and have SO much trouble doing it. I usually hit 1400-1600, but finding those last 200 calories healthfully is hard. Doc has told me that if I'm missing 100-150 in my menu for the day to chug a regular soda, but I just can't seem to do it! I'm trying to get better, though!

Prayer vigil held for injured San Marcos football player

By: COLLEEN MENSCHING - Staff Writer

SAN MARCOS ---- A somber crowd took to the stands of the Mission Hills High School football stadium Saturday night.

Nearly 200 people joined in a prayer vigil for senior Scott "Scotty" Eveland, the 17-year-old linebacker who suffered a severe head injury Friday in a game against Santee's West Hills High School.

Eveland was rushed by ambulance Friday night from the game in San Marcos to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido where, a hospital spokesman said Saturday at 7 p.m., he remained unconscious and in critical condition after surgery.

Mission Hills Principal Brad Lichtman, who attends all the school's football games, said he saw Eveland stumble at the edge of the field a minute into the second quarter. Lichtman said Mission Hills coaches saw Eveland falter, too, and asked him to lie down.

"At this time we don't know what caused the injury," Mission Hills Principal Brad Lichtman said. "I was on the sidelines, so I saw the aftermath, but we have not yet identified a tackle or a specific contact that caused this to happen."

Saturday morning, the football team gathered as they usually do after a game, but a majority of their time was spent reflecting on Eveland and making cards and posters that were later taken to the hospital, Lichtman said.

By Saturday afternoon, the local arm of the national Moms in Touch prayer organization had arranged for a vigil on the Mission Hills field.

Bob Bishop, pastor of Valley Bible Church of San Marcos, led Eveland's friends and family in a verse of "Amazing Grace."

"My daughter is a senior with (Eveland)," Bishop said later. "They had lunch together right before the game and she sat with his girlfriend throughout the game.

"They spent all night in the hospital."

Eveland is described as an honors student with an eye for world affairs and the urge to lend a helping hand. He recently offered to tutor teammates who are struggling academically, Lichtman said.

Mission Hills is in its fourth year and, according to Lichtman, though tragedy has hit close to home, it has never before done so on a Friday night, under such bright lights and in front of so many people.

    Lichtman said he remains optimistic.

"Scotty's ... youth and his strength are tremendous assets here," he said. "They certainly are in his favor that he can heal, heal quickly."

Youth and strength may have played a part in the recovery of Vu Dang, who in 1992 suffered a brain injury in an Escondido High School football game. Dang was in a coma for six days before gaining consciousness and discovering he was partially paralyzed.

By the following spring, he was playing baseball for Escondido High, though the injury did continue to affect his life.

Modern medicine can also be a powerful player in recovery, as suggested after Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett suffered a potentially life-threatening spinal cord injury during a game earlier this month.

On the way to the hospital, Everett received "hypothermia treatment" ---- a cold saline solution injected into the veins of his arms to lower his body temperature and inhibit swelling.

Within days, doctors announced Everett could move his arms and legs again. There is speculation that the experimental hypothermia treatment is the reason why.

Eveland's immediate family, including a brother who also attends Mission Hills, has not yet spoken publically, but Lichtman said they have asked for the community's prayers.

Tony Latimore, one of Eveland's cousins from Ramona, attended the vigil Saturday. He said he was grateful to see so many members of the Mission Hills High School community supporting his family.

"Scotty's just an amazing kid," Latimore said. "He's always full of energy, kind, generous.

"We're just waiting for him to come home."
  • HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE ~ boy, this thread is sure pickin' up some speed lately; that's so very nice! We have lovely sunshine here today too; just havin' a nice restful Sunday; takin' it ez to make sure that nasty flu is really gone for good (sure hope so).

WOW ~ so many people losin' so much weight; LORI and RENNIE to both of you; those are big numbers; I can see that kind of loss on 1500 C's a day. I am finally startin' downwards again; I am increasing my activity and scavenging my plan to find 50-100 C's to remove every so often now; so it's all comin' together ...

Like many people who come here, I have tried almost every kind of diet out there; got DH to burn over a dozen books last year; I only kept a couple that had good recipes and info in them for reference. I'm doin' my own plan too (natural, whole foods, in moderation). My body just went thru a long, maintenance phase (it was just restin' after a big loss). Well, that will be good practice for down the road!

^ PRAYERS ^ have been sent up for SCOTT and continue for JEFF and JIM too; yes, these are big injuries, but we have a great big GOD who is able to perform great big miracles. "Call on me and I will show you great and mighty things" JER 33:3. So, dear FATHER, we thank you in advance, and may all the glory and honor and praise be yours ... Amen.

to KIM and COUNTING DOWN ...
WILMA ~ hope you are getting over that cold ...
OUR SUE ~ what a lovely and busy girl ...
GARY ~ you should be able to maintain with that treadmill; but watch those football game snacks!

WELL, that's all the news for now; gonna go get my tea now; take good care everyone; have a great week ~ your fellow encourager ROSEBUD ^ PRAYERS ^ goin' up as always!
