  • Hi Everyone!

Gary: I'm am praying for Scott and his family and friends throughout the day and before bed. It's unbelievable what God has enabled our doctors to do for brain damaged people nowadays. You may have heard on the national news about the high school student in our town of Columbia, IL who was strangled and left for dead by a teacher in another town she had been "involved" with. This girl was near death when the police found her 48 hours later in a ditch in a park. She was 90% covered in bug bites, and brain damaged from the near strangulation. Do you know that girl is walking (albeit with a limp, but still WALKING) and talking (a little slowly) but still TALKING now? There were many prayer vigils for her, fund raisers and much love. Our Faithful Father performed yet another miracle in Ashley and we know He can do this for Scott! May He give them all strength and peace!

Rosebud: Thanks so much for the congratulations - I KNOW I'm going to do it this time! The amount I have to lose is daunting, but I'm taking one day and one pound at a time.

    Sue: Thanks for the congratulations!

Kim: Does your doctor want you to eat a certain amount of calories so as not to go into the "starvation" mode? I LOVE regular Coke, but that's part of why I'm in the shape I'm in! I am definitely addicted to the stuff. I have to always clarify Coca Cola and not just say coke!

Have a WONDERFUL and BLESSED week everyone!
    Lori
  • , doitforme, thanks for the welcome!

    Gary: Still praying for Scott.

Justwant2Bhealthy: Thanks for the welcome! Congrats on seeing that scale go down again!

Lori: Actually, I'm on the diabetes drug Metformin to treat my PCOS. On the meds, hypoglycemic episodes are common if you don't consume enough calories in a day. I have to have some form of sugar with me all the time as the meds seem to affect me pretty strongly. My first day on the meds I passed out twice and have done so about twice a week since then. The doc's put off increasing my dosage for another two weeks to see if my body can handle it better. (I'm supposed to get to 2500 mg and am at 500 mg now.) Being on the SB Diet, I NEVER consumed more than 1300 calories. It wasn't that I was trying to stay that low, it just happened. Now, I have to consume 1700 on a non-workout day and 2000 on a workout day. It's just so hard! I'm usually fine, but some evenings I'll have to eat some wg bread with some deli meat just to get through the night. It's definitely a learning experience! I was addicted to coke, (any kind, DP, cherry pepsi, coca cola, whatever!), but being on SB, I trained myself not to drink even diet ones - now to have a doc say to drink one for extra cals seems ludicrous!

Oops, there goes the dryer! Need to put those jeans away before they wrinkle! Have a great Sunday night, everyone! God bless!

    ~Kim
  • hugs & kisses
    Thank you everyone.
I have 6 days of good choices under my belt!
I have beening praying and thanking God for all of you here.

My son just started HS football so my heart goes out to Scott and his family. Miracles do happen.

I am new here and having a little trouble keeping everyone straight.

Lori- Congrats on #13! Don't let the knee give you any excuses...It will be more difficult w/o exercise- but knowing that is half the battle.

Shy Moment- RE your portion control problem...get a digital scale with a "tare" feature. I weigh EVERYTHING in grams!! it REALLY shows me how much I can have. I weigh my my yogurt on the scale, use the tare feature to "zero the scale" and then slowly add 28 grams of Grape Nuts Cereal. Most nutrition/calorie onfo list the servings in grams- I paid almost $30- worth every penny.

    Thank you
    Cheesy
  • I will continue to keep the prayers ascending.
    Thank you for the welcome
Since joining 3FC a few weeks ago, I have been looking for a "home". This looks like a good fit. I look forward to spending time, tears, joys and prayers with you all!
    Blessings!

  • CountingDown always nice to have another person here.

You will find a lot of people here doing all kinds of things to lose weight. We are all very interested in how things are going for you. Please come back and post often.

For me it is a life change. I am not on a diet. I am changing how I look at, think about and eat food. Scales work for some people. I know I am not, for the rest of my life, going to weigh food so might as well learn how to eye ball it. Thanks for the idea. I just have to get use to ( this much ) is a serving. Something I do measure is butter, mayonnaise and things like that with a tablespoon. Kind of hard for me to be able to tell how much is what yet.

I really am doing well using a lunch plate instead of a dinner plate and a salad plate instead of a lunch plate. Holds less food and seems to be closer to what a serving size is.

Tomorrow starts my 21 day thing. Have 5 things on my list. 3 of them I am already doing but I want to make sure I am always doing them. Making good habits can't be bad. The other 2 are things I am doing but I am kicking them up a peg. I think after 4 months I now need to make things a little more organized and up the exercise a bit. Will have to see how the lungs take it. Going to go slow.

You all are always here to give me support and God is always with me to help me stay on track.
  • Hello Everyone,
Gary, Prayers are most certainly being said around the world for Scott! Please keep us update on how things are. Also lots of prayers for Jeff and Jim. Our God is an Awesome God!!

Rosebud, Sure hope you are feeling better.. That flu bug is nasty! So far I've been able to escape it.

Welcome to Kim and countingdown -- you will really like it here!

Gary you are really doing good on that treadmill.... Send some willpower This way!! Although I did clean house yesterday for 6 hours and then shampooed carpet today for another 6 and still have about half the house left to go! Darn! I should have put on a pedometer!!

Lori, You are really doing good! After supper tonight I decided to try a Weight Watchers Smart Ones Brownie A' La Mode---- Yummy!!! I don't usually have that many sweets especially after supper but it tasted pretty good. Have you tried the Diet Rite Pure Zero? I used to drink lots of Diet Pepsi but tried this and like it just as well.

Hello to everyone else that I have missed tonight and I'll ty to catch up tomorrow! Have a Great Night.
  • Hello everyone! It sure is busy around here these days. I love it! A big welcome to all who have joined recently. As you can already see you will get great support here.

I've been doing well this past week. Hopefully the scale will show the same thing! DH and I go on vacation next week and that means not eating the way you should. We do plan on doing a fair amount of walking so maybe that will offset it a bit.

Gary: Stop already! You're almost down to my weight. I guess I better get a move on! Good job.

So sad about that young boy. Our prayers are with the family.

Lori: You are doing great! Eating wholesome foods is the way to go. I gave up processed foods a couple of years ago. That's when I lost the 30 pounds and have kept most of that off. I still have something once in a while but stick to sodium reduced. I also feel so much better.

Rosebud: I'm feeling much better. DH says I'm not allowed to be sick on our holidays so I'm making sure I'm not. The weather here was incredible over the weekend. I hope to push it into Ontario so that I can enjoy it again next week.

well, gotta go to work. Have a great day!

  • Hello, everyone! Just a fly-by for me! I've been working hard all morning and used my break to run to the post office and cleaners. DH is out of town until Wed., so I hope to read more of this thread and post after work since there's no dinner to make! Well, off to lunch. Gotta take the doggage to the vet! Have a great day!
  • Hi everybody!

I just thought I'd pop in and let you know that I'm around. I do read this thread once in a while and have posted. Some of you look familiar ... that Gary guy.

Let me see ... what can I bore you with that isn't in my profile or signature? I was born into a Catholic family from Belgium. Something happened in the late 60's and we got sent to public school ... tax changes or something. Mmmm ... messed up home life ... Met DH in highschool. He unequalled yoked to me in 1979. At our about 30th Amway meeting, some fella told us to find a Bible believing church. DH said ... hey, that's where I used to go. So he was renewed and I was reborn in the mid 80's.
We have three fabulous Christian children 25, 23 and 20. Our son-in-law is a youth pastor who just got a good job! Hurray!
I think I turned out a lot better than statistics would have you believe. But then statistics seldom include Christ. Yes?

Please know that even if I don't post that I am, I do pray for you and your's.
  • I was really feeling the urge to binge on "some" food. I could not wait to get home and eat some of the great leftovers from last night!!
I was in the car and asked God for his help. When I got home, I measured out my stuff and made a vegie omelete. I was STILL feeling naughty... so I had a 100 calorie pack, wanted another... but instead I came in to the computer and read this thread.

I am starting to feel satisfied and thankful that I did not give in.

Got on the scale this morning and down to 157.4. Approx 2 & 1/2 lb loss. I won't be feeling super happy until I see 155, then 153. The lowest I've been in LONG time.

    Thanks for being here.

Hi nice to hear from you. Sometimes the wants take over the needs. Great job on not giving in to much.

Still keeping that young man along with many others in my prayers. Man can build wonderfully buildings but God can preform miracles.

    Kim
Just doesn't seem fair does it. Sometimes I think the devil likes to step in and give us a kick in the pants. Will sure keep her in my prayers .

As for the youth minister. We all know the devil and his temptations are at every turn. When we stray away from God we don't have the support we need to over come those temptations. I have to wonder when someone has been such a roll model for others, showing Gods love and teaching Gods ways if things aren't harder for them than the rest of us. When they fall by the way side maybe temptation hits them harder than the rest of us.

Will keep him in my prayers that he sees God is right there waiting for him to come back into his loving arms. Be carefull to think something is broken inside of him, we really have no idea what was going on in the relationship. Could have been both people that helped cause this to happen.
  • Hey everyone. I just received a phone call from my mom and things aren't going well. Here's the scoop:

My lil' sister just got demoted from Manager to Manager-In-Training at her store. The sad thing is that she was responsible for the entire move from a mall store to a stand-alone store and everything went super-smoothly and she had the highest income for a Family Christian store's grand opening this year. She is distraught over the demotion as she really puts all her heart into her job. She really needs the Lord's touch right now.

Also, my former youth pastor (my favorite) is leaving his wife and three sons and is apparently having an affair. My family is still close to all of them and my heart breaks for those he's leaving behind. I just pray that God heals whatever is broken inside of him to make him do this. She's being so strong for her boys, but I can't imagine how badly she's hurting right now. Plus, I feel like he was a wonderful role model for a lot of us in his youth group and it hurts to be let down. (By the way, he is no longer in the ministry and hasn't been for 3 or 4 years.)

Thanks for just reading this and I'd appreciate any prayers you can send their way.
  • Kim, I will definitely keep your family and that of your youth pastor in prayer. God works in amazing ways, and all things come together for the glory of God. Hopefully you will see some positive outcomes in both difficult and discouraging situations in the near future.

Cheesy, your post spoke to my heart. I had a working lunch today with everyone devouring the desserts on the buffet - it was incredibly hard to keep from inhaling the brownies, and cake and pie - but my prayers were answered and one of the other people at the luncheon skipped dessert too - we smiled and exchanged knowing glances as we sipped our ice water while they binged. I am so proud of you for coming here instead of indulging - WOW - a great victory for sure!

Lori (love your name I will keep you in prayer! It must be scary. When I need a few extra calories at night, I like nuts or peanut butter - those healthy fats really add up without a lot of extra bulk like bread - which puts me back in a binge mode. Just a thought - it works for me!!

Karen - awesome on the cleaning! I need to finish mine. I did the carpet cleaning thing a couple weeks ago for 4 hours and I was absolutely exhausted! I don't think I could have even come close to doing it for 6 hours - way to go!!

I will continue to keep all of you in prayer - what a wonderful and welcoming community this is.
    Blessings to all!
  • HI GALS ~

It is good to see PEOPLE here!

I had a pretty good week-end with my walking and eating. I stayed at 180, which is my second goal, all the way up to this morning. I am pretty happy about that!. Angie and I got in several walks with the mutts for 3.5 miles each time, saturday to Starbucks then a different route after church yesterday. One thing I did different was ZERO beers from thursday night, when I had 2, until now. I want to stay at 180 for at least a few days

Thank those of you that posted over on my "CHURCH" thread before it was shut down. It was very interesting to see what people thought. I was thinking the last couple of days on how to respond to some of them in a kind way, but didn't get it in in time. They probably would have shut it down after I was done anyway Amazing how many stay away from church, or so they say, because of something to do with another human being. How sad.

KIM ~Prayers for your sister. That must make her feel terrible. It is possible God has much better things in store for her but that is something the person going through the ordeal doesn't want to hear...yet. Sounds like, from where she is working, that she knows where to go for comfort. Send her from us. Prayers for the youth minister and family. One of my goddaughters married a youth pastor, he had an affair and left her too.

RENNIE ~ How is the "better choices" going today? My "chicken" dog is hiding, Angie is going through crates, taking stuff out for fall and putting it out. Any type of change "scares" her!

CHEESY ~Glad things are going better for you. What school does your boy play for? We are up here in Vista school district.

SUSANB ~Good seeing you here again! Great news for your son in law! You sound like you have a wonderful family....must be the good "mom-n'" they got!

AUNT SUE ~Way to go girl with all that walking! How many laps around the ship to make a mile? You are such a "cruiser!"

WILMA ~Just keep workin' it! The weight will come off, seriously, I have been working hard...that is why mine is coming off. I am pretty sure it will slow way down now. I really hope Techwife gets back to you and can help you out. I can't think of anyone else up that way...but I bet there is. You could always post a thread in general chatter and ask. If there are folks up there that can help, they will. People are always asking stuff like that. Good luck.

KAREN ~ There ya go! Sounds like you have a lot on your plate with your sister, dad, house, job (I read you didn't take it)...just pressures! And yes cleaning house counts! I am taking my lawn mowing calories!!

    LAUARIE ~ Come on back!

LORI ~How is the homework going tonight? Get any treadmill work in? I like the way you are going with your new way to diet.

UP-DATE ~ My son called while I was typing, he said as of this afternoon. the family said that nothing has changed, he is still critical. They are still trying to figure out what really happened, a series of hits or just one. Not that that would change anything, but answers to questions is all the family has right now. My son said the school had a lot of help for the kids today.

Have a great Tuesday ladies! Gary
